- Coastal5423440 contributionsEcuador TreasureWe’ve recently returned from a fantastic adventure exploring Ecuador; We couldn’t have done it without the uniquely personal itinerary put together for us by Angie of ‘Ecuador Treasure’. Her knowledge and support allowed us to visit many wonderful areas and sights including the Galapagos islands and the Amazon jungle. We really appreciated that all the accommodation and travel was organised for us and tours were adapted to incorporate our interests, in particular, nature and wild life. The private tours were comfortable and guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We wouldn’t hesitate recommending ‘Ecuador Treasure’ to anybody that wanted to make the most of this beautiful country.Written September 6, 2022
- roberto2244220 contributionsNature and adventureWe had the trips to Cotopaxi volcano, Quilotoa lagoon and Baňos. All of them were perffect - the guides, places we visited and food also perfect. We can fully recommend!! The acommodation was in Chuquiragua Lodge and it was one of the best we had in Ecuador.Written July 28, 2022
- dragonphoe180 contributionsQuito day tour - ask for Carlos!Susy and Angie from Ecuador Treasure were marvelous and managed to sort out an issue at the hotel when they could not find our room reservation. We don't speak Spanish but we hooked onto WIFI and WhatsApp and they spoke directly to hotel reception to resolve. Next day we went on a tour of Quito with Carlos and it turned out to be a private tour since it was just the 2 of us in our group. We had an early start to get ahead of the crowds and we went to visit Pululahua Crater first. Unfortunately it was totally in the mist so we couldn't see the view! But it was good to see the humingbirds and also the indigenous people wandering down into the crater where they live. Next stop to visit Mitad del Mundo, the monument dedicated to where the Equatorial line was calculated to be by the French (who knew?!), followed by the a very fun, educational and interesting visit 'next door' to the Museo de Sitio Intinan. Last stop was to visit the Old City of Quito and its fabulous architecture. Carlos was fabulous and guided us around the buildings and plazas. The tour included lunch and he also showed us where to buy some coffee and chocolate (at our request). Last he took us to visit the local arts and crafts market where we could buy some souvenirs and gifts at better prices than those shops at Mitad del Mundo, which are numerous and all sell the same stuff. It turned out Carlos was our driver the next morning to drop us at the airport. He parked and stayed with us and that was a godsend as there was such a long queue to get the Ingala for the Galapagos (due to the local holiday) and we would have probably missed the flight if he hadn't called in a favour and got us to the front of the check-in queue. If you go on a tour in Quito - ask for Carlos from Ecuador Treasure, he is a top man!Written March 12, 2020
- 751zud0 contributionsChallenging but fun day! This was a really cool day trip and I am so glad I decided to do it. I wanted something active and challenging, and I got it. The trip to the National Park was about 2 hours from Quito. The van was comfortable, however once we reached the park, the roads got bumpy and curvy, so just expect it. The weather was sunny and clear, but when we reached the parking lot on the volcano and began hiking, it started raining/hailing and the winds were super strong. It made the climb to the refuge very challenging. Some travel groups even decided not to hike due to the weather. But our group went for it and we made it through. Just make sure you dress appropriately, hiking boots, hiking clothes, have gloves, rain jacket, sunglasses etc. The path is mostly loose dirt and rocks, which makes it harder to climb. I felt like I was sliding a lot. I made it to the refuge and decided not to go any further, mostly due to the weather and also the altitude. 16000 feet is the highest I have ever climbed to. At the refuge you can get a hot cup of cocoa or coca tea. The mountain biking part was super fun, even the weather cooperated more after we began descending. I took it slow as the path has rocks and gravel. I stopped along the way many times just to soak in the view of Cotopaxi behind me. I've never done anything like this before, so it was a great experience. The meals (breakfast and lunch included) were delicious and the restaurant was very nice and clean. The day was long and I was definitely spent by the end of it, but I would recommend this day trip to anyone who's looking for a challenge but fun. Our guide (I think it was Victor), was engaging with the group and he was knowledgeable. All the activities are optional on this tour, so if you're not feeling the hike or biking, you can stay in the van.Written January 23, 2020
- Margit26800 contributionsGreat 1 day trip to Cotopaxi+ Enjoyable 1 day trip to Cotopaxi + We used the mountain bikes for downhill which was fun (it’s optional, so if you don’t feel like, you can take the car) + Victor is a very friendly and experienced guide, great attitude and focus on safety and team + breakfast and lunch was included (delicious!) and a nice way to get to know other people in the groupWritten November 22, 2019
