The guides were absolutely amazing! So friendly and helpful and they really knew a lot! So if you're planning on doing this trip, hope that your guides are Andy Burgers (Galapagos) and Alfonso Freire (Amazon) The tried to adapt the tour to our wishes and gave us so many informations. The hotels were amazing and clean. The tours were perfect and we got to see so many animals and see the nature.

        Wow, what an adventure!
Wow, what an adventure. This trip is really very special. You really are deep in the jungle, off-grid and away from all the lodge tourists who venture no more than an hour up river. And you do truly immerse in tribal life and jungle living. We did not see any other groups whilst on this trip. We were so lucky to be the only two in the group, which made for an even more personal experience. Rustic, yes but very real and authentic. We didn’t expect a shower, so that was a bonus! Our guides Pablo Maya Betancourt, Jorge and Yate together with the wider crew were fabulous, never have we laughed so much on a trip! Our cook, Mama, prepared what was the freshest, most delicious camp food I’ve ever eaten; 3 meals a day and always 3 courses. By day we silently and stealthily trekked through the jungle hunting for wild pig, lead by Gaba the head warrior. Afternoons were spent mooching up and down the river by canoe, fishing for catfish and piranha. We lazed by the river late in the day surrounded by butterflies, whilst the locals washed, the children played and the macaws screeched overhead. At night we ventured out on night walks, Caymen spotting on the river and enjoyed a run or two, the camp fire burning to smoke-out the mozzies. We spent time with the community, which in itself was simply magical. And it's true, every day in the jungle is different!

        Definitely Take This Trip!
We just finished our Avenue of the Volcanoes trip led by Jorge, with Fernando as our driver. It was a fabulous trip that we would highly recommend. It includes some serious hiking to beautiful places followed by evenings in lovely accommodations with fabulous food and lovely people. Jorge is the best! We learned so much and had a fantastic time.

        (AAAA) Absolutely Amazing Amazon Adventure
Our trip was a “once-in-a-lifetime” Amazon experience in the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador. The Adventure Journeys team was outstanding. They picked us up from the Coca airport, and took care of absolutely everything for us during our trip. They had a team of four experts (guide and organizer - Pablo Eduardo Maya Betancourt, canoe driver and Huaorani tribe trail leader - Tiro Carlos Itomenga Apawuri, bird watcher and Amazon medicinal plant expert - Wilson Vargas Andi, and Amazon’s best chef and camp manager - Hector Cesar Mamallacta Grefa. We took numerous canoe rides to see birds and animals, multiple hikes in the Amazon where we learned about the Fauna and Flora, birds , insects, reptiles, mammals, etc. They showed us how the indigenous tribes survived in the jungle (food, medicines, hunting/blinds, shelter, etc.). We were also taken to an indigenous family where we toured their home/hut. Here we learned how they cooked, and I got to use a blow gun - super cool! Best trip ever - Mike & Vicki Larson

        10/10 trip, would recommend
Every aspect of this trip is fantastic! The itinerary is varied so that you get to see many aspects of Ecuador's natural beauty, the accomodations were all beautiful and very comfortable, the hikes were long enough to be challenging but not so long you couldn't do it again the next day. Our guide Jorge and driver Fernando were equally fantastic--friendly, fun, knowledgeable and encouraging! If/when I come back to Ecuador, I will definitely be reaching out to these guys again.

Very, very bad, the tours are expensive but the conditions are poor, no lights in the rooms where you sleep and bathe, no hot water, during my local trip in the Amazon I did not stay in the accommodation provided by the tours for three days and did not eat the meals provided by the tours for two days. The next residence and hostel had WIFI but the one we stayed in did not. Not worth the cost.

        Amazing views with great hiking
The entire tour was awesome!! There was a good mix of hiking, catering for all levels of fitness, and sightseeing. Jorge and Lobito were great as our guide and driver. The views of Quilotoa, Chimbarazo and all of Ecuador were amazing, I would highly recommend this tour regardless of age or ability.

