About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- E9880EUrauls0 contributionsGreat experience all aroundThe guide Blas has a lot of experience. He explained each stage, was friendly and provided all the equipment required. The ascent was at a good pace and going down on the slider was a lot of fun. I wouldn't change anything to this experience. I'm taking with me great memories and photos.Written December 30, 2024
- omar a0 contributionsNot flexibleThere was a misunderstanding of the tour time, which they didn’t handle it very well, they have just left without me and they didn’t tried to call me at least. Also they were not flexible as well as they refused to refund the money or take the tour in the next day. They wanted me to pay again if i take it in the next day.Written December 27, 2024
- emmaoK8011LC0 contributionsAmazing!A totally amazing experience. The guide was extremely helpful and very accommodating with the pace and stops up the volcano. Of course incredible views all the way. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!Written December 27, 2024
- pharmateg0 contributionsPerfect Villaricca climbThe hike was amazing thanks to Blas. He picked a very nice day for climbing. (I had a 3 days window of opportunity). The pace was perfect and he gave me all the necessary info and gear to feel myself 100% safe all the time. Also he gave me a surprise because we slide down from the mountain which was awsome. I can only recommend to hire him as a guide or use rutas outdoor company services.Written December 2, 2024
- yujiaoq20240 contributionsGreat experience sumitting villaricaBlas was a great guide! I felt safe and had an exciting adventure. The view was great at the top and the difficulty of the hike was reasonable. Everyone should try this!Written January 9, 2024
- Sam S0 contributionsFantastic guided day hike at Huerquehue! We really enjoyed our day with Mariana and trekking in the National Park. Mariana was so full of joy, information and love of nature that it made the trekking really fabulous! We saw others doing the hike without anyone guiding them and they missed out on so much of the flora and fauna both large and small that we got to experience because of our guide. I also really appreciate how professional the booking process was and how responsive Rutas Outdoors was to all our enquiries. Excellent company! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Written January 4, 2024
- JasonPalleschi0 contributionsVolca-no? Volca-yes!This was the best experience of our trip (and we took many tours on our 3 week vacation). The staff organizing the trip ensured we were well-prepared for the hike. Joaquin, our guide, was very knowledgeable, funny, and encouraged us throughout the hike in all the right ways. He felt like a friend by the end of the day. The hike itself was difficult, but beautiful and very rewarding. The way down was extremely fun, sliding down the mountain. I would highly recommend it!Written December 28, 2023
- garce930 contributionsA Must in Pucón!!I just sent a message on what’s app and got sorted so quickly. Super friendly staff - boots, gloves, backpack with all the snow bits in it and a little granola snack were all provided. I ended up being the only person on this particular trip with guide Blas and it was awesome! He is super knowledgable and knows the mountains so well - we had a bit of craic along the way too! Nothing like you’re own private tour😅 The summit was closed due to volcano activity being risky so I will have to come back again to get a look in the crater!Written November 26, 2022
- I9754XT_0 contributionsOnce in a lifetime experienceClimbing the mountain was one of the most challenging moments of my trip in South America, the views are stunning, the experience of climbing a Tahaga volcano to the mouth is overwhelming. The climb is difficult and suitable for the physically fit. The descent is in a hurry with fun surfing, scary loading, we went with the company .backpackerpucon, they were amazing, I really recommend to do thisWritten October 3, 2022
- kconn960 contributionsRutas Outdoors 100%Super amazing experience with Rutas Outdoors! The guides determined the best day to do the hike amidst crazy wind and thunder storms. There were 5 guides for a group of 10 client which made for a lot of personal guidance and information about the volcanos in the region. They were all super experienced and prioritized safety of their clients. We started hiking around 7am, summited around 1pm (lots of breaks and challenging winds), and returned to the base around 3:30pm. I will definitely be back to do Volcan Villarica with them, but next time on skis!Written February 25, 2022
- ErwinvanVroenhoven0 contributionsVillarica volcano ascent - brilliant! We had a fantastic time climbing the Villarica volcano. Grace was our guide and she was brilliant. Setting the right pace for us - not too slow/not too fast and helping us get comfortable with the tricky parts - crampons on the steep glacial ice/snow slope and the tobogganing down. It is quite an experience climbing to the top, looking into the enormous crater with a gas mask on and specially the descent sliding on your bum through the snow chutes.Written January 16, 2022
- hcarla0 contributionsexcellent and wonderful experience climbing the volcano with this agency I totally recommend it.Ha sido una maravillosa experiencia subir el volcán Villarrica con guías especializados y con implementos necesarios en buen estado. El Volcán es precioso, tiene una vista del paisaje que siempre recordaré. Y llegar a la cima fue un sueño hecho realidad. Estoy muy agradecida de la agencia Rutas Outdoors por haberme ayudado en esta experiencia. Totalmente recomendada. It has been a wonderful experience to climb the Villarrica volcano with specialized guides and with the necessary implements in good condition. The Volcano is beautiful, it has a view of the landscape that I will always remember. And reaching the top was a dream come true. I am very grateful to the Rutas Outdoors agency for having helped me in this experience. Fully recommended.Written December 17, 2021
- myorston0 contributionsAwesome summit of an active volcanoDefinitely a must do experience if you pass through Pucon. Hike is not a piece of cake but very doable if you’re reasonably fit. Even though the day was cloudy we got a great view of the volcano once we were above the clouds. The Ruta Outdoors people were great. Equipment was top notch and you get everything you need - boots, cramp-ons, ankle covers, waterproof pants and jacket, gloves and ice axe. Blas, our guide, was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. On our descent, we slid down about half way using a sort of flexible plastic dish (also supplied), which was a blast! All in all, 100% recommended and you won’t go wrong if you choose Ruta Outdoors.Written September 18, 2021
- sheela R0 contributionsBest of PuconThis was my first ever visiting a Volcano with my husband in 2003. Incredible experience, the place is very beautiful and the hike through the volcano and the descent through the snow is super fun! Our group guide was really amazing and don’t remember his name . It was really so tuff to climb and I didn’t have any food with me and that there were some Israeli students helped me with their sandwiches, while I waited for my group .Written August 29, 2021
- cristinavergara0 contributionsAmazing experience volcano ascentIt was a really good experience, more than I expected. There was like 4 hours of ascent, the view was amazing. As we were higher the view was even better. In term of difficulty it wasn’t as difficult as I thought. The guide and the team were worry that everybody were enjoying the experience, stopping if it was need it or going slower if someone was tired. They also provided a very complete and good equipment. When we arrive to the top they prepared to us a picnic, whith an amazing view to the volcano and to the lake. It was December 31st, so they also brought New Year cotillon. To go downhill we slidding with part of out equipment like a trineo, we have a lot of fun. I strongly recommend this experience! Was amazing.Written January 3, 2021

