About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- KellyAP20220 contributionsClassic Inca Trail - 4D/3N - Everything I expected and MORE!I can't say enough great things about this hike! I was supposed to do this solo in 2020, and then COVID changed my plans. Before the cancellation, Big Willy introduced me to another solo traveler and we became FB friends. We kept in touch over the years and we were able to complete the hike together (along with her daughter) in June of 2024. So, the wait was long, and my expectations were high. Big Willy demonstrated quite a bit of patience with me over the years as we kept trying to reschedule. As it ended up, when we did make the trek, he was not available to go, but Victor was our guide and he was AMAZING! Victor was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Incas and he was also very patient as we were not the fastest trekkers. We took our time and enjoyed the amazing views. We laughed and maybe shed a few tears, and we were a "family" for those four days. The porters were very friendly and helpful....they clapped for us whenever we came in for lunch or tea time. They carried our belongings and set everything up for us. The food was DELICIOUS - I wish I had been hungrier at times, but I still tried everything. I watched large groups go by, and I was so happy that we had a small group. I would highly recommend Saqra's Trek and I will book with them again if I go back to Peru and hike a different route. I can't think of anything that they could do better (just would have liked to have hiked with Big Willy since I had been talking to him for five years). Do not hesitate to book with this company - you will not be disappointed.Written July 9, 2024

- hendersonm9690 contributionsShort Inca Trail a perfect alternative to Inca TrailWe opted to this as we could not get permit to hike the Inca Trail and have no regrets as all. The company was very wellorganised and took excellent care of everything. From transport to entrance, permits, food, accommodations and the guide, the company excelled. We are very happy and will surely recommend them to our friends and family back home.Written November 24, 2023

- brettc6160 contributionsUnforgettable Trek to Machu PicchuJust back from a 4D/3N Inca Trail trek with Big Willy and can't recommend it enough. He is an extremely knowledgeable guide and entertaining hiking companion. The views were beautiful and Big Willy and the porters made sure the entire trip was as comfortable as possible. Wallace was our chef and he prepared delicious meals throughout the trek, including a cake on the final day. Since Willy has done this hike 1000+ times over the past 30 years, he knows the best campsites and how to appropriately structure the hiking distances across the 4 days (unlike some of the larger trekking companies based in Cusco).Written June 6, 2023

- eliasmO3188RS0 contributionsSuper Nice PlaceDid a two day trek to Quelccaya glacier with them and this was quite an unexpected trip. We never heard of the place till we got to Cusco and sadly this is so underrated. This is a true touristic destination. We had the whole place to ourselves as it was just our tour guide and us. The place is tucked amidst a local community so it was nice to see their way of life and get an insight into it as well. The company took great care in making this a falwless and memorable trip. We highly reccommend visiting this place but be prepared for long hikes, however it was all well worth.Written April 28, 2023
- 953nelsonj0 contributionsA phenomenal tripAn off the beaten path trek to the Glaciers in southern Peru was a phenomenal trip. Willy was our guide who was extremely kind and considerate and shared so many useful information about the place, culture and traditions. Everything was taken care by them and we had a trip of a lifetime. I highly reccommend this tour if you are keen on beating the touristic crowd and immerse in an authentic trip.Written April 21, 2023
- A2622MHannem0 contributionsQuelccaya GlacierWe did the off road trip to Quelqqaya Glaciers with Big Willy as our guide, the tour was incredibly nice and the two days we spent away from the bustling touristic crowd of Cusco was certainy incredible. The glaciers are one of the newly discovered attractions and we found out that Auqui Peru are among a handful of operators who operate the tour. It was jst perfect, they took exceptional care of everything from transport and food to exceptional guide service. This is certainly an unmissable and underrated attraction in Cusco.Written February 6, 2023
- Pamela N0 contributionsImpeccable TrekAn interesting off road adventure with Big Willy. It was so nice to get a first hand insight into the life of locals living in the remote regions and are untouched by modernity. The trek was challenbging but was extremely amazing, especially the views all along the way. There are many untouched lagoons around and we also had the opportunity of visiting the hot springs twice . We were pretty much in solitude and could really feel the vibes of the mountains and enjoy the pristine nature. The tour company was very well organised and the guide was extremely patient especially as we took time during the uphill hike. Although the trek does not take you to Machu Picchu or any other historic sites, the trek is truly worth.Written January 9, 2023
- melissanH2360EJ0 contributionsRainbow Mountains are truly beautiful and unmissableA perfect full day trip to the Rainbow Mountains of Peru with Willy as our guide. The drive from Cusco was somewhat longer but the views along the way were incredible. We chose this tour just after the protests so there were seldom other travellers. The tour included both breakfast and lunch which were a good way to savour some local cuisines. The hike up the hill was somewhat difficult but extremely scenic. We had several stops slong the way to capture the sights in our camera. We also spotted plenty of Alpacas and Llmas in their natural habitat. The guide was very much considerate and patient and explained everything about the local traditions and cultutre in detail. I highly reccomend visiting Rainbow Mountain on a full day trip, it was the best way to get used to the altitude of Cusco as well before we hiked the Inca Trail.Written December 29, 2022
- S_Neill990 contributions7 Day Salkantay to Inca Trail TrekBig Willy and his crew were absolutely amazing ! 6 Days we hiked through the breath taking Peruvian landscapes, Big Willy provided so much knowledge of the earth, the sites and the general knowledge of his people. This hike was the first that my friend and I had ever done, besides small ones within Australia, and although it was challenging and not for the faint of heart. It was absolutely incredible and Big Willy would always accomodate for those who need to go a bit slower or would need to have a small rest. Big Willy even prior to the hike was always able to be contacted to ask any questions and to discuss even the minor details like dietary requirements, any little changes and/ or challenges you want to add to the trip. During the time we were hiking my friend and I shared one tent that was cool, ate food that was prepared for us by the amazing crew which was incredible and completely exceeded my expectations. As a whole I still to this day rave about the trip that was only possible with Big Willy. His knowledge has stuck with me, the laughs, the games and the jokes that were shared along the way will always remind me of the amazing trip that we had. 100% would highly recommend Big Willy and the Auqui Crew for the absolute best trip through Peru. If anyone would like more information and/or details on the trip that we did, please feel free to ask. Thank you for a trip of a lifetime Big Willy, Cheers Shenea.Written April 1, 2020
- Anathemouse0 contributions2 day trekBig Willy was our guide for our trek to Machu Picchu. He was very patient and encouraging and Im convinced we would have never been able to complete the trek if it weren’t for him. He is very passionate and loves what he does and it shows. All in all, it was a once in a lifetime experience and we’re glad we chose Willy to guide us through it!Written October 15, 2019
- 815nat0 contributionsBest Guide for SalkantayBig Willy and his crew were fantastic, they provided a great trip for us. Food was sensational, tents were cool and the knowledge from Willy unbeatable. He put our tour guide from the previous day to shame on day 1! If you want a fun, flexible knowledgeable guide with great food you can't go any further.Written September 19, 2018
