Can't think of a better way to spend a first evening in Quito than with Ernesto. The time flew by as we and just one other couple explored city views, beverages, and fantastic street food we'd just never have found on our own. As an expected bonus (and one that is truly "up my alley"), Ernesto is a knowledgeable connoisseur of street art, and he introduced us to the many local and international artists that have graced the walls of Quito. He also introduced us to the new and just emerging microdistillery scene in Ecuador and is graciously delivering a couple of bottles to our hotel so we can bring them back home with us. As an ambitious home mixologist, I usually bring a bottle or two home from trips - this is something I would not be able to source in the US, so am super appreciative. Sign up for a leisurely and friendly evening with Ernesto exploring this amazing city - you won't regret it!

This was hands-down my favorite experience during my stay in Ecuador in Galapagos. Due to the holidays, I ended up being the only one signed up for the event on my day, but rather than cancel the tour (as other guides might have done), I had the chance for a 1:1 tour of the city with Albert as my guide. Albert is incredibly knowledgeable about his city and he knows the history as well, but he was able to relay information naturally without it coming across as a stuffy old-school tour.

In terms of the tour itself, we tried the best that Quito has to offer and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of food. We went to three amazing street food / local food spots and got

We truly enjoyed our Street Food Tour. Our guide, Ernesto, picked us up from our hotel in old town and showed us a completely different neighborhood of the city. We started with drinks, walked our way down to a crowded (but for a good reason) food stand for meat on a stick, and then to some very local places including a stop where Anthony Bourdain put a stamp of approval on some of Quito's best outside markets. We were entertained with Ernestos knowlege of the city, it's history and politics, and of course, its food. We also were given restaurant suggestions so that we were well prepared for the rest of our trip. This is a 5 star tour that should not be missed.

I enjoyed trying the street foods of Quito, and was happy to have the company of my guide, who was a fun and interesting local dude. However, the $70 (plus fees) for this tour makes no sense.

The tour is billed as “Street Food and Local Drinks”. I get that COVID has many spots closed, but if that is the case the price should be adjusted. I had only two drinks: a hot cinnamon punch (delicious) and a Michelada.

The second drink was the last stop of the night, apparently at the owner’s brand new restaurant, where we almost didn’t get in because there were no tables. Not sure what would have happened if we didn’t get in...maybe I would have had only one “local drink”. After a wait, we finally were seated and I had a nice Michelada.

The most annoying part is that I ordered another beer...and later was told that I had to pay for this beer as it was not included in the tour. Mind you, the owner of this tour company owns the restaurant. Ridiculous.

For $70, I could have had a tasting menu at one of Ecuador’s finest restaurants. The street food could not have cost more than $10. I’m wondering where the rest of my fee went.

On the other hand, the restaurant looks like it had amazing food, although I didn’t try any of it. Maybe save your $70 and go to dinner there. If you have a hankering for pig butt later in the night, you can grab some down the street for like $1.50.

Hi Bradley, Thanks a lot for your feedback. We're sorry that you didn't have the perfect experience we tried to deliver. Regarding the last stop at the bar, unfortunately we had to do last minute changes since the usual spot for the last drink went out of business the day before. Our bad! The reason you were charged for the second drink is that the experience only includes two alcoholic beverages in the price, We're sorry if your guide didn't inform you correctly about what's included in the tour. We will make sure it won't happen again. Thanks for your recommendations about pricing. The main reason for our price, is the guide's fee. We truly believe in fair remuneration, and in the change it can make in our economically disparate society. The only way we can keep well prepared, educated and talented young persons as our guiding team is through recognizing their knowledge and effort with a decent salary. Again, we truly apologize for not delivering an unforgettable experience, and hope we can make it up to you soon. Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your valuable thoughts. Enjoy the rest of your trip in Ecuador. Bondabu team.

Good experience with Nico and Ernesto. They found locations which were open on Sunday’s; this is very hard to do on Sundays
in Catholic heavy Quito. Plan to bring a big appetite as there will be plenty of food and pace yourself.

My group of 6 friends did this tour (booked on Viator) yesterday. Overall we liked the tour guide Jose, he had a good personality. But due to value, food chosen, and hiccups made by him, we would not recommend this tour.

First issue is the driver came to our hotel looking for another couple. He left when the hotel reception told him “Brinn” isn’t staying at the hotel. Apparently, Brinn is another couple who booked this tour but were staying at another hotel.

By the time they figured out the mistake, we started the tour 45 minutes late. Instead of being cognizant of this, Jose started the tour with a 45 minute, long winded conversation about the center of the world.

This tour is called “Street Food with Drinks.” This is an exaggeration- we had “drink” (singular) and no street food. We went to a bar and had a local cocktail (very tasty). Went to a hole in the wall and had a tamale, chicken gizzards and an empanada. Finally, went to a cafe and had an herbal tea. Overall, it was about $60 worth of food for our group and it $462 ($77 a person). And the food was forgettable.

Maybe the pandemic has made the street food tour less than ideal. It is a fact that many places have shut down since last year. But perhaps the tour should be put on hold until the situation in Quito improves.

A wonderful way to discover the best parts of Quito and eat authentic, delicious food that only locals know about. Our guide Nico was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and knows so much about Quito food and drink culture.

The food, company, and variety of atmospheres showcases the best of what Quito has to offer. We travel for food, and would never have been able to scope out the awesome local eats that Ernesto took us to, from the obligatory ‘meat-on-a-stick’ to some of the best tamales we’ve had. Some of the food is perhaps adventurous for many, but should be right up your alley if you’re a serious foodie and willing to try new things.

Highly, highly recommended!

This is a great company offering excellent and interesting tours and the customer service from Ernesto was second to none, who was extremely attentive and caring clearly wanting to make sure everything was perfect for us.

We had booked the street food and drinks tour in Quito but have noticed they offer tours in other South American cities so i will definitely check them out next time we're travelling there.
