        • Brief History of Machu Picchu & Advice: Machu Picchu was (relatively recently) "discovered" by American historian, Hiram Bingham, in 1911 while searching for the legendary "lost city of the Incas". Hiram Bingham and his local guides stumbled across the site which was then covered in thick vegetation which was later cleared revealing the magical mountain-top archaeological site and opening up the possibility for archaeologists to conduct research on the site by 1915. Whether arriving via Inca Trail or entering from Aguas Calientes don't miss the excellent photo opportunities from the following spots: Hut of the Caretaker of the Funerary Rock (a restored building with a thatched roof), Sacred Plaza with views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba in the distance and Rio Urubamba below. Take a short walk out to the Inca Drawbridge (30 minutes) and Inti Punku (45 - 60 minutes) for great views of the site as dawn breaks and the clouds lift over Machu Picchu.

          Exceptional Trek with Francisco
I cannot say enough positive things about our INCREDIBLE guide, Francisco, our amazing team of porters and chef. The trek itself is a bucket list item / a breathtaking experience, but Francisco really made the experience stand out as the best guided trek i have ever been on. Francisco has an encyclopedic knowledge of Incan history, Andean culture and the regional floral and fauna. He shared personal stories and an intimate knowledge of the area that he had acquired through living with his grandfather in the mountains. These extra-mile moments made the trip so special. I left the trip with a vast amount of knowledge and curiosity. Most importantly, Francisco treated the entire group with an inordinate amount of respect and care, and we were all incredibly sad to have to part ways with him as we truly consider him a friend. Francisco is a one of a kind, charismatic, force of nature and anyone would be exceptionally lucky to learn from him :) Same is true for our team of porters and chef. Despite a language barrier (and our likely embarrassing attempts at speaking Quechua, which Fransisco helped with), our entire team oozed kindness and the most positive energy. The meals were fresh, PLENTIFUL, delicious and the perfect fuel for hiking. I’ll never cease to be amazed by the sheer strength and incredible teamwork exhibited by the porters. There are plenty of companies providing a guided tour of the Inca trail, and I would suggest Bamba any day solely based on my interactions and experience with Francisco alone. That being said, I would encourage all travelers to do their research and make sure the company you’re booking with treats their guides and porters properly. We had a few experiences with the office of Bamba that left a semi- sour taste in our mouths. First, we paid for renting trekking poles when we booked. Despite having an invoice for these rentals, we ended up paying again to rent poles when we showed up at our pre-departure meeting. Additionally, one person in our group lost their poles mid-trek (completely his fault lol) and after talking with the Bamba office, it became clear that the cost of these poles ($100 USD! for very well-used poles) would have come out of our guides salary had we not dealt with the issue directly. I absolutely disagree with Bamba’s policy of penalizing their (exceptional) guides for the carelessness of tourists. All in all, I would highly recommend this trip to anyone. Francisco, if you’re reading this, we LOVE YOU and you’re the GOAT 🩷

          Hike of our Lifes
Words can't describe how amazing this trip was...The Lares Trek is incredibly beautiful, we were the only hiking group at this point, which felt really special. The route is stunning, we met a lot of very friendly local families on a huge variety of wildlife on the way. The third day we did the Inka Trail, which was much more busy, than Lares, but also super beautiful, the energy there and at Machu Picchu is incredible. The food which was freshly cooked for us by Ivan & Ruddi was sooo delicious, we really did not expect this variety and quality on a hike (thank you guys for taking such great care of us) Also thanks to Jonathan who was our driver and helped with all the setting up, he was super funny and highly professional! The communication with Bamba Travel was amazing, they answered to all of our questions very quickly. Big thanks here to Kwaneli: we rocked up at the agency in Cusco one day before the briefing and she took time to set us down and explain some things, which made us feel so comfortable and very excited for the tour. Now last, but not least to our dear guide Francisco..he has been the best Guide we ever had on any tour!! He is so pure and nice and has an incredible knowledge about the Inkas and gave us so much information about the Quechua communities, traditions, language & philosophy, which we couldn't get enough of. We could tell that he is not just doing his job, he is really speaking from his heart and wanted to share his knowledge with us. He made us all so comfortable and constantly made sure everyone is doing good. Everyone felt very safe hiking with him. He had a question to every answer We were all truly sad that we had to say goodbye and would love to do another tour with him in the future!! Tupananchiskama :)

