- AnnabelleNYC0 contributionsMagnificentI am not sure if this was the same tour I took from Lllas Inn where I was stayed. Absolutely fantasitc tour, they will pick you up at the hotel provide a blanket and two meals. Okay I speak very little spanish but the main guide Christian ( I hope the name is right:):) He specially translated for me in English and always helped me especially I was almost given up few times :):) He gave me an encouragement to go on so I did. He even helped me by hands . He took my photo that is the thing when you travel alone nobody would help to take my photo but yes if you asked then they will .Very friendly comfortable tour. - Katy C0 contributionsRainbow Mountain - Worth the hike!Rainbow Mountain is a must see in Peru! Never experienced anything like it. The hike is not for the faint of heart, but the views at the top were breathtaking and so worth the trek up! Anibal was an excellent tour guide and made the trip that much better! Highly recommend!Written September 26, 2024
- C9630BPsarahm0 contributionsGreat!Tour guides were great! Mountains were beautiful! It's next to a glacier which was a nice bonus. The hike is challenging but doable.Written September 26, 2024
- CemItem0 contributionsNice views, less oxygen, horrible food, and a rough long rideWe booked this one a week before we took the trip. This was not an easy hike. The terrain was OK but the oxygen level got really low as you climbed higher. The temperature also significantly dropped at the top. It got really windy. When we started to hike, it was warm and sunny with a little breeze at the base. At the, it was light snow, hard winds and cold. You can take a horse up and down. It was our second day in Cusco and we had serious altitude sickness while coming down. Also, the road to Rainbow mountain was rough. It was a 3 hour drive from Cusco. The last 1 hour to the mountain is a dirt road with a lot of holes. The agencies stop at the same place for breakfast and lunch which were the most horrible food we had during our 20 day trip in Peru. I did not even touch it. So, if you are up to see some great scenery, don’t mind the horrible food, long rough drive, challenging hike, and have an extra day, go for it.Written September 23, 2024

Part of multi day hike in Cuzco. Highly recommend Karikuy tours and Guide Gilbert.
Recommend you do this at the end of your stay in Cuzco so you get acclimatized to the elevation.
We took acetazolamide 125 mg twice a day which helped with high altitude sickness. Numbers and tingling in the face are common with this altitude.
About 2 hour drive to Cusipata (3340 m). After breakfast came steep elevation. The road is unpaved and took 1 hour to the trail head Phulawasipata (4700 m).. The hike distance is about 4 km. The First 3 km are not steep. Horses are available for 80 soles for round trip which get you through the flat part. The last part is steep about 1 km if you want to get to the summit.
The summit is about 5200 m above sea level (17,000 ft) which is slightly above the base camp of Mt. Everest. Our guide carried portable tank of oxygen. No one needed oxygen but it is common to feel the altitude effect. Drink plenty of water.
The atmospheric pressure is about half of sea level with effective oxygen at 11% compared to 21% at sea level. The wind is strong and cold at the summit. It is worth a trip and you feel accomplished after finishing the trail.
Vinicunca (mountain of colors) has been gaining popularity since 2010.
We took the same path back. If you feel adventurous there is a longer trail (2.5 hours) back to the trail head which takes you through red valley.
