Sara was a great tour guide giving us cool facts about the fauna, flora, and landmarks around us. The food we received for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was beyond our expectations, everything was prepared beautifully and was delicious. Thank you for making the experience unforgettable for us!Written September 4, 2024
- Ambassador7243090 contributionsGreat fun!We did the 2 day inka trail with my best friend. Herbert was our guide and he did an excellent job of keeping the right pace on the trail, explaining things or keeping us entertained. Also acted as our photographer 😂 We had a great time, thanks so much!Written August 17, 2024
- 896elinm0 contributionsAmazing hike to Machu PicchuJesús Vargas was our english-speaking guide on our 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with the Tierras Vivas agency. - stacieb4680 contributionsFantastic trek with amazing guide and support teamThis was an amazing experience. Can't say enough good things about Nico, our AMAZING guide, the friendly and supportive team of porters, and the talented chefs -- the food was outstanding and accomodations were very well set up/organized. Nico knew how to handle every step of the trek, and he was kind, so knowledgeable, and overall so good at what he does. Transportation and communication was also really good. The trek was challenging but completely doable and a once in a lifetime experience!Written August 15, 2024
- linnettew20240 contributionsIn good handsNico was an incredible guide and the whole team helped us to achieve our dream of hiking the Inca Trail. Nico made every day magical and his knowledge of the area was invaluable. The Inca Trail is difficult physically but the whole team cheered for us, fed us, and made sure we were safe. It was the trip and experience of a lifetime. I am grateful to Nico for his leadership and compassion.Written August 15, 2024
- R1821ITirinam0 contributionsAn awesome experienceThis was an amazing trip. Nico (our guide) did every possible and impossible to welcome us and make our experience unforgettable. The food is amazing, the views are spectacular. Professor Nico's lectures were thoughtful, fun, and remarkably engaging. We learned so much!!Written August 15, 2024
- carolinehE7084RP0 contributionsHike the Inca Trail with a gifted storytellerThe Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu was fabulous! The hiking was (good) hard, the food was amazing, the staff was so supportive— it was truly an experience to remember. If you want to go with an incredible guide—Nico is amazing. He is so knowledgeable about the sites and In an history. He also tells great stories over happy hour popcorn and hot chocolate. He met each one of us exactly where we were. The staff were great in preparations and also on the trail. I highly recommend this experience to those who are ready for a challenge and exciting adventure!Written August 14, 2024
- ashleywD6906YK0 contributionsExcellent tour!I had an excellent time on the trail! Our guide, Nico, was amazing - very knowledgeable about the history, culture, flora, and fauna on the trail. I had some health difficulties on the trail and Nico made sure I was safe, adjusted plans, and made sure I still had an excellent trip. The food on the trail was excellent thanks to our chef, Javier and his assistant, and they were able to provide vegan meals. Very thankful to the whole team!!Written August 14, 2024

- derekgT3918BF0 contributionsBest experience ever! This was the best experience I've ever had! Nico was a fantastic guide. He shared so much knowledge and adapted the trek to suit our needs. He showed so much care and attention to everyone. He even picked up garbage all along the trail. This company treats their staff so much more ethically than others we saw along the path (strict weight limits for porters). I'd recommend this company above all others.Written August 10, 2024
- Dream599884668540 contributionsImpeccable Inca trek with our childrenWe went on a 4 night/3 day Inca trek to Machu Picchu with our 2 children, 10 & 13. Our guide was Nico who met us the night before the trek to explain what would occur for the next few days and what we would need to pack etc. from the moment we met him he became part of our family - caring, funny, supportive throughout. His knowledge of all the ancient sites really bought the history of the Incas to life. Nico was suppprted by a chef and sous chef who had hot food ready for us - morning, noon and night. The food was delicious and on our last night chef Javier even cooked us a cake! Given there was no facilities other than 1 gas ring, extraordinary! We also had a number of porters who set everything set up for us at each stop - a tent for dining and at night a tent, mattress and sleeping bag all neatly ready for us, then packed up and ran ahead of us to set up for the next point. The whole trip exceeded our expectations- brilliant company and fantastic guide and team. We hadn’t heard of this company before but would have no hesitation to recommend. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it was really elevated by Nico and the team.Written August 8, 2024
- haleywX6353PI0 contributionsAmazing experience-100% recommend Reuben! The 2 day hike to Machu Picchu was amazing with Reuben as our guide! He was patient with us during the trek and allowed all of us to create the walking pace. Reuben was able to tell us so much about the history of Machu Picchu on our second day of the tour while exploring the south side of Machu Picchu. Would highly recommend Reuben for this tour or any others (the lake or rainbow mountain). If I come back to do the 4 or 10 day trek to Machu Picchu I would specifically ask for Reuben to be my guide!Written August 8, 2024

