- Orangerinnie0 contributionsFun, food and fabulous experienceWe went last week and had so much fun with Mary and Annie leading us not only a through the fabulous food we prepared from scratch ( a yummy chicken curry, roti jala and tapioca desert) but also the rich heritage of Singapore. I would highly recommend this wonderful experience, you will have a great laugh and time. And of course eat the food you've prepared.Written May 4, 2024
- Samantha M0 contributionsPerfect way to spend half a day!!Ann was such a wonderful host and teacher! Our family of four (2 adults and two teenagers) had such a great cooking experience. We all thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make authentic food from scratch and also learning a bit about Singapore cuisine and history along the way. Very grateful and very full at the end of our session after enjoying all of our efforts at the dining table! We had a lovely group of 7 people in our class. Besides learning to cook some great Indian dishes, we also learned some cultural history, all while having fun. Ann, Helen and Auntie were helpful and hands-on. Concept of having a small competition and certain judging criteria between 3 teams keep us on the toes and working with the pressure. I contacted Daniel to request for a quotation and was given details on how and what will be conducted. We were impress from the start because there was no hidden cost and the interaction was smooth. Annie and Cindy were our host for the day, they gave us clear instructions and guided us throughout the session. The team bonding was a success, the place was clean and perfect for the 14 of us. We had fun whipping up 3 healthy dishes. We highly recommend food playground for company looking for team bonding activities! The 3 item cooking class was informative and fun. Helen and Monica are very knowledgeable and excellent hosts. Organization apparently gives moms with amazing cooking skills to teach, get an income, and a break. Hosts were very friendly and encouraging to ‘students’. Everything provided including aprons.
May be challenging to find location but can only enter building approx 10 min earlier.
Manager Daniel kindly emailed recipes and photos within 24 hrs. So glad to learn how to make and eat Peranakan Hoon Kueh, Spring Rolls and Nyonya Laksa. Free drinks were hot and cold water, coffee and tea.
Recommend this activity for those who want to expand their cooking skills with family recipes passed down through generations

I am a Singaporean living in Australia. I do come home every 12-18 months and I never would have thought I would appreciate an activity like this. I've never attended a cooking class, let alone a cooking class in my home town, WHILE I'm on holidays, but I really had fun doing it! Our group was a 6-person group (visitors from a few different continents!) so it was small and intimate, and we didn't feel rushed. Everyone got along well. Ann was a true local and explained a bit of history of the foods we offer in Singapore, and she facilitated the class with a lot of ease, passion and confidence. My husband and I had a lot of fun making the Laksa, spring rolls and hoon kueh (all from scratch!) and of course, eating them!! I would highly recommend this class to anyone who has 3 hours to spare during their holidays, or are even remotely curious about the Singaporean food culture.

There are many delicious things in Singapore, but I wanted to experience them rather than just eat them, so I participated with my son, who is an elementary school student. For the first hour or so, we learned about the history, culture, and background of the food in a quiz-style classroom, which was very interesting. For over three hours from morning to noon, we were able to interact with the charming local teachers who love to talk, and with participants from other countries. After participating, my son also looked for the dishes he learned about at the restaurant, and was able to talk about various things based on what he experienced during the program, which sparked a lot of interest and made it a great experience. I think it will be difficult if both parents and children cannot speak English, but if you can get past that, I highly recommend it!

The instructors are friendly and passionate, which makes the whole experience fun and engaging. They provide clear instructions and guidance throughout the cooking process, ensuring that even beginners can follow along easily.
The best part about Food playground is that they offer a wide range of cooking classes, from local Singaporean dishes to international cuisines. This allows participants to explore and learn about different cultures through food. It's a great opportunity to try new recipes and techniques that I wouldn't have otherwise known about.
The facilities at Food playground are also top-notch. The kitchen is clean and well-equipped, with all the necessary tools and ingredients readily available. The cooking stations are spacious, allowing everyone to work comfortably. They even provide aprons and utensils, so you don't have to worry about bringing anything.
One thing I really appreciate about Food playground is their emphasis on sustainability. They promote the use of locally sourced and organic ingredients, as well as reducing food waste. It's great to see a cooking school that cares about the environment and encourages participants to adopt eco-friendly practices in their own kitchens.
Overall, my experience with Food playground has been fantastic. It has completely changed my perspective on cooking, turning it from a boring chore into a fun and exciting activity. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn new recipes, improve their cooking skills, or simply have a great time with friends and family.

It was a good experience. It was my first time to cook Singaporean dishes. I like not only cooking itself but also listening Sara's historical and social cooking story. Most of all, I thought their business model was very meaningful and valuable because it is for giving social opportunities to the full time mams or the socially disconnected woman. I had fund and definitely recommend it.

This was my first time taking a cooking class, either in Korea or abroad. The teacher said he was not a professional chef, but his cooking skills were so good that he could open a restaurant right away. This is my first time taking a cooking class so I can't force you to take this class, but if you want to take a cooking class in Singapore but don't know where to go, try "Food Playground" where they have friendly and very friendly people, it won't disappoint you. no see.

A great class for those who love to eat and to have a hands-on cooking experience. The instructors, Mary and Annie, assisted by Mrs Lee in the kitchen, guided and supervised us every step of the way. The class was well paced so at no time did we feel rushed or anxious. Lots of laughter, little anecdotes and chatter while cooking. Best part (naturally) was sitting down to eat what we’ve cooked: chicken masala, lentils, bryani rice, cucumber salad. Delicious and authentic. This was my second class and I plan to sign up for another class when I’m back in Singapore.

We loved this! It really helped us understand the food culture everyone raves about, and we felt much more confident trying dishes in the hawker centres.
The class was well organized, clean, well equipped, and a lot of fun. Everything was extremely delicious and we had a great time.
I highly recommend taking this class toward the beginning of your trip if you can!

We loved our experience at the cultural cooking class. It was a small, intimate group and the two instructors were very helpful and hands on. We learned to make Roti, Chinese curry (with chicken and potatoes) and coconut tapioca bats for dessert.
Another thing I loved about this cooking school is their social mission which involves hiring women who are seeking employment after raising their children.
Would highly recommend this class as a way to learn about the Singaporean culture and pick up some interesting cooking tips.

The teacher's talk was interesting and easy to understand, and the three hours flew by. I was worried about my English ability, but the teacher, staff, and the kind Australian parents and children sitting next to me kindly supported me. I learned about the local food culture, interacted with people from overseas, and it was an unforgettable day for my middle school daughter. I would highly recommend this not only to tourists but also to people living in Singapore.

Hi, Are there vegetarian ( no seafood) options to cook?
Written September 1, 2022
Yes. I have anaphylaxis to pepper and slightly changed the recipe by leaving it out. If you let them know in advance (when you book) of your needs it shouldn't be a problem

Hi,
I am trying to book for the 24 February for 3 but every time I go to pay, it comes up on your page cannot finalise booking. Can you help please.
Written February 6, 2022
I am seeing this correctly???
You upcharge for one person to attend the class, by as much as $15.00 USD; compared to two persons...
I'm not sure I understand why this is - if your minimum number of students is met. Solo travelers shouldn't pay more, simply for traveling 'SOLO'. Unfortunately, I will not book with a company that demonstrates obvious price discrimination!

I booked all my various classes online and exchanged mails of confirmation and information. Foodplayground is very precise: they start at 9.30 and ends after about 3 hours. Others schools (I recommend also Cookery Magic), being held at private homes, may have variable schedules, but very easy to keep in touch with.
Others I had booked, were cancelled at the last minute for lack of participants.
Enjoy the experience !!