- jujujujubauch0 contributionsAmazing and informative tour! This company is so passionate about their country. It was impressive and made me excited. Cotopaxi hike was difficult, but I’m pleased I did it, and I’m so happy Ecuador Treasure led the way. They are very very friendly and happy to answer any questions. They are extremely helpful with any and everything. They made me feel safe, too. Breakfast and lunch were served, and wow, they were both delicious. The bus transporting us was comfortable, and the bike ride down was a little scary at first, but then it turned out fun! Cotopaxi is one incredible place! Thank you so much to this extraordinary company for the tour!Written November 18, 2019
- Lucy_in_Toronto0 contributionsExcellent tour guides!Tour guides were excellent, especially during the challenging Cotopaxi climb. As a solo traveller I also really enjoyed that the guides took photos and shared them on WhatsApp. Ecuador is beautiful and the people are so friendly, it's hard to go wrong! Other info that may be helpful Cotopaxi: there is a place up top to get your passport stamped! You have to ask at the refuge camp. The climb is on loose rock /dirt up and down. You can do it but it will be tricky. The bike ride down is not the entire way, probably 30 min mostly downhill on dirt roads but if you aren't a good biker be careful. Someone on my tour fell (but the bus took her on so she wasn't stranded). It's a long day and lunch is pretty late. The group was mixed with those doing day trip and 2 day. Most people seemed to be on the day tour and left. Food/Overnight: spend the night at Chuquiragua Lodge, same place we had breakfast and lunch which were tasty. The lodge is pretty nice. Unless you upgrade for a private room you are in a large dorm. There is access to a thermal tub but it took a really long time to warm up (over an hour) so not as relaxing as hoped. No towels or amenities included (but you can rent a towel for $1) Quilotoa: we don't spend that much time there. But first We stopped at a market then visited a local family to learn more about the indigenous people. We were encouraged to buy gifts/donations (e.g. food) as they are very poor. The walk down took about 25 min but the walk up was over an hour! If your in better shape you can probably do that faster. But that leaves limited time to do the optional kayak at the bottom (I didn't do it). We had lunch at a spot nearby then stopped very quickly at for a photo op and lookout point at the Toachi River Canyon before the long bus ride back. It was late when we finally arrived and thankfully the bus dropped us off at out hotels/hostels!Written November 15, 2019
- Vennie F0 contributionsCotopaxi and bike tourThis was an incredible experience to climb two level up Cotopaxi. The tour provided levels for beginners intermediate, and more advanced fitness levels (and abilities to breath at high altitudes). Carlos Gallegos, the tour guide, was engaging and informative about history as well as introducing activities that helped a group of strangers become a group of friends on an adventure. The bike ride down was amazing and exhilarating.Written August 10, 2019
- Kaculda0 contributionsExcellent and exhausting trip to CotopaxiMe and my friend booked a one-day trip to Cotopaxi from Quito through our hostel and had a great time there. Our guide was very friendly, funny, helpful and knowledgeable. I felt like the tour was well organized and I felt safe, as there were 2 other guides joining us for the hike of the volcano and riding the bikes down to the lagoon. Breakfast and lunch were delicious. You can expect to walk a lot, to get your butt sore from riding the bikes down on a bumby gravel road and to get an amazing experience of climbing a volcano with many beautiful views!Written April 13, 2019
- Dertuel0 contributionsAmazing tour to CotopaxiI got picked up from my hotel near Cotopaxi national park. We had breakfast and started the drive to Cotopaxi volcano. On the way we stopped to buy water and snacks and to use toilets. Our handsome guide told us interesting facts about Cotopaxi and the surrounding area. He spoke very good English. Road to Cotopaxi was quite bumpy but our sexy driver made it feel very safe. The hike up to Cotopaxi refuge was great. It was a bit cold and rainy on the way, so I recommend dressing accordingly. At the refuge they have toilets, snacks and hot beverages. Way down can be done very fast because you can basically slide down the hill. Just be careful not to twist your angles. We had a hailstorm on the way down, but it's very easy to find the way even when visibility is not the best.Written April 5, 2019