Our guide, porters and chef made our Inca trail experience unforgetable. They took care of us at all times, and provided us everything with we needed. A special thanks to Junior for being an amazing guide, and being so good at educating us about the history! 10/10🙌🏻

          Lares and Machu Picchu experience
Once in a life time experience, Francisco made everything amazing. Had a private tour around Lares and Machu Picchu. Flawless experience, would recommend to anyone that is thinking about these experiences. You’ll regret if you don’t! The knowledge and experience that Francisco has is second to none.

As much as I’d like to gatekeep this, the 2D Inca Trail is probably the best option for most people
We had an outstanding time with our guide, Francisco. He was incredibly punctual like a Patek Philippe watch. We are in reasonably good shape and the hike was very moderate with tons of time to take pictures along the way—and whenever we looked tired, Francisco casually stopped to point out the local flora. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the area and funny—really a gem and made the door to door experience a breeze. Highly recommend this 2D tour to anyone who is going to Machu Pichu. It felt far richer than just the tour of the site itself…and without the pain of camping and hiking 4D, if that isn’t your cup of tea. You do need to be able to hike 6-8 hours carrying 2L of water and overnight clothes/electronics but it’s manageable at the moderate altitudes.

          Amazing trip
It was one of the best guided tour I have done in my life and I have done many 😀😀! Francisco is a great guide. He was very good prepared, knew a lot about the machu punch and the Inca trail, but more importantly he was also able to share this in an inspiring and captivative manner. ( and he speaks very good English) He served the different needs of the various group members ( not one size with all), making the hike for all of us what we wanted or needed. The hike and trail are beautiful, not overcrowded, with great views ( and a lot of steps 🤩) We had a great group of porters, who took care of us very well, including 3 delicious meals a day! So if you want to do the Inca trail, there is only one travel agency to go with!!

          Magical Trek to Macchu Picchu
We had such an incredible experience! What a blessing to have such an amazing guide in Francisco. His knowledge and passion were evident literally every step of the trail! Our porters were the best team and so fun to hang out with. The food was delicious and the vegetarian meals never made me feel left out. Obviously the trek itself was utter magic and the Bamba team made it an even more magical experience than we could have ever imagined!

One of, if not the best experience I have ever done!
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great experience on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Junior and John our guides, and the whole chef/porter team were honestly amazing and made the trip great from start to finish. The whole set up was so amazing considering we were hiking on mountains the whole time, from the tents, to the food it was was amazing and we were never left hungry. The daily walking was broken down into enjoyable manageable sections, breaks were taken whenever needed and we visited different Inca sights each day where Junior told us lots of interesting information. If you’re considering booking with Bamba don’t hesitate, they were very professional, safety was always considered and most importantly it was a lot of fun! Thank you to Junior, John and the whole team for making our experience so great.

          A great hiking experience
We came to hike the Inca trail and it was an amazing experience. It is a very difficult trip, but well worth it. For our trip we had Carlos as our guide. He is a fantastic guy. Polite and helpful. He has a lot of knowledge of the history and culture and his animated explanations made it more exciting. Our chef Alejandro cooked amazing meals. During the trip, while chatting with Carlos, we mentioned we just got married. On our last night they made us home-made chocolate cake to celebrate. How awesome is that, that 1) they could make a cake while camping and 2) he had the ingredients. We never mentioned our marriage when we booked the trip. The food was great and had a lot of variety. They also accommodate special needs (vegetarian, pescatarian, etc) Finally, the porters were amazing. The head porter, Jesus, runs a tight ship and everything is ready to go. Our tents are ready for us, food is timed to come out when we arrive. The trip was hard, but an amazing experience. A few tips 1) when they suggest to get the hiking poles, GET the hiking poles. Just do it. 2) most of this trip are stone "stairs". Some of these "stairs" can be 30 inches high. For sure they are absolutely, not even remotely close, to being uniform. 3) make sure to have 100% waterproof gear (goretex), altitude medicine (before you arrive to Cusco), and layers.

