We did the Salkantay Trek through Bamba Experience, and what a time we had! First of all we were taken good care of by the employees at Bamba Experience before the trek.
Our Guide, Percy, was more than you would expect, he was welcoming, funny, caring and he could answer every question we may have had, not just on our trek towards Machu Picchu but also on the geological site of Machu Picchu he could give us good and detailed answers on our questions. We got to see both the amazing Andees aswell as the fascinating and interesting Machu Picchu.
If you are up for a physical challenge and wants to see nature, Peruvian culture and history you should pack your bags and get in touch with Bamba!
Amazing experience thanks to Bamba Experience and Percy!

Our trek was amazing!! Our guide, Jr., was the best ever!! He was kind, knowledgeable, and encouraging all the time! The trek was difficult and challenging but Jr. kept us motivated and informed every step of the way. My daughter (22) and I were sightseeing through Peru celebrating her graduation college...our trip ended with this trek and all the incredible things we did and saw on it...we were so lucky to have had this experience! Thank you Bamba for all you provided before, during, and after the trek!!

We had a amazing four days trek into the beautiful mountains of Peru. To guide us through the mountains we had the Inca tour guide Edwin. He was amazing, and could tell us all about the history of the incas, the animals from the jungle and about the landscape.

Amazing trip! Junior was the best guide I had so far. His knowledge, humor and kindness really made this trip. The food made by the chef was delicious. The trek was with a small group so the tour guide junior was able to adjust the trek to our wishes.

We travelled with Bamba Experience on their four-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu from Cusco and it was a very ambivalent experience all in all. While the nature, sights and trek in general is absolutely amazing, Bamba Experience was from the beginning a very unprofessional provider. Our briefing meeting was a short thirty minute talk the evening before heading out, leaving us no chance to pack accordingly for the demanding trek. We also never received a full filling itinerary, which we were promised, but was left with their standard plan.

However, the biggest complaint was by far the guide they had chosen for the assignment. While the general crew of cooks and helpers were very smiling and helpful, his behavior was unacceptable and at times directly rude. All throughout the trek, he changed the plan to suit his own needs or interests. What was supposed to be a 60 kilometers trek was subsequently changed into approximately 30-40 kilometers of quite confusing hiking and touring of the landscape.

The first day, early day hiking was replaced with a “shortcut” to get to our camp quicker. This meant that we hiked for only one hour and a half instead of the planned 3 hours. The second day, he abruptly changed our itinerary, so we could go for a very stressing and rushed trip to the Hot Springs area of Santa Teresa, before our guide decided to get drunk in the evening with his friends.

The third day, we opted not to do the Zip-Line activity clearly against our guide’s wishes, which led to a very awkward six hour trek during the day, where he didn’t at any point offer us any insights into the history, culture or wildlife of the beautiful area. More so, he walked away from us on several occasions, leaving us to make our own way to the various spots on the trek. At the end of the day, he was actually walking and chatting with other hikers along the final railway track road to Aguas Calientes, losing part of our group on the way.

Ultimately, it all ended up in a very abrupt and confusing tour of a small part of Machu Picchu, where he left us to explore the ruins ourselves, as he said, “Machu Picchu speaks for itself” before he headed off. There are no explanatory signs at the Machu Picchu so we could only guess what we were actually looking at.

Throughout the trek, his most used sentence was, “Sorry, I forgot to mention, you have to pay this and this extra”, while he only very sporadically offered any input on the area and culture of the Incas. Most often, he was just plain rude, rushed or confusing, repeatedly not showing up on time or giving wrong information about our plans.

However, the biggest complaint of this trek was by far a very dangerous “bus” ride down a mountainside from Chaullay to Santa Teresa. This two hour ride was made in an extremely old vehicle with no seatbelts, no air condition or safety measures to speak of on a very dangerous cliff side road. Bamba Experience ultimately has the responsibility for a situation like this and it is absolutely not okay that they allow this to happen. They are the ones choosing the guides and their unprofessional levels reached a new high, when our passport number showed up on the tickets for all the travelers in our group, a very serious security mistake to make, which was just brushed over by our guide.

