- Julieds16050 contributionsEye opening, delicious and unique chocolate experienceWe went to Altisimo with the idea of having a snack but we ended up having an incredible experience. Their chocolate tasting is unique and eye opening on the world of cacao. The way they choose their beans and the passion they have in their work is incredible. You will never taste a chocolate bar the same way after this. The best, finest and rarest chocolates. If you pass by Cuenca it is a must place.Written August 10, 2019
- knoxfielding0 contributionsThe Rarest of ChocolateI was really impressed with Jim's passion and knowledge of Cacao in Ecuador. He not only talks about the difficulty of preserving the 2% of pure Ecuadorian cacao trees, but everyone on the tour gets a chance to sample and compare both cacao seeds and chocolate from a variety of plantations and sources in Ecuador and abroad. Lastly, I had a chance to sample some of the extraordinary wine fermented from the rare cacao beans. Willy Wonka would be proud of the work Jim and his wife put into the Chocolate Factory!Written July 27, 2019

I was having lunch at Las Cruces and I struck up a conversation with the expat American couple next to me. We were talking about Cuenca, restaurants and expat life there. I told them I was going on a tour of the chocolate factory on Gran Columbia which is just doors from my hotel. They told me it closed about two months ago. The hotel staff confirmed and I walked by and it was shuttered. I think it odd that TripAdvisor is still selling tickets.
