Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Banxee0 contributionsUnique experienceI did it on scuba diving. Definitely worth going. I will go again March. Very nice for photos. Although there may be many tourists, there is space for everybody.Written September 17, 2024
- B2G0 contributionsNot too badCanyoneering was great - very adventurous and worth it. Whale Sharks is a must do one time thing, but it is not a repeat for me. A one time tour - too much of a hassle - get up early, long travel, long wait, too crowded etc.Written July 20, 2024
- daviddoylearts0 contributionsOslob Adventure .A wonderful experience and adventure, arranged by my sister in law. It's started at 4AM in Cebu and lasted a day and a half., our van tour guide picked us up, and the tip took 4 hours, and the rest. Because the roads were athrocious, the journey lasted forever, but it was worth it. Day 1 Swimming the turtels & other sea life and magical waterfall, fantastic. DON'T brink a drone it's a waste of time. Swimming in open water with majestic sea life this big was unbelievable.Written July 15, 2024
- Agot760 contributionsOne for the memory bankThis was an amazing experience! At first I was hesitant to go down the water but when I saw the "gentle giant" just swimming around and near our boat, I decided that I just have to go and observe this amazing creature under water and it was an experience one for the books! Really had a great time!Written June 30, 2024
- Abs9870 contributionsDO NOT GOI cannot recommend this experience at all. It was highly unethical and it made it an awful experience. I wish I did more research before going, if I had known how bad it was I wouldn’t have gone as it truly was not worth seeing these creatures like this. Yes you are guaranteed to see them but it’s like seeing them in a zoo. The poor creatures are just eating straight from the boat and there is hundreds of people around. We were also scared of being hit by the boats as it’s so crowded. Please don’t go!!Written May 2, 2024
- E8036VIdonnar0 contributionsOslob Whale Shark and CanyoneeringThe 4 of us loved the whole experience!! Ronel picked us up right on time. Maria was fantastic getting us sorted at the whale sharks. The sharks were amazing. The guys at canyoneering were the best. They were very friendly, attentive and made sure we had the best experience. We had a fantastic day overall. Ronel got us back to our accommodation. Would recommend this tour to anyone.Written April 2, 2024
- toamatapu0 contributionsAVOID THIS COMPANY: No customer service. No preparationIsland Trek Tours (ITT) does not care about high-quality customer service. We paid too much for far too little. When we signed up for the service, we expected “a unique swimming experience with whale sharks with LESS HASSLE from booking to entire trip.” That was not the case. ITT did not provide guidance on preparation (online bookings, avoiding long lines, etc.). The management team refused to help in the early morning. Avoid their private tour options. You will be treated as a member of a group instead of a valued client.Written February 10, 2024
- Cassara0 contributionsOnly for those in shapeI'm not sure if this was the company we used as we booked it at the Shangri-la hotel. In general the whale shark experience is magnificent. The sharks are harmless and gentle although this is not for everyone. The sea is choppy and you need to hang on to outriggers and snorkel to be able to see the sharks swim by. They feed the sharks from 8am to 1pm to keep them close and visible to the tourists. There is a crowd waiting to go out in the boats so arrive early. Next, the canyoneering experience is extreme and not for those that are not fit. It's about 3-4 hours of non-stop climbing, swimming and hiking on uneven ground. The guides were terrific and kept us safe. The canyon is beautiful and worth a visit.Written February 6, 2024
- Tour238540492220 contributionsA surreal experience!!We had a great experience. We were unsure whether to do this activity as we had heard some mixed reviews. When we got there we waited over 2 hours, but we were expecting this so it was fine. The boats were constantly coming in and out, it looked very busy, but it meant there wasn't a huge number of people actually in the water at one time. Once it was our turn it all went very smoothly. We had amazing views of the Whale Sharks, it was surreal. People on smaller boats fed thr whale sharks and we watched them swim back and forth feeding. All of our group kept a distance from the whale sharks, as we were told to do in the briefing, and it really felt like we were just observing the majestic creatures. As long as you know what to expect, it's an amazing experience and I would recommend it!Written January 11, 2024
- Marsi-Barsi890 contributionsJust horribleWe were sceptical because this is a place where the whalesharks are beeing fed. But the feeding wasn't even the worst part. The rules / code of conduct (specially keeping distance to the animals and max 4 boats) were absolutely not followed. We saw dozens of people touching the whalesharks and lots of snorkelers hopping on top of the animals (even some "guides" pushing the tourists out of the boat on top of the animals). The snorkeling boats were literally driving into the whalesharks. Some people were hit by the fins because they got way too close to the animals. One of the worst experience we had. This trip should not be supported and the government should place proper rules and enforce them. If you love marine life, you should absolutely avoid this place.Written December 30, 2023
- Eric L0 contributionsOnce-in-lifetime experience to dive with Whale SharksMy 2 friends and I went to Oslob to dive with whale sharks in Nov 2023 as part of our diving expedition to Moalboal. We did 2 dives; 1st at ~7am when the giant fish were being fed and 2nd at 9am when the feeding was almost done and the whale sharks were swimming around and leaving. We captured these giant fish from all possible angles underwater; captured their silhouette against sun rays penetrating thru’ the clear water, and also up close of the whale sharks’ frontal features and their massive caudal and dorsal fins. I truly enjoyed this surreal experience. I probably would not do this once-in-lifetime experience again but preferably watch them in the wild in my dive expeditions. Reason being, the whale sharks, amounting about 11 in the trip, were likely be resident sharks giving the numerous tears seen on their caudal and dorsal fins and scars on their bodies, probably cut by propellers of motor boats. It wasn’t a pretty sight to behold and we actually felt sad at the state of these giant fish.Written November 18, 2023