From start to finish, this was a great adventure. Our guides, Francisco and Felipe, picked us up at our apartment. Both were respectful, knowledgeable and pleasant to spend the day. After a rigorous hike that opened into expansive 360 degree views of towering volcanos, we enjoyed soaking in amazing hot springs for several hours. Our guides were flexible and made various suggestions that helped us get the most from this day long excursion. There is food and drink for purchase at the hot springs but be sure to pack snacks and water for the hike.
I recommend this for folks ready for a hiking challenge and who appreciate natural wonders of hot springs, mature foliage and crystal clear waterfalls. Memorable day!

This was a great day! Francisco and Felipe picked us up at our hotel, brought us the the Rutas Headquarters to have coffee. We got some gear and were off. The trip from Pucon is about 2 hours. We parked at the hot springs entrance, starting the hike there. The hike was through a forested area. It was steep! Like 45 degree angles for the middle part, but we made it in good spirits. My parents are 57 and 65, and they did great! Francisco and Felipe were supportive, knowledgeable, kind, funny and encouraging! They really made the day special. The up took about 3 hours for us, it was a nice workout and the views at the top are beautiful. We ate lunch, took some pictures, then headed back down the mountain. We then went into the hot springs. WOW!! They are this series of beautifully designed walkways all the way up to a waterfall. We spent about two hours walking from pool to pool, how relaxing! Plus the food at the Thermas cafe was excellent. Big thanks to Francisco and Felipe for a stellar day we will never forget! Definitely a good value.