          Best hike ever!
Me and my friends had the absolute best time during this inka trail. We went in the rainy-season, so we were expecting quite heavy rain, but we were really lucky, only the second day it was raining, the rest it was shadow/sun. Our tour guide and the assistant guide - Junior and his brother John - was the best guides we could ever hope for. So intelligent, interessted in his job, friendly and funny. We were also lucky enough to make great friends along the way. Saynom-the head chef-made us delicious peruvian three-course lunch and dinners every day-you won’t go hungry. 11/10 experience, would recommend to everyone!

          Fantastic experience
Unforgettable experience. The highlight of our trip to Peru by far. For any nature lovers who don’t mind sleeping in a tent in the cloud forest I will most certainly recommended this trail. Great deal of knowledge and passion about Incas culture from our guide who spoke fluent English. And the food that we’ve been served 3x a day!! Wow!! That could as well be the only reason to do this trek again 😊

We booked the tour months in advance, and were slightly concerned that the price was steeper than other tours offered in Cusco. However on reflection you definitely get your moneys worth and it was the best tour that I have done in South America.

Our guide Vidal (Chino) was extremely informative, helpful and friendly and contributed to the thorough enjoyment of the trip.

On the first day we did the mountain biking first. The equipment provided and information was of a high standard and I felt extremely safe the whole time. This was followed by rafting, which was really fun and definitely worth the additional cost.

On the second day we walked for 16km through the Inca jungle as well as along parts of the Inca trail. Along the way Chino told us so much information about the Incas as well as the crops that grow there. Trying all the different fruits and drinks along the way was amazing, and they were all really tasty. It was really interesting trying fruits I had never even heard of before.

On the third day we did the zip lining in the morning. This is a really fun activity if you want an adrenaline rush! There were 6 zip lines, a suspension bridge and climbing wall. In the afternoon we then walked to aguas calientes.

On the final day we got up early to queue for the bus to macchu picchu. It is definitely worth getting up as early as possible as the queue builds up quickly. We got to macchu picchu just before it opened and were one of the first ones in when the gates opened. Macchu Picchu was incredible and the views are like nothing I have ever seen before. Whilst we were there Chino gave us an extremely interesting tour of the key sites. He was extremely knowledgable and this only added to the experience.

The food and accommodation were fantastic on the tour. The first night there are not any hot showers but all of them had really good WiFi.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Bamba and am particularly grateful to Chino as the tour would not have been the same without him. We learnt so much about the Incas and macchu picchu as well as felt incredibly safe the entire time.

We started our 4 day Inca Jungle trek on the 14th May. Our guide Vidal a.k.a Chino met us at our hotel and was perfectly on time. We’d met the previous evening and he’d told us exactly what we’d need for our 4 day Machu Picchu adventure. Day 1 was exciting and action packed going from mountain biking, a quick lunch then straight into white water rafting which was lots of fun. Our hostel that night was clean and comfortable and even had a pool. The next day we were up early and walked the whole day, with Chino our guide explaining everything we saw around us. We walked at a steady to slow pace with lots of stops along the way. The hot springs that evening were a nice way to relax. Day 3 started with zip lining, which is always fun and the company organising it were very good and we felt safe the whole time. We then started a long walk along the train track to Machu Picchu town.
Day 4 was a super early start, 3am wake up. Our guide Chino was fantastic. He got us up early which meant we were on the first bus and first through the gate. Chino then guided us to the best view point of Machu Picchu. Overall an amazing experience. Well organised with plenty of great information along the way. The hostels were perfect and the restaurant we ate at were delicious. I would definitely recommend using Bamba for the 4 day Jungle trek! Thanks Chino for looking after us!