- memily220 contributionsTrip of a lifetime!Hiking the Inca Trail was the trip of a lifetime. It's one of the world's most popular trails but it far exceeded our expectations. Photos and videos do not do it justice. If you only ride the train to and from Machu Picchu, you are absolutely missing out. Tierras Vivas made the experience incredible. They promised a group of 2 - 6 and we were the only two in the group! Many other groups had significantly more people - we felt very fortunate to have a private guide. Our guide Ruben, was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. We enjoyed his company and would request him as a guide on a future trip to Peru. The porters worked extremely hard and made sure our experience was as comfortable as possible. Our cook was incredible as well - we couldn't believe how many delicious meals he was able to make out on the trail. He even made us a cake! I would absolutely recommend booking with this company. If you do, you won't regret it!Written August 7, 2024

The Salkantay trek is a stunning alternative to the traditional Inca trail. The Salkantay trek is a once in a lifetime experience with beautiful landscape, at high altitudes (Salkantay pass at 4,600m) and mind blowing scenario. We very much appreciated the Tierras Vivas support before and throughout the trek. Our guide Roger was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the trek and the history of traditions. The trek ends in Machu Picchu being beyond imagination!

Our guides Diego and Juan de dios went above and beyond in their service. In addition to them, the porter and cooks were absolutely amazing. Each day was clearly laid out, our campsites were ready when we arrived and the food was delicious (I had the vegetarian option). We truly felt as though we were a family with tierras vivas. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to go on a trek to Peru. I will most definitely be going back to them for any future bookings!

My friends and I embarked on the Five Day Salkantay Trek. It was a great experience, and we could not have done it without our amazing tour guides Juan De Dios and Diego. Our tour guides were also very knowledgable, teaching us much about the history and culture of the places we stopped by. The whole team made the trek so much easier, helping us carry our equipment, tents, sleeping bag, food, etc. The food was amazing and the price was very reasonable. I would recommend this tour group to anybody who is looking to do this trek.

The trip was planned perfectly and our guide Nico went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed ! Nico made special arrangements for us to have massages once we got to Calientes !! Nico has a vast knowledge of the terrain as well as knowledge of all the history and agriculture! He was constantly providing us with information on each area that we traveled in. The food that was prepared by Andreas was 5 star! The experience was euphoric and hope to return one day soon with more friends and family.

Just completed 5 day Salkantay to Machu Picchu trek with Tierras Vivas - (65 yo couple + 5 young adults in our group) all had a great time. Arrangements made through Pamela- communication was excellent and all logistics/transfers were a breeze. Leo was our trekking chef and meals were hearty and excellent from trout to Lomos Saltado to even a freshly baked cake. Nico was our guide and provided excellent service- he is warm, friendly and has an encyclopedic knowledge of the local flora, fauna, culture and history that he readily shares. Highly recommend this trip and these individuals. Scenery was epic and well worth the trekking effort. One note about the trail/route itself- this is not off the beaten path- it is the beaten path. At any given time you may be trekking by yourself or within sight and sound of one, two, five or thirty other trekkers. Camping is in small private campgrounds. For the first couple of days, all groups on the trail are supplied via packhorses and mules which means the trail is stoney/rocky and one frequently needs to move aside for the pack animal to pass. Fairly strenuous at parts due to trail conditions, elevation and distances but well worth all efforts.

First of all, the Salkantay Trek is a beautiful way to get to know the Andes. High mountain lakes, hanging glaciers, orchids in bloom, and lush vegetation...it was spectacular. Highly recommend the trip!
As for Tierras Vivas, we had an excellent experience with them. I cannot say enough about our guide, Yolanda, who made sure we were well taken care of every step of the way. She had an appropriate demeanor about the trek, including helping us understand the role Salkantay and the mountains played in Inka cosmology, and she was a general "fixer" for any hiccups that came up throughout the journey. The food was also very good, and our cook made sure there was enough to eat at every meal.
We had some complexities with our trek, including a side trip to Llactapata--not part of the usual itinerary--and it seemed like Yolanda had not received a lot of information from the main office regarding our trip. Tierras Vivas was able to make everything work for us, including sending more guides for the final day of our trek, and, despite what seemed like some logistical miscommunications, everything worked out excellently.
The biggest plus of Tierras Vivas, in my mind, is the small group of our trek. Whereas other operators were running groups of 20+ people, a very customizable trip was possible because we had a group of only 4! That really made the trip a memorable and personal experience--and for that I highly recommend them!
