Our English speaking guide and translator Wilson took us on an informative tour of Mercado 12 de Abril to acquire the ingredients. Our hostess Monserrate was very gracious and generous. She made us feel at home, taught us a lot and served us a great meal. We will be adding these recipes to our repertoire.Written January 17, 2025

- ProntoConte0 contributionsCharming personal experience!Had a delightful and informative experience walking through a local produce mercado with Wilson, a professional guide who knows his territory. We were shopping for ingredients for lunch and I learned about the many special foods native to Ecuador. We were welcomed into Monse’s home to make a local meal. She is a good home cook and I was invited to help with preparing some of the ingredients. For me the best part of travel is getting to know the people, and even better to share a meal. Thank you for a special and intimate view of a modern local family. The world becomes smaller when we find common ground!Written December 4, 2024
- ProntoConte0 contributionsGreat overview of Cuenca! As a seasoned traveler, I look for a personal experience of a destination and an overview of what’s special about a place. My afternoon with Wilson was perfect for my needs, to get to know a local who loves his city and knows it well. I was lucky to have a private tour with excellent service, good communication and flexibility. Honestly I don’t care about seeing every church, but I do appreciate getting details about why this one is special. Beautiful architecture in Cuenca. The Panama Hat factory was a highlight! Such a special place to see exquisite crafts being respected and kept alive. Hard to resist buying one of these treasures. I highly recommend this tour!Written December 4, 2024
- ProntoConte0 contributionsGood local serviceGood professional service. As a solo traveler I feel more comfortable to have hotel transfers arranged in advance when I arrive after dark in an unfamiliar city. I was relieved to see my name on a sign when I exited baggage claim. Although we didn’t speak much of the same language, the driver was helpful and welcoming.Written December 1, 2024

My husband and I really enjoyed our biking tour! From the beginning, it was a smooth process. Booking was easy and communication from start to finish was excellent. Wilson was our guide and his super friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgeable about Ecuadorian history and culture. He speaks clear English, making the experience easy for folks still learning Spanish. In fact, he also taught us some new Spanish words we used during the rest of our stay. We road around Cuenca for a couple of hours visiting historical sites, and museums, and experiencing the beauty of this amazing city. It was laid back and customized to our biking ability and preferences. Wilson also gave us recommendations for coffee, dinner, places to explore, etc and we enjoyed everyone one of them. It was such a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in exploring Cuenca in a fun and active way!!

On a sunday afternoon, we had the idea to do the bike tour in Cuenca the next day. I found a telephone number on the site and send a whatsapp message. I got an answer real quick that they would do their best to find a guide for the next morning. And a few hours later, I got a message that they actually found somebody: Wilson!
So the next day, Wilson's wife picked us up at the hotel and she took us to their home, where the bikes were. We met Wilson and he explained some things about the bikes (mostly about braking :)).
Wilson is a very friendly guide who knows a lot about Cuenca and it's history. We always love to see cities while biking through them and with Wilson sharing his knowledge, it made it even more interesting.
After the tour we went back to his home, where we were welcomed by his wife with some fruit to eat. We loved the tour!

Sebastian, our guide, had such extensive knowledge of Cuenca it made our ride so interesting. He kept us safe and the bike paths are beautiful. We even tasted local food and drink in the colonial section of town that was delicious. 5 star experience

Cycling through the city was amazing. I saw so many parts of the city you don't see on the bus tours or by foot. The guide Andres was fantastic, so knowledgeable and I felt safe on the streets at all times.

The Biking Cuenca City Tour was a real treat! Wilson was an excellent guide who provided a thorough and safety-conscious introduction followed by an enjoyable and informative biking tour around older and newer parts of the city. His knowledge of history and architecture enhanced the experience, and I highly recommend Wilson and Bestours for your city tour.

What a wonderful way to see Cuenca, Most of the trip follows the river in the lower, flatter part of the city, seeing Old Town and the new side of Cuenca as well. Our guide was very kind and patient was us, we were much slower than we should of been. A wonderful way to start the day, enjoy the water and the parks.

Today we had a very nice and easy biketour in Cuenca. The trail is flat and easy and most of the time seperate from other traffic. They picked us up at the hotel and we biked a lot in a green area near different rivers. The Guide, Clever named, spoke very good english and told a lot. We did the biking in the morning so in the afternoon there was time to look in the old city.
The mountainbikes were in good condition and helmets were included.

We loved the biking tour of Cuenca with Sebastian!!! He was very friendly, informative and spoke excellent English. We were delighted to learn that Sebastian had studied on an exchange program in Pennsylvania close to where my husband and I grew up....What a small world! It was a great way to check out the architecture, the rivers, beautiful scenery, Incan ruins, neighborhoods and more. The tour was easy to book and Cuenca Bestours was great about confirming the details of our tour in a timely manner. Highly recommend!
