          Awesome Trek with Rafael
We had an awesome experience with our guide rafael. Rafael organised everything very well and we had a great time together. The trek itself is quite challenging since you go 13,5KM downhill on the first day and then 6,5 KM up again. So prepare yourself for a good workout. We sent our regards from Germany, Matthias & Luca

Fun, challenging and our guide Rafael was amazing
We are so glad we did this trek, we had the most fantastic time! Without a doubt the reason our trip was such a success was due to our guide Rafael. He was brilliant, looking after all of us and was so knowledgable telling us lots stories about the history, culture, and the plants of the area. Thank you so much Rafael!! Everyone in our group was very friendly and accommodation and food were all great. The canyon is beautiful and the trek challenging but enjoyable, and we were very lucky to see lots of condors on the first day. Highly recommend this trek.

We had an excellent guide, Frank, who did an great job guiding us through the hike and had extensive knowledge about the nature and the history of the area and Peru. gorgeous views, excellent guide
I found the trek, transportation, and accomodations to be extremely well organized. Our guide, Rafael, was excellent. He did a great job giving us information about the locations we were visiting, shared local knowledge on plants and animals along the way, and made sure we were all well prepared. His energy and enthusiasm was infectious. My only suggestion for improvement would be to change the lunch location on the final day. Lunch was not included the final day, and I didn't think the buffet that we were brought to was on par with the meals we had at the other stops along the tour (which were fantastic). Some other options for lunch the final day would have been preferable.

          Amazing trip with Carlos
Did a 2 day trek with the wonderful guide Carlos. He was the perfect guide: encouraging, knowledgeable, and friendly. He set a great pace for the group. The trek was awesome, beautiful sceneries and a nice physical challenge. The food was perfect, and included good vegetarian options (omelettes instead of meat). The stay in the oasis was great, a nice pool and comfortable beds. The hot springs after the 2nd day of hiking were awesome.

The tour was very well organised. We had Rafael as our guide. He was very passionate and gave a lot of interesting information about the environment as well as the local culture. His english was also very good.

          Great hiking tour
Great tour and hike in the Colca Canyon! The first day started with an early pick up, breakfast on the way and a stop to watch the phantastical Condors. Then the hike down the canyon began, followed by a lunch until we reached our lodge for the night! The lodges are very simple, but everything you need for one night. On the second day we started early in the morning to hike up again! A great experience accompanied with a very caring guide.

Only one guide on a very large group, didn't feel like a guided trip
There was only one guide on a very large group of about 20 people, so eventually everyone kind of hiked alone and it didn’t really feel like a guided trip. For me as a slow hiker I didn’t like the fact that the guide would linger at the end of the group and rush me. The sleeping accommodation was good and I liked the fact that I got my own room as a solo traveller.

          Amazing your amazing guide!
It was an amazing (although tough) hike through some dramatic landscapes, and my guide Rafael was super knowledgeable and friendly. Super hospitable guy who’s eager to share about Peru and all of the region to us 🧡 loved his stories and energy, thanks!!!