We had an amazing experience with Rutas Outdoors and could not be more grateful. We opted for a trek with stunning views of the Villarrica volcano, followed by a visit to the Geometric Thermal Baths, and everything was simply perfect.
The trekking was really special. We walked on trails away from the crowds, which made the experience feel super exclusive. The views of the Villarrica volcano were spectacular, with its snow-capped summit and imposing presence that dominates the landscape. Blás, our guide, gave us detailed explanations about the region, the local flora, and made us always feel safe and comfortable.
After the trekking, we visit the Geometric Thermal Baths, which are undoubtedly one of the most magical places in the area. The hot springs surrounded by unique architecture and the soothing sound of the water created a unique atmosphere. Being able to relax there after the walk was the icing on the cake.
Blás is an exceptional guide: professional, attentive and very warm. Your dedication made this day perfect for us. Moreover, the fact that the tour was so personalized and exclusive gave it an even more special touch.
We recommend Rutas Outdoors to anyone looking for an authentic and quality experience in the region. Thank you, Blas, for giving us this special memory!

The hike was excellent, and the views were incredible at the top. It was pretty steep at some parts, so if you are new to hiking, I would recommend to go very slow. Mariana was an excellent guide, and was very knowledgeable of the plants and other species around. We were able to finish up our day at the incredible hot springs. These are the largest springs I’ve ever been to. There were so many to choose from, and a beautiful waterfall at the top. I highly recommend this adventure!

The trek is tough towards the start, but becomes more manageable as you climb higher. Along the way, I learned about the local plant life and culture, and saw amazing landscape views of the area. The summit is beautiful, especially with the light snowfall going on when I was there.
The much-deserved hot springs afterwards is very relaxing too. Even though it was winter and the weather was cold, the springs were great, with several pools in different temperatures. Staff was also very friendly and accommodating!

My husband and I were the only participants so we got, Lou, our wonderful guide all to ourselves. He spoke great English but also let us practice our spanish. It was a beautiful drive from town to the parking lot for the Termas Geometricas. We never would have found the trailhead or hiked such a remote trail on our own. It was great to have a guide lead us through the forest as we climbed up through many different ecosystems on the skirt of the volcano. It was interesting to have Lou tell us about the different plants and the culture of the indigenous people. Then we popped out of the forest and onto the basalt and tundra all around the skirt of the volcano. We were fortunate to have a clear warm day and some beautiful views. The hike down was steep but equally enjoyable. The geometricas were in a beautiful setting and so enjoyable. I would recommend this tour.

It was great experience despite the weather was not perfect and Vulcan was in fog there was still a lot to see - beauty of Chilean nature. Trip was very well organised and I felt very safe with our guide Blas. In the finalisation of the trip we were resting in Termas Geométricos - fantastic place built with great taste and everyone can enjoy time in plenty of natural pools.

This trek is tough but well worth it for the views of the Volcano. Steep uphill followed by steep downhill. Only about 3 hours in total. Blas our guide was amazing . He was so helpful anytime we needed a bit of assistance. He provided poles for us which were a game changer. He drove us about two hours to the start.
Very well organised. The hot springs were a great antidote to the trek. Very interesting place with lots of different pools for bathing. Locker & key provided so all your stuff is safe. I would suggest bringing a change of clothes so you travel back in fresh clothes.

Rodrigo was a great guide, very knowledgeable about flora/fauna, friendly, and fun to chat with. I hiked with my sister (we are 31 and 29 years old, fairly active people). We tried to contact the tour operator (Rutas Outdoors) several times via phone and WhatsApp prior to booking to see if it was suitable for our father (63, has had a hip replacement) and unfortunately never got any responses back. He didn’t end up coming which turned out to be very good - this hike is NOT suitable if you have any health conditions or fitness concerns. It was about 1-1.5 hours hours of steep upwards climbing, and several scrambles over fallen trees. We definitely earned the views at the top and the soak in the thermal pools afterwards!

It's beautiful! The climb is difficult, I couldn't make it to the end (I gave up halfway through), mostly because I didn't see the point in climbing any further when in fact what I wanted was to go to the thermal baths hahahaha
The guide Flavio was very patient with me, very kind, respectful and polite at all times. Well, and the hot springs at the end were incredible. Along the way the view is beautiful, the thermal baths are equally wonderful! I recommend!