Our guide Vidal (Chino) gave us the most incredible experience of Machu Picchu and all the fun activities leading up to the day at Machu Picchu.

We were a group of 4 girls and booked this trip before we started travelling about 3 months before. The trip seemed expensive at the time but now looking back was worth every penny.

First day biking downhill on road was great fun and we felt very safe with our guide all the way. We were provided with all the safety equipment and the bikes were in good condition. We then rafted in the afternoon which was grade II and III rapids despite increasing my insurance to grade IV which was not necessary in the end.

Second day trekking part of the Inca trail and getting to taste loads of fruit in he jungle, including mango, passion fruit, red banana!, and avocado all freshly picked from the trees! Chino was extremely informative and shared all his knowledge around the Incas and the jungle we were in.

The third day we zip lined which was amazing and one of the highlights even though I was previously not massively into zip lining.

The food was really good throughout the whole trip we ate in restaurants covered by the cost of the trip. The accommodation was immaculate, especially on the last night which also definitely makes up for the money spent.

We took our big rucksacks on the trip which we were able to pay 10 soles each to transfer them in a taxi to the next hotel. On the last day we paid 40 soles in total for 4 big bags to go by train to Aguas Calientas which saved us carrying them on the trek.

And then Machu Picchu speaks for itself - you have to go there to understand why it is as incredible as it is!!

Thank you very much to our guide for providing us with an unforgettable experience of Machu Picchu.

Really great experience with this trek. Bamba answered a lot of my initial questions and even helped confirm our couples accomodation. We arrived and greeted Junior, our guide, who walked us through the itinerary. The itinerary was a great balance of activities and relaxing. We met the rest of our tour group and set off. Beautiful sights and lovely culture. We would definitely recommend the tour to others.

Junior did any excellent job explaining/following the itinerary but allowing the collective group to decide on parameters, like times to get dinner, optional waterfall hike, taking transport or walking, etc. Junior was super knowledgeable about the culture, history, customs, etc. We felt like we were all part of this small group going through a great experience together. When I fell ill, Junior helped take me to the pharmacy and translated to relay my medical needs. Junior even helped me through with my huge fear of heights and exposure. He even drove us to our hotel when it was pouring down with hail and rain. Solid guy - thanks a bunch, Junior.

To be constructive, would recommend Bamba be a little more upfront about packing at booking or prior to flying. While Junior walked us through during our briefing, it would have been great to prepare the necessities at home, i.e. limit packing to only what you can carry, etc. Also, during rainy season, the rafting portion isn’t possible. While Junior gave us an alternative great options, would recommend Bamba note this potential during booking, as we did go into it expecting rafting. Again, really fantastic trip that we won’t forget.

We were really satisfied with the tour. It was professionally planned and Bamba made sure, we always new what the next step of our trip would be.
The guide (Junior) was very interesting and kind. We had a great time with him! He had a lot of positive surprises for us along the way, which we didn’t know was included. That was really nice.

The jungle/adventure trek is a great alternative to the classic Inca trail, if you don’t want to trek that much.
You don’t need to have a lot of experience with rafting, zip lining or mountain biking to do the trip. As long as you know how to ride a bike, you’ll be good :)

The accommodations were really nice - with WiFi.

There are a lot of mosquitoes in the jungle so be prepared. Bring lots of strong mosquito repellent

This was hands down the best tour I’ve done to date and I’ve done many in various countries. I was travelling solo and the tour size was myself and another man and we hit it off from the start.
Everything was well organised from start to finish. The activities were a good challenge so you best be up for a good sweat . The stand out thing for me was our tour guide Vicente. He was very friendly, and full of knowledge and made the whole experience better. We would stop at various plants and trees and he would explain what they were as well as have us sample them. We even had a go at trying termites if that’s your kinda thing. There were a few surprises(very welcome) thrown in that weren’t mentioned in the itinerary and I won’t say what so not to ruin it for you but all in all this was such an amazing experience and I do believe it had a lot to do with Vicente our guide as we passed others doing same kind of tour and they didn’t seem to be stopping and receiving all this information etc that we were.
All in all. The best thing I’ve done in a while.