- Laurensbond0 contributionsAnimal crueltyDo not go here!!! This is the most unethical thing I have ever witnessed. People are touching the whale sharks, they are being fed to lure them into a small area which leads them to swimming into boats and injuring themselves. These animals are supposed to migrate not be fed continuously so the tourists can get ‘the perfect insta shot’ Pure tourist trap and complete animal cruelty. Go diving with them instead in the wild! Don’t do this. Ps a tonne of jellyfish here - witnessed every person having been stung multiple times throughout this activityWritten April 4, 2023
- trangn8720 contributionsGreat experience with whale sharkWell I M a diver and I dove in Thailand to see the whale sharks there, but this place is great experiences for everyone to swimming or to learning about the whale shark. I highly recommend this to everyone. Of course there is a controversy about this activity but for me, I am ok with it.Written March 31, 2023

Although we had our own transport, we bought tickets/transport through the local hotel as it cuts the waiting time at the visitor centre. We got there before 6 am and there were already so many people there. We got to see the sunrise.
The whale sharks get really close to you and definitely an experience not to be missed. When we were in the water, we felt like we were bitten but didn't see anything. When we got back onto the boat, we mentioned it to the boatman and he told us we were stung by jellyfish, 'like saliva'. Fret not, they sell stuff to get rid of the sting at the 'gift shop'.
Go snorkel. Totally worth it.

We thought that arriving early at 6am (drove 3 hours to be there at 6) would be helpful. It wasn’t so. The water was rough which made it difficult for the boaters. However, some late coming “VIP” tourists cut in and were given priorities which was wrong! The whale shark watching was awesome but to wait for 6 hours was a waste of anybody’s time!

We went to see the whale sharks and were surprised to see no line (pre-pandemic lines were hours long apparently). We showed up at 9am and by 9:30 we were in the water swimming with whale sharks. We saw so many, too many to count. You get so close to them that you have to be careful not to touch them as it is not allowed! They truly are gentle giants, beautiful animals. We found the price to be reasonable, 500 pesos each for over 30 minutes of swimming. Bring your own fins if you have any (they aren’t included but are available for rent). I was stung by a jellyfish while in the water, however so maybe wear a rash guard if you have one. It was a great experience overall, I’d recommend anybody to do it!

Upon arrival at Cebu Airpirt, you have to land tour we had a bus for 6 hrs to Oslob. We checkendin Sacha's resort (2nd time) but now with our son. We booked for the whaleshark sighting at the reception. The whaleshark is scheduled the next day at 6am. Upon arrival they have to explain about the do's and don'ts in the ocean. You have to ride a small boat, each boat is 6 or 5 persons. They will bring you at the middle of the ocean. Where you can see up close with a lot of gentle giants or (Buntanding). They eat plankton so you dont have to be scared. They are so cute in close up.

We went at 06:00 to swim with the whales (maybe better to be there at 05:00/05:30). We waited in line for about an hour, which I think is normal, and there was a lot of people but we had plenty of time to see and experience the whale sharks. It was amazing! If you’re thinking about doing it - don’t even think, just do it :D
And the whale sharks have it good. They come from sea to the shore, get food and no one is allowed to touch them so that is good.

I want to say that any form of animal incarceration is unnatural but for many this is the only opportunity to witness these beautiful creatures close to their normal habitat.
If you feel this is something you wish to do then at least let me offer some details of what is involved.
The site is in Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Oslob. The site opens at 06:00 - 12:00 each day. I had heard different options for going but on this date 03/02/2023 this is how it went.
Arrived at site at 08:00 and was told there was only one Whale Shark and it was unlikely that we could go out. I explained I only had this day and was prepared to wait. So I put my name in the book and I was no. 150. I got to pay for the experience at 10:00 and was on the boat at 10:20. Well worth the wait. There is a sheltered area or sit in the sun.
If I had of arrived at 06:00 I would have been back on shore having seen the Whale Sharks at 07:00.
It was a wonderful experience. We rented a camera (550 pesos) which we gave to one of the guys on the boat and he did the photography and videoing (100 pesos tip). You can use your camera in a water proof bag if you have one (or can buy onsite).
You get into a boat with approximately 10 others, they row you out and using the boats create a constant barrier inside which they feed the sharks to keep them in the zone for us tourists to see up close.
If you have an issue with captivity then this is not for you, but for the majority of normal people we can see the real creatures and hope the money spent is well invested to protect and save the WS’s.
The experience lasted approximately 30 minutes and was a pleasure. Life jackets and masks were included for a fee of 500 pesos, snorkels and flippers could be hired.
There were restaurants, souvineer shops and equipment shops (where I bought water shoes for 400 pesos) at the site.
As we are at 11:30 the site was closing. I have attached some photos to hopefully give a feel for the site.