The Perfect Blend of Nature and Adrenaline-filled Activities!
My wife and I just finished an incredible adventure together. We certainly fed our adrenaline craving on this trip. We hiked, biked, rafted, paraglided, and conyoneered both up and down waterfalls (including a 60m drop off a beautiful waterfall). The accommodations were top tier including a night in a historic hacienda (including a fireplace trimmed for us in our capacious room) and another night in a resort complex with private hot springs right outside our door. In contrast, we spent a single night in the Amazon forest that — although primitive — was an amazing cultural experience…especially when I was offered to eat a giant living grub as an after meal snack (I tried it fried :). We were also taught how to make chocolate directly from the cocoa nuts and how to make the famous Ecuadorean spicy sauce that is a ubiquitous condiment. Direct interaction with a couple indigenous communities gave us a glimpse into the inner lives of these wonderfully kind people. Despite all the news you may have heard, we never felt ‘at risk’ in the regions where we traveled. Our guide, Alfonso, deserves special recognition. He was a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge about the flora and fauna wherever we went. Always ready with a ‘safe’ recommendation for restaurants, we never had any GI issues. He ensured we traveled comfortably and safely. He was extremely flexible with our itinerary — eager to meet our needs and interests. For those wanting to brush up on your Spanish, he was a great resource. We look forward to returning to this beautiful country…next time to explore the Galapagos!

Hiking in the Avenue of the Volcanoes
We had a wonderful tour. Jorge was a great guide. He was friendly, prompt, and very experienced. We hiked in some of the more famous areas such as Cotopaxi and Chimborazo and also hiked a couple of days in the less well known mountains leading to Quilotoa crater lake. Beautiful areas. The trip was very well organized and we stayed at some amazing places. One highlight was the historic La Andaluza which is like staying in a museum. Their spa provides awesome massages too and the food is fantastic. We highly recommend this tour.

Beautiful Ecuador offers something for everyone!
An amazing country but lots of time driving required to see so much of it in only 8 days (can't include day 1 or 10). Our experience was unique in that my husband and I were "the" tour group! We benefitted from a very personalized Adventure Journeys tour with guide Alfonso Freire, about whom we can't say enough nice things: extremely knowledgeable and interesting as well as fun to spend time with! Alfonso's extensive grasp of Ecuador's history/culture/flora & fauna/geography/topography/etc. were very much appreciated! As for the tour/itinerary, I am vegan and want to complement the young chef at Liana Lodge (Tena/Amazonia) who prepared delicious meals for me. Despite prior notification through AJ, other places we stayed didn't provide enough vegan alternatives but I've learned flexibility is a must when traveling. Accommodations ranged from 5-star to 3-star, all however were clean & comfortable (upon request, we had a room with electricity in Amazonia & brought a tiny fan for relief from the heat & humidity... thank goodness!). The people of Ecuador are gracious, the scenery is beautiful and the food is delicious! It is a shame that tourism is being severely impacted by current (political/gang) events however we felt safe wherever we went, with or without Alfonso. Problems do exist but not in areas where most tourists go and people should feel encouraged to travel here!

        A Bucket List Trip
Our time in Quito and the Galapagos could not have been better! This trip was a long time dream and it was everything I hoped for and more. The accommodations were excellent, as was the food and the excursions. But by far the best was our guide, Andy. He was very knowledgeable about everything, history, birds, fish and all the wildlife. His enthusiasm was so enjoyable, even though he does these trips all the time, he was still genuinely excited every time we saw something new. He was flexible and gave us options and suggestions for meals and free time. We all wanted to bring Andy home by the end of our trip. I have already recommended this trip and company to friends and will continue to do so.

        Fantastic Journey
We had the most incredible trip with Andy as our guide. We saw so many tortoises, iguanas, sea turtles, blue footed boobies, fish, sharks, and penguins. Every excursion was well organized and so much fun. Andy took care of every detail. I highly recommend this tour company.

        Ecuador Mainland adventure
We did eight days in Mainland Ecuador with Alfonso Freire as our guide. We then went on to the Galapagos with another guide. The trip was billed as adventurous and indeed it was. From hiking to 16,000 feet at Cotopaxi to climbing an Amazon waterfall, we were stretched to our physical limits. Alfonso did a terrific job of pushing us out of our comfort zone in a skillful and respectful manner. Trips like this greatly depend on the quality of your guide and we can report Alfonso was fantastic. The State of Emergency due to a prison escape was instituted while we were there but Alfonso had our safety as his number one priority. We were pleased with the overall itinerary for 60 year olds in reasonable physical condition. This is not a trip for someone looking to relax on the beach as the daily schedule calls for physical activity and changing hotels every two days. Excellent trip in a beautiful country made even better by a high quality guide. Ask for Alfonso!

        An incredible experience
As an avid travel and adventure enthusiast I can honestly say this trip was unlike anything I’ve ever done. Our guides Wilson and Wellington were incredible. Their knowledge of the jungle was mind blowing and they were always smiling and helpful. To stay in Yusani is a chance to submerse yourself in the most raw version of nature there is. The biodiversity here can’t be captured in a picture or a review, it can only be experienced. I will be forever grateful for this trip.