My partner and I did the 4 day jungle adventure to Machu Picchu. The activities were all fantastic- safe and professional, good quality equipment and stunning scenery. It ended up being a private tour as we were the only ones booked which made it even better (and a much nicer experience than some other groups we saw who had booked locally and were crammed into large groups). The accommodation was a good standard considering the remote locations, and as a vegetarian I was very well catered for and had no issues (as I did finding a variety of food in other equally remote areas of the continent). Our guide Percy in particular was brilliant. All through the trip he stressed that our happiness and enjoyment was the most important thing, and made sure the pace of the trip matched how we were going. He ensured we were happy and laughing all through, and it felt far more like we were travelling with a friend who we were so sad to farewell at the end, not just a guide. I could not fault him at all and miss him! Even after we had finished the tour we were able to message him for help with something and he helped us without hesitation. I was very impressed with the Bamba Experience team in Cusco, the contents of the tour, and with our guide Percy. Absolutely the highlight of our time in South America, I would recommend this trip to everyone.

I did this tour at the end of June 2018 in a group of 3. There are loads of positives!
Firstly.. Vidal, who was our guide for the 4 days. Wow. He was so much fun, a great guy and spoke excellent English. He was knowledgable in every aspect from from start to finish and clearly very experienced in trekking this area :) Even though there were some moments where I was a bit nervous, I felt totally safe as he was always checking that we were all okay.
Originally I didn’t plan to do the zip-line/climbing at ‘VERTIKAL’ in Santa Teresa (this was optional upon booking online). Vidal reassured me I’d love it and I’m so glad he did. It was the BEST experience 👌🏼 and the company very professional.
The cycling in the beginning is a perfect introduction to ease you in. Mostly downhill while enjoying incredible views.
Machu Picchu.. Incredible to take in and obviously the main purpose of the trip, again Vidal really made it with his wealth of knowledge and also helping you get a great photo. Be assured this tour gives you so many other memories along the way.

I thought the accommodation would be more basic than what it was so I was pleasantly surprised.
My advice.. Pack light, just the basics! It sucks to lug stuff around in your backpack that you don’t need (especially when you are trekking up and around the mountains).

An action-packed and adventure-filled four days! We had a amazing time and would highly recommend this trek to adventure-seekers.

We weren’t sure if we wanted do the full trail, and when we found this tour we were really excited by the variety of activities and that it includes the comforts of a shower and a bed after each day. We are relatively fit people and didn’t have any issues doing any of the activities, but the full day hike isn’t necessarily easy.

Willy is a great guide and we would definitely recommend him.
He has a good sense of humor and kept us engaged, teaching us a lot about native plants and animals and the Incan empire. Along the route, there were little things that added to our experience because Willy is well-connected with people who live in the towns/villages (like getting fresh fruits before beginning the full day hike, or surprising us by arranging for one of the hotels to place flower petals on our bed and provide champagne since we are newlyweds). He also stopped us to point out good spots for taking pictures and took photos for us, which we might not have done ourselves, so now we have amazing pictures to remember our trip by.

Our biggest tip is to just use DEET (along with long sleeves and pants); we usually use a natural bug repellent (Burt’s bees), but the mosquitos in the jungle can only be deterred by DEET. We’d also recommend bringing along extra undergarments (socks, etc.); we packed light but there wasn’t really enough time for clothes to dry and no laundry facilities until the last night (that’s part of the adventure!). Also pack hand sanitizer and a roll of toilet paper.

        Other activity specific recommendations:
        - Rafting: use the wetsuit and shoes offered since the water is pretty cold
        - Hiking: DEET is your friend.
        - Zip lining: do the fun poses (upside down, “condor”) when they let you! Amazing views and super fun.
