ZigZag Train and Ruins
Mar 2020
The Devil's Nose train was fun and the views were fantastic. Make sure your seats are on the right side (as you face the engine) of the old wooden train car. The village at the bottom was interesting, with a wood burning oven and fresh hot bread, a demonstration showing how juice was traditionally extracted from sugar cane, a small museum, and a cultural dance demonstration. The train leaves from, and returns to, Alausi, a picturesque very hilly town. On the return to Cuenca, we visited the Ingapirca ruins. Our guide seemed very knowledgeable and the ruins are fantastic. We spent about an hour there. There is a short hike immediately after leaving the ruins to see more of the parts that are not technically in the confines of Ingapirca but that is not included in the tour. If you want to do that, check in advance. Be aware, as noted in other reviews, that it is a long day of driving. Alausi is a long drive from Cuenca on winding roads. Our drive was made more exciting by the pea soup fog and rain along the way at the higher elevations. Luckily, the weather cleared for both the train and the ruins.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the tour after all. We know it's quite a drive to Alausi, but the beautiful views are worth, we also make a few stops on the way to stretch and have a snack to make it smoother. Unfortunately, you did the tour in the rainy season but I must say that in spite of that most of the time it clears and you are able to enjoy the scenery and the Inca ruins. We appreciate your review and we will work on improving our experience. Cuenca Bestours Team

Adrian was a Nice and professional guide. However, i thought the tour in general was not worth the money. The train ride was ok but it stopped at a small place for about an hour where there was nothing to do but watch some kids dance and eat so e snacks. We had a good lunch as part of the tour. We decided to skip the Ingapirca ruins as the weather was bad.

Very nice tour
Feb 2020
The ride on the train was fantastic. The scenery was amazing. Ingapirca was also great. The tour guide spoke English well and was very knowledgeable. It was also nice meeting the other travelers on the tour. It was a long day with a lot of driving, and it is recommended that you bring a heavy jacket or coat, as Ingapirca gets cold and windy.

These tours are so necessary, you will not regret it!
Dec 2019
The two tours that look so uneven, but both are history, engineering, cultures, landscapes and extreme beauty.

The tour will take all day. Distances are considered difficult, the up and down of the Andes with stunning landscapes. One of my priorities is photographic tourism.

I hired a ** private tour with the guide-driver. The travel agency sent the fabulous tour guide, Herman. He is cheerful, likes the country he was born in, has historical and cultural knowledge, is patient and a great friend. A zealous driver. A comfortable and safe car.

Anyway, I always study the places of visitation the night before, so I don't ask so much nonsense question.

Herman gave me all the detailed information for the day of the tour. In the main tourist places, he gave me historical data (train and Inca ruins) and programmed the exact lunch time and the main dishes (free choice) in a great restaurant in front of the train station.

Morning: Train and lunch;
* Herman does not accompany me on the train, as each train car has its own guide from start to finish;

Afternoon: Inca Ruins;
* Herman is my exclusive guide for the entire afternoon.

Several road stops to take pictures of the landscapes of the Andes.

** PS. Actually, the tour was not private, but as the travel agency did not get other tourists, they surprisingly did not cancel the tour with me. It became a private tour. Amazing. Thank you. I would have understood if they had canceled the tour.

We called to Cuenca Bestours one day before the tour and talked to Javier. Our booking was done in minutes. Besides we've got good advice from him how to reach Cajas Park by bus which saved us some money. Thank you,Javier.
Next day our tour guide Klever picked up us on time and we found out that it will be "private" tour since it was only two of us.
Klever is absolutely amazing tour guide with lot's of knowledge and easy and interesting communication. Thank you, Klever, and all the best from us.

Change of Plans
Oct 2019
We left for the trip and arrived to board the train. This is when we learned of the country-wide transit strike. The train portion of the trip was delayed but went on as planned. After the train, we learned that the Pan American Highway was blocked due to numerous protests. Our guide, Sebastian, kept checking Facebook and other sources and worked with us to devise a plan to return to Cuenca safely. We stayed at a hotel in Alausi and left at 4am, driving around numerous road blocks to be returned to our hotel in Cuenca at 7am. This was not a typical trip and not one that we would want to repeat due to the extreme circumstances. I must commend our tour leader/driver for getting us out of a really terrible and dangerous situation. Sebastian had nerves of steel! I cannot fault the tour operator due to civil unrest.
