We did the excursion with Bioandean Expeditions who gave us an excellent service, we had a good guide, and mobility was very comfortable, we felt very comfortable doing this tour with this company.
you have to be fit to fully enjoy it (or take a horse). The Rainbow Mountain is the most famous but the whole valley is impressive and I strongly recommend not to miss it if you like the mountains/nature and you are in adequate shape, it is a destination that you cannot miss if you come to the city of Cusco, its incredible height, its beautiful colors and its great view of the snow-capped mountains of the region, make it a place of total admiration.

This was a great tour, well worth the early wake-up. The day starts with a drive to the breakfast spot, a cozy restaurant near Rainbow Mountain, for some hearty food, fruit and tea, followed by a drive up to the start of the hiking trail through picturesque landscapes and local communities. Dress warmly with layers as the temperature ranges from quite chilly to warm once you get moving. After a short hike to see how the group does with the high elevation, there is an option to rent a horse (helpful if you are not acclimatized), however note the horse path stops close to the end of the trail, which is one of the most challenging areas due to the steep incline and high altitude. Basic toilet facilities are available along the trail every half hour or so. Ours was one of the first groups to get to the top, which was great as the area gets very busy later in the morning, which makes it tricky to get pictures, etc. Before heading down we were given the option to explore the Red Valley as well for an hour or so before heading back down. Rainbow Mountain itself was wonderful, but so were the stunning sights along the way: glaciers, colourful mountains, rivers and valleys and herds of grazing alpacas. Highly recommend!

We went to the rainbow Mountain with this local tour operator, (rainbow Mountain Cusco), They gave us a detailed information for our trip 48 hours before the trip, the tour is quite long but the guides make this trip very interesting.

The hike is quite demanding, but our guides Julian and Lizardo where always alert and ready to help, I used for a bit oxygen, Lizardo and Julian brings oxygen for emergency cases.

Or group was with only 6 people and 2 guides, then safety and confort is the first for this small local company.

Very recomendable, "Rainbow Mountain Cusco" does a great job,

the best part of this is that you support Local Tour Operators!

The best option to trek to the rainbow mountain is with Bioandean Expeditions, they are punctual with the itinerary, they care about your well-being. The guide Jaime is excellent and at all times he gave us what was necessary to make a quality tour.
They always told me that it was daring to go up there, but if you don't visit Gamarra, mountain of 7 colors and Machu Picchu you haven't been to Peru. The experience was beautiful, as well as exhausting. I better suggest going on horseback, since the walk back is more enjoyable with landscapes that came from the imagination of a single Creator. All that Andean mountain range full of clouds, streams, snow-capped mountains and vicuñas make this a beautiful experience.

I had a TERRIBLE experience and I honestly wish I'd booked this tour with another [more professional] operator.

1. I was promised a tour guide who spoke english. However, the tour guide that day [his name was Puma] spoke very little english. While he could string together english sentences in conversation, when it came to complex explanations about Rainbow Mountain, he was not able to translate in English at all. This was highly unfair for me and a few others that did not understand a word of Spanish.

2. He did not let me go all the way to the highest point, just because I was the last to get there, in the group. Now I would understand, if we were getting really really late all because of me, or if I had already spent 45 minutes at the 2nd highest point, but that was not the case. I got to the 2nd highest point, barely spent 10 minutes and this crazy hailstorm started. So obviously I wanted to wait till it ended [took about 5 minutes], to climb to the top. It was just bad timing for me. Once it cleared, and I started to make my way up, this guy gave me so much grief about being 'the last one' and how we were all getting late because of me etc etc. He took me on a total guilt trip and refused to let me hike to the top.
Obviously, it was awkward then, so then I didn't go to the top [would have barely taken me 15 min more]. When I got back to the Van, and told the rest of the group about what happened, they were really shocked and said it was ridiculous that he didn't let me go to the top.
Do you know what time we got back to Cusco? 3:00pm. And this was at a very easy pace. So clearly, we weren't getting late because literally every other tour group that left even earlier than we did, got back to Cusco, not before 4:30pm.

I flew all the way from the US, it took me 3 flights over 2 days to get to Cusco, and then a 3 hour bus ride and a 1.5 hour hike after that, to get to the base of that highest point. Imagine how frustrating it was for me that I didn't get to go to THE epic point which has the best views of this place? I don't know when I am going to get a chance to go back to Peru or do this hike again, and this was a complete waste of my money and time.

After all this pandemic that affected all of us travel lovers, I returned to Peru for a new adventure, I contacted a very good agency again (Bioandean Expeditions). I was picked up at the appointed time from my hostel and after another 30 minutes of picking up other tourists, we headed to a breakfast place and from there to the mountain.
You can walk all the way or take a horse, the horse does not take you to the top, it leaves you close, which means you have to keep walking to reach the top.
If you are lucky enough that the day is clear you will have wonderful views, this tour can also be done from another point for more than a day, I recommend that you do it with local agencies, the Bioandean Expeditions agency was a success for us

We were sceptical of the pictures we saw on the internet, but with good weather on the day of our trip, the bands of the rainbow mountain really were brightly colourful, and the view with your own two eyes were more stunning than any picture we took. Transport takes you to a parking lot around 4km from the viewing spot, but at 4800m+ the short hike could take up to 2 hours for those not used to the altitude. For experienced hikers it can take under an hour. There is one main route used for getting there and back, but some hikers go by the longer old route which takes 3 hours on the way up. The long line of picture-takers at the view point meant social distancing wasn't realistic to enforce, and many took off their masks as it made the thin air harder to bear.

Although we weren't able to see the vibrant colors the day we went. It was still worth the trip. Viewing the surroundings was simply breathtaking. We experienced so many different types of weather that day from clear but cloudy to hail, to rain to snow, all with in the two plus hours being their. Simply worth the trip.

Dear: DLLGO At this time of the year sometimes the weather is cloudy and the colors are not that vibrant, but even of that the experience of hiking over the 5000 metters over the sea level and experience the hight andes is amazing, the positive mind makes unique the trip! Thanks so much for your wonderfull review. Your Team from "Rainbow Mountain Cusco" & "Andina Expeditions" The Original Local tour operators to the rainbow Mountain since 2014.

Words simply cannot tell the truth about this beautiful creation. Everything was worth it to see this beautiful view. At first I was a little skeptical because the colors posted from others showed over saturation. Once I saw this with my own two eyes, the photos gave no justice. it's quite the hike to get here, but again its well worth the journey.

The real Rainbow Mountain is currently closed (Vinicunca). You will be visiting a different mountain called Palccoyo. The tour is still GREAT and in terms of how challenging this one is better. Vinicunca is higher above sea level and takes a lot longer to get to (walking) whereas Palccoyo is less walking and slightly lower. Don’t do this tour at least 2 days after arriving in Cusco and take the Sorochi Pills before, during and after this tour :D The food was amazing, the guide is most knowledgeable and understanding. I personally had a horrible experience with the altitude but the guides made sure my day wasnt wasted and I still managed to get to the top (and down) :) thanks a lot to the two guides, you were great!