- Roland_JYF0 contributionsDangerous and poorly planned tourWe took part in the Cotopaxi tour arranged by Ecuador Treasure on Saturday the 2nd of Mars. We felt that the tour was poorly planned. For example we were picked up at 07:15 in Mariscal by bus but only started climbing Cotopaxi at 11:30. We spent most of the day sitting in the bus or standing around waiting. However, more importantly. We feel like the tour was not safe. Particularly going down Cotopaxi with MTB. I got a bike with bad brakes. In the beginning the brakes were OK but in the middle of the hill, my brakes stopped working and even though I was braking hard, the bike was going faster and faster, which was very scary. One Brazilian guy on this tour fell from his bike and dislocated his shoulder. This could have happened to me too but luckily, I have a lot of experience with MTB and managed to stop my bike. But I was scared. Not all bikes are bad, only some. I changed bike and the new bike was good. We were shocked to learn that there was not insurance for the MTB part of the tour and there was no plan for how to take care of injured people. The tour continued as usual even though we had an injured person who was in pain. I told the guide that the injured guy needs to be taken to a hospital immediately and preferably to a private hospital in Quito. But there was no insurance to pay for the private hospital and the guide was in no hurry. The guy was taken to a local public hospital in a small town after we finished the tour. However, after waiting there for an hour, the doctor said that he could not help the poor guy. So ca 5 hours after the accident, the guy was finally taken to a private hospital in Quito. This is tooooo long... I think that Ecuador Treasure could make a good tour to Cotopaxi if they made some changes. 1. All MTBs need to be in top shape. 2. Have a plan for how to handle injuries. There is a plan for handling altitude sickness. There needs to be one for physical injuries too. 3. Make sure everybody on the tour has health insurance. 4. Try to streamline the tour. Less driving around Quito to pick up people and maybe breakfast on the bus. If we are picked up 7:15, I think it is reasonable for us to start hiking before 10:00.Written March 5, 2019
- pampimpom0 contributionsBest trip to CotopaxiWell organized trip. Thanks to our guide Victor who was very patient with us during the trip and made sure everyone was safe and having a good time. He also gave us some information on the volcanos, types of birds and animals in the vicinity. There was a nice stop over for breakfast and lunch in Chiquiragua lodge. Thanks also to our driver who made sure we got home safely, Patricio I think. Suggestion: have a sandwich or light snack with you because you don’t get lunch until about 3-4 pm. Breakfast was at 10 am and climbing Cotopaxi took us about 2-3 hours.Written February 12, 2019
- susannalacy0 contributionsGreat Trip! The guides were amazing and extremely helpful for everyone on the hike and the bikes. I had an amazing time at Cotopaxi and I would definitely recommend!Written February 3, 2019
- Katherine K0 contributionsAwesome day! This trip was awesome and our guides made the whole day! Breakfast and lunch were delicious and the hike was amazing. The bus ride is very bumpy once inside the park, but if you are expecting it then it is fine. My only complaint is that the bikes need servicing. The trail down is extremely bumpy and the bikes make it painful on your hands and butt. Overall though this is a must do trip!Written January 14, 2019

We did the Mindo tour today and it seemed like it was their first tour as it was so unorganized. First we were told pick up time was at 610 a.m.. They picked us up directly on time, which was nice. However, we then drove around in circles for an hour as some people were late and the tour company seemed confused on how to handle it. We were essentially punished for being on time.
Next, we finally got to Mindo. We did a stop for breakfast, which was nice. It was a roadside cafe. Then the guides talked to each other for about 15 - 20 minutes trying to decide how to transport us to different activities.
The zip lines and chocolate factory were well run by the people there. They did a great job explaining and checking in on us.
Our guide took us to the waterfalls after and wouldn't give us any time limits. We just wanted to know how much time we had and couldn't get a clear answer.
After we had "lunch" at 4 PM, because of how poorly run this day was. We didn't have time for the butterfly factory either.
Overall, I really recommend Mindo, but I would do it on your own or with a different company.

We had the Mindo full day tour from Quito with David Sánchez. The whole day was enjoyable and David is an experienced, knowledgeable tour guide. And he is extremely kind and thoughtful guy, one of my friend got car sick so he took care of her and made sure if she was okay for a whole day. We really appreciate him.
We learned so much about flora and fauna of Ecuador. My favorite parts were visiting the hummingbird sanctuary and Mindo chocolate local enterprise. We tasted the mixture of different flavor and percentage of chocolates. Making chocolate from cacao was so much fun. David took so much pictures and video and shared with us. He’s really good at this.