Whale sharks were awesome but this experience was not natural. Very commercialized and manufactured thru the feeding of the whale sharks to keep them there and way too many people. The tour company was great with transport, tickets, food etc. trip to Oslob was 3.5 hours but back was 5 hours due to traffic.

Don't listen to the hype or any misinformation from uninformed individuals on here.
I come from a background in marine conservation, these animals are not trapped here they can come and go as they please, and they do over time. Its new sharks replacing old ones that left on their migrations around the Philippines.
They still complete their purpose and breed as expected.
We never saw any boats bumping into them as many ppl say.
Sharks are also Hardy creatures, please take some time to educate before making comments you don't understand. I ask you to search for a picture of a great white shark online and tell me they don't have scars.
It's part of their life, their skin is thicker than anyone can comprehend. But either way I didn't see any with scarring surprisingly, there was 1 with a part of its fin chipped, who's to say this wasn't a boat in the open ocean that done this as none if these boats had engines......duh!
Thousands of whales and sharks are maimed, or killed in the open ocean by cargo ships and smaller ships alike, but nobody wants to talk about that do they?
Many websites recommend diving with them in cenderwasih Bay, Indonesia. Where the local fisherman feed the sharks, the same sites with then tell you not to do it at oslob because the local fisherman feed the sharks. That's a completely twisted perspective to have if you ask me. You can't have it both ways it's one or the other! It's as if there's some sort of hate against the Filipino people for some reason.
Yes there are lots of people, but no the sharks are not stressed. I have swam with other species of sharks, some are afraid of humans others are not. These are not afraid, here or anywhere else in the world due to their size.
A stressed shark would not stay there and it would leave pretty quickly. They have found a way to cheat the system for extra food with minimal effort.
Given the option, would you rather eat a singular French fry every mile you walked or have an entire portion in 1 place?
We also never seen anybody touching the sharks, and I honestly did expect to see this, which is why we chose to dive instead of snorkel.
But if you do see anyone doing this, please don't hesitate to give them a hard time for it or pull them away. Nobody will learn if you all just keep quiet at the time, then come online and complain about it.
Bottom line, far too many people that don't understand the actual meaning of ethical and unethical.
The sharks have a choice and that's that.
Go to oslob, support the locals, swim or dive with the sharks and be an example to others around you.
Not many places you can swim with a dozen of these majestical creatures at once 🫡

We had the best time at Oslob! Our guide was really nice and kind and reassuring even when I was struggling under water.
The whalesharks are not caged/ forced in anyway. They naturally arrive to the locations (knowing there is food) in the early mornings and go back deep in the ocean around noon. They are gentle giants that seem very comfortable with humans and boats and pose no threat to them. The guides/ feeders don't harm them in anyway, and none of us even touch the sharks.
We came to understand that this is a whaleshark conservatory that continued their conservations efforts even in the 2 years of Covid lockdown. It is admirable what the staff in Oslob have managed to achieve after decades with these gentle giants.
This is an experience I will never forget in my life.

I am normally a stickler for researching things, however having just gone through a hectic personal period in my life , when it came to booking tours for our trip I drastically dropped the ball. I am actually quite disgusted with myself for paying into this endeavour. The Oslob whale shark snorkel should not be allowed to continue. The fisherman have lured these animals with shrimp (not even their proper diet), they then herd them along a train of approx 15 to 20 boats with 10 people on each. People are then getting far too close to them, touching and some even attempting to ride them. We also witnessed an episode where one whale shark attempted to swim out of its lane and the fisherman herded it back. There should be a call to the government to stop this immediately!!

Hi, if I am already in oslob, can we do it??
Written December 31, 2019
Hi guys. I'm thinking of coming to cebu. I want to do 3 things. I want to go jumping at Kawasan falls, I want to go snorkelling, I want to swim with the whale sharks.
Can you tell me please best area to stay for one week. We prefer close to nightlife, shopping, markets. And love beaches and sunsets.
Any help appreciated.
Written November 7, 2019
I believe Moalboal would be the best spot.
It caters for tourists more readily, has more shopping and tour opportunities.
In Moalboal, you can do Canyoneering and experience the falls, check out the wonderful beach and eat great food.
Oslob is on a the East side, (Moalboal is on the West Side) this is the main route to Moalboal. So maybe leave Whale Sharks to the day when you are leaving to head back to Cebu City as you will be backtracking. Oh, and get to Whale Sharks early as it gets really busy. I think the price was about $700peso.
Take an underwater camera. You can hire a Go Pro for around $550 peso and buy a waterproof phone pouch from $50 to $180 peso.
There is a change room available to rinse off too.
Take a towel and those micro fibre towels that fold up to nothing are really really handy. Keep it in you day pack.
Moist wipes are a must too in your pack. A lot of places don't have toilet paper or napkins. It's just handy.
Enjoy your trip