A must do if you are in Arequipa
My husband and I had a great time doing the 3-day trek in the Cañon del Colca. Special kudos to our guide Ivan who was the kindest, most caring guide, and very patient with our slow pace on our ascent on the last day 😁 He was great company during the three days. A big thank you to our driver Jesus as well, who drove us safely to and back from the canyon. What you should expect: Day 1 You will be picked up from your hotel between 3:00 and 3:30 in the morning. Pack water and snacks in advance because you will only reach the breakfast place in Chivay at around 7:30 - 8:00 am. Wear warm layers as it is very cold in the morning, but you also need to be able to peel off layers as the day progresses because it gets quite hot when walking under the sun. I would also suggest to pack light for you comfort whilst hiking up and down the moutains, and to wear light but comfortable hiking shoes. Make sure you withdraw enough cash to buy water and snacks at the various stops, pay for the entrance to the canyon, the hot springs and to tip your guide and your driver at the end of the trip because these guys work hard and do an amazing job. After breakfast you will be driven to the start of the hike and you will start descending the canyon at around 09:00. The descent can be challenging at times because of the sun and because the slope is quite steep and it gets slippery with all the lose rocks and pebbles, but the guides will be there to ensure your safety. After walking down the mountain for 9km you will reach the first accommodation where you will have lunch, dinner, and stay for the night. The lodges are basic by western standards but comfortable enough and the hosts are lovely and very attentive. It gets very cold at night however, so make sure you have warm clothes to wear. The beds have alpaca wool blankets, so once you are under the covers it will be fine. Day 2 You will start the day at 7:00 after breakfast, and will climb to the village of Cosñirhua. The climb is very scenic and manageable. From Cosñirhua you will descend back to San Miguel. On the way down you may be able to buy water and snacks from one of the vendors who have small stalls on the way. When you arrive in San Miguel, you will be able to get your lunch and enjoy the pool of your lodge. My husband and I loved San Miguel, it is a little green paradise at the heart of the valley. The pool of our lodge was lovely, but make sure you jump in before 16:00 as after that time the sun does not hit the valley anymore and the water will get colder. The lodge in San Miguel was slightly more comfortable than the first stop, but do not freak out if you find spiders or even a little scorpion in your room: it is part of the experience 🤣 As long as you do not bother the little critters they will let you be. Day 3 We got up at 4:00 am to start our final ascent of the canyon at 4:30 am (go to bed early the night before!). The hike starts in pitch dark, so you will be more comfortable if you have a head lamp or a lamp torch. My husband and I managed with the torch on our phones however, so do not worry. Also make sure you have water and snacks as you will only be able to grab breakfast once you reach the top of the canyon. You can buy water and snacks at your accommodation in San Miguel if needed. The last hike on the third day is really quite challenging as you will climb 1.1km in altitude over a distance of 5km. If you are not a regular hiker, you will find it hard, especially considering the altitude. That being said, it is really a rewarding experience when you get to the top and see how far you have come. Our guide Ivan was great at making sure we were going at a somewhat comfortable pace and at encouraging us to keep climbing, he even sang us the Rocky song! Once everyone has made it to the top, you will walk 15-20 more minutes (on a flat area, thank God) to the breakfast spot. After that you will be driven to the hot springs which are a wonder for sore muscles. Then you will start the drive back to Arequipa and stop to have lunch, see the volcanoes and some insanely cute alpacas, lamas and vicuñas. You will reach Arequipa at around 17:00.

          Super cool experience!
The trek is REALLY hard, but what an amazing experience! Rafael was truly the best guide I’ve ever had! He was constantly positive, upbeat, and sociable. He is so passionate about his country and it shows! He constantly picked out random plants throughout the hike, explaining all of them and having us smell/ try. He is truly an incredible person and I feel so lucky that I got the chance to go on a tour with hm!

          Once in a lifetime experience!
Our adventure began in Arequipa at 3:15am with our guide, Ivan Lazo, greeting us at our hostel. After picking up the remainder of the trekkers, we began the 3.5-hour ride to Chivay where we all enjoyed a hearty breakfast. After breakfast we drove to Mirador Cruz del Condor to see the Andean Condors. The scenery was beautiful, and it was awesome seeing these huge birds gliding effortlessly in the wind currents of the canyon. Afterwards, it was a short drive to the beginning of our trek down the Colca Canyon. Our guide, Ivan, was helpful in pointing out some of the highlights of the local flora and fauna. He also ended up helping my husband make it through the very physical test of descending into the canyon. Descending into the Colca Canyon in Peru is a 6km trek down rocky, sandy switchbacks. On the other side of the canyon is a beautiful green oasis and we kept looking over there, admiring the beauty of the canyon. After 1km the trail turned from smooth, packed sand to loose rocks and loose sand. At about the 2km mark my husband slipped and fell on some loose rocks and Ivan and another hiker grabbed him before he slid into the canyon. After another kilometer or so my husband was starting to show signs of altitude sickness and was feeling exhausted. Ivan helped guide him by holding the strap on his backpack for the remaining 3km of the descent, stabilizing him and allowing him to complete the trek. Ivan was literally a lifesaver. Once we reached our destination, we were provided with a delicious dinner at the Hostel Gloria. Later that day we realized my husband would not be able to hike the 6km back up the canyon the next morning, and our guide Ivan helped arrange for a car to come the next morning at 5:30am to give us a ride out. This of course cost extra, but it was worth every penny we paid to get my husband back to where we could catch the return bus to Arequipa. Overall, the tour was amazing, with beautiful scenery and challenging terrain (if that’s your thing), and our friendly guide, Ivan Lazo, performed above and beyond to ensure we were able to complete our adventure.

Good tour, Carlos was fantastic at explaining the geological history of the canyon, and lots of information regarding the fauna and flora. The hike was a little more challenging than I expected though !
