This premium tour was a very small group, only 4 people plus the guide. Instead of a large tour bus we were comfortably taken in a small van, which made it easier to hear our guide and talk with each other. The four of us plus the guide represented 4 different countries, and we had some really interesting conversations. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the flora & fauna at Petrohue Falls, and gave us a lot of detailed information. We had a very good lunch at the restaurant on the volcano, and then took the ski lift up and continued walking from there. It was a gorgeous day and the view was absolutely spectacular.

Jaime, our host/tour guide, was exceptional! Friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and full of good information; historical as well as botanical. He called to our attention the unique biodiversity of the area saved by making all of these lands National Parks at the suggestion of Theodore Roosevelt, upon one of his visits to Chile. As an avid photographer, he stopped and showed us particular points of interest where we could take a picture, so we did! A most enjoyable experience! Highly recommended to anyone coming down these paths!… you must!

SouthernEx, located in Puerto Varas, Chile, in the Region of the Lakes, gave us a fantastic experience in this part of the south of Chile. Jaime was extremely knowledgeable of the area and passionate about giving visitors an informative and great experience. SouthernEx is not the least expensive of all of the Tours and Operators that are available in the area. But, it is the best of them all. They only do small groups; provide all the fees required to go into the National Parks and provide outstanding lunches for the guests. We had a wonderful time hearing about the environment of the area; seeing the penquins on Isla Chiloe; observing the incredible Iguazu Petrohue and observing the beautiful scenery of the area, both from the road(s) leading to the destinations and from at the Osorno Volcano Ski Center. SouthernEx has the capabilities to create memorable experiences all over the Country of Chile; not just in the Puerto Varas area. Jaime is not only a great guide; but, also, a wonderful person to be around. He not only knows what he is doing; but, he also has so many contacts in the area that help him make your Tour(s) enjoyable. Even though SouthernEx is a little more expensive than other Tours, it is well worth it to spend the extra money to take a Tour with them.

Great day out with Jaime. He adapted the trip to suit me and the Esther, holiday season as I was the only person that day. GREAT Professionals that understand how to deliver a holiday full of adventure and fun for the entire family. Our family loved this company, their excursions, and especially their guides. We are a family of 4 that was seeking a variety of activities. We let SouthernEx Chile plan propose an agenda and they delivered a family adventure that included; sunset/dinner on Volcan Villarrica with great wine, A visit to a tour/visit to a Mapuche village, Geothermal hotspring baths (we loved this), kayaking on la Poza Lagoon, lunch and tour of Volcano Osomo, full day tour of Desolación trail. SouthernEx Chile also took care of all our accommodations and transfers. The hotels and lodges that they booked were incredible. All were very kid friendly and nearly all had spectacular views. They also prepared/catered a few of the venues and we were never disappointed with the food, or beverages! The planning, venues, activities were fantastic but the the SouhernEx Chile team of guides, drivers, and hosts was what really ensured a wonderful, stress-free, vacation. We never had any communication issues, the drivers were always were on-time, and the knowledge of the guides was very impressive. We have 2 boys (age 4 and 10) and on multiple occasions the SouthernEx Chile team was entertaining our children while me and my wife were relaxing or having a nice glass of wine. One of the things that is important when it comes to having a travel guide partner is “issue resolution”. I don’t like being on vacation and dealing with issues. SouthernEx Chile excelled at this. Our travels in the Chile (Villarrica, Puerto Varas, and Santiago areas) were during the Coronavirus outbreak. There were multiple restrictions that were introduced during our visit and could have had a huge impact on our holiday. SouthernEx proactively dealt with all this by rearranging our agenda (activities, hotels, and a flight). All of these changes executed by SouthernEx with no stress on me or our family. They were great about informing us about these regulation issues, but they always had a proposal that effectively dealt with the issue and keeping our vacation wonderful. I recommend this company to all seeking a wonderful adventure with no planning stress!

Jaime gave us a great experience around Llanquihue lake. The quality of service and knowledge transference was unique. Learning from birds, trees, german history and geographic/geological features...was simply fabulous. Tailored and boutique experience.

Jaime and Jose were great hosts! They we’re so knowledgeable about all of the various wildlife and plants around the area. They tailored the trip to exactly what my boyfriend and I wanted and topped it all off with a beautiful lunch and wine on the Osorno Volcano! The trip was just the right amount of adventure and luxury. I would recommend them to anyone visiting Puerto Varas!

My husband and I spent a week in the Lake District of Chile and had an exceptional time. Our lasting memories won't be just of the views of our surroundings but from the wonderful hospitality that we received by the operators of SouthernEx Chile. We went on 2 full-day trips with Jaime and Jose Luis - Osorno & Petrohué Falls and Chiloé Island to see the penguin colony. On the Osorno & Petrohue Falls tour, we planned to arrive early to Vincente Peréz Rosales national park to avoid the large group tours and enjoy viewing of the falls and the Petrohué river in peace, which we appreciated. Along the river, Jaime and Jose Luis set up a lovely spread of charcuterie along with local wines and beers after our park visit. The food was delicious and they were great company. On the Penguin colony tour in Chiloé, Jaime and Jose Luis made stops along the way to the colony, so that we could get a real appreciation for the life and history of the island. There are certainly many tour operators to choose from when visiting Chile, however, SouthernEx Chile is not like the rest. They are focused on the details that make the tour feel personal and relaxed. For example, I'm an avid knitter and they went out of their way to take me to the markets on Chiloé so I could buy some wool. Jaime spoke fluent English and was well-versed in the history and ecology of the area that all of our questions were answered during our tours. When we travel back to Chile again, I would trust my time with the team at SouthernEx Chile.

We spent three days with Jamie and his partner for SouthernEx Chile and it was the highlight of our time in Chile. They were so amazing and when weather prevented us from doing one of our tours, they modified an earlier tour to accommodate us and make sure we still had an amazing time! Their tours are truly unique and specialized!! I recommend SouthernEx for everyone!!!

Guide was brilliant, friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. All on time, organised. Some beautiful wildlife, all pointed out to us along the journey with extra stops for photos always allowed if needed. Brilliant!

Had a great time and felt very "taken care of" during our stay from meeting us at the airport, a day trip to skiing, and our day trip to Chiloe Island. Jaime even helped make arrangements for my hotel in Santiago to overnight ship my computer charger I had left behind! Our trip to Chiloe Island and the ferry ride was especially fun. And the history / background on the tour was just the right amount of information. Really was a great day enjoyed by all.

We stayed in Puerto Varas and we used Jaime with SouthernEx Chile. We had two private tours: A ski day at Volcan Osorno, and a trip to Chiloe island. They also did our transfers from Puerto Montt airport. They did an excellent job and were very professional.

Like the previous reviewer, we did a couple of private day trips with SouthernEx. Having someone with a good command of English (my Spanish is almost non-existent) was essential. Jaime was perfect for us. The first trip was to Petrohue falls, Lago Todos los Santos and Osorno Volcano. Jaime shared a lot of interesting information about each place we visited and patiently answered my questions. The lunch provided was excellent and coffee stops were included. The view from half way up Osorno Volcano is not to be missed and the Petrohue falls are amazing. The second trip was to Chiloe. We chose to limit things a bit and went to Chacao, Ancud and the charcuterie at Puerto Elvira. We could have included a visit to the penguins but chose not to. Like the first day, it all went very smoothly. A visit to the Ancud markets, a delightful lunch, a very interesting look at the towns and lots of chat about the way things are done on Chiloe. I can definitely recommend SouthernEx.