All in all, it is important for travelers that are considering Bamba’s Cusco treks to consider what kind of trip they want to experience. If you simply want to be transported from Cusco to Machu Picchu and back, Bamba is certainly capable of it, but if you value safety, information and a considerate company, this is not the one to choose.

Dear Jeppe, First we want to thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the time you took to write such detailed review that helps us to improve our services. In the other hand we are very sad to know that you didn’t received what was scheduled, we’re deeply sorry for this and want to assure you that this is not our way of work. We have reinforced our mission and values with the guides so that they internalize the importance of ethics in everything they do, avoiding that situations like this happen again. With this in mind, we understand that this guide does not have the appropriate characteristics to be part of our team and we truly apologize for what happened. Besides this, we really hope that you have had fun on this amazing destiny, with such an abundant nature, breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable energy. Sincerely, Conceição De Camillis Bamba Happiness team

We went on this beautiful trek with the guide Nico and cook Jorge. The food was basic (we were in the middle of nowhere in the mountains), but it was native and good - made with pride and respect. The guide was perfect and provided us with good stories and lots of information about the history. He was also very caring and helpful - I was sick and he took extra care of me! All in all it was a really amazing trek. You will get beautiful views and lots of challenges in the high altitudes. This trek is a must!

Myself, 3 friends and another traveler completed the hike with the help of a very knowledgeable guide - Cesar Flores. He knew the answer to every question we asked, knew the entire history of the trail, took the time to explain native plants, and has a lot of hiking experience and most importantly, had a good laugh with us. Whole trip was well planned and everything was amazing. Photos are mind blowing, Victor, our chef, cooked up incredible 3 course meals at every stop (breakfast, lunch and dinner), Very well fed. The hike has some hard areas on day 2, mainly due to the altitude, (we only spent 2 days in Cusco coming from sea level in months prior). Don’t under estimate the altitude effects, we consider ourselves fit and it certainly rocked us. We completed the hike in first week of June, no rain, though very cold at night, layer up!

We were only two girls in the group, but that did not matter at all. We did not suffer from altitude-sickness, but we did have a lot of problems with the breathing. Our guide Niko took us very seriously every time we felt the difficulties and helped a lot to get through it. He was very patient and professional. Without him we would never have been able to complete the trek.
The trek was very hard but it was totally worth it!

The four day Salkantay Trek to Macchiu Picchu was a highly professional, well organized hike which I will surely never forget. Juan Carlos, the tour guide, provided always very interesting and detailed back-ground information and did not get tired spreading positive hiking energy. Grimaldo, our cook, provided delicious high-quality food in very good quantities. I found it very positive that there was some flexibility during the tour to change plans a little according to the needs of the participants. The hike can be partly a little challengening but one gets rewarded with an astonishing landscape, breathtaking viewes and the magic atmosphere of Macchiu Picchu. All in all I can highly recommend the Salkantay Trek with Bamba Experience and the wonderful team of JC and Grimaldo. Muchas gracias!

This was maybe one of the best things I did in my life. We walked the 4 days salkantay trek and ended our last day at Machu Picchu. Our guide percy was one of the top onces you could have. He knows the region at his best and that's why he guided us such good those 4 days. Based on the demands and feeling of the group he could change his direction. He knows also a lot about the nature where he could tell you about the plants and wildlife. Furthermore it is a very nice and fun guide to have during your trekking.
The food and service were very good during this trekking. We got 2 chef's that preparing typical Peruvian meals that were super nice! Also our bags and tent were carried by a horseman, so we only had to carry our daypacks.

If you want to experience an nice trip where you see such nice nature and have a good time, I would definitely recommend this trekking!
