Itinerary
- Mayflower St, Mandaluyong, 1550 Metro Manila, Philippines
- 1Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains, located on the tripoint boundary of the Philippines. A small blast marked the beginning of a new, more violent phase of the eruption. A few hours later the same day, massive blasts lasting about half an hour generated big eruption columns, which quickly reached heights of over 19 kms and generated large pyroclastic surges extending up to 4 kms from the summit in some river valleys. Friction in the up-rushing ash column generated abundant volcanic lightning. In March and April 1991, magma rising toward the surface from more than 32 km (20 mi) beneath Pinatubo triggered small volcano tectonic earthquakes and caused powerful steam explosions that blasted three craters on the north flank of the volcano. Thousands of small earthquakes occurred beneath Pinatubo through April, May and early June and many thousand of tons of noxious sulfur dioxide gas were also emitted by the volcano
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Katrina L0 contributionsPhotos and itinerary are a lie- do not useThis is the worst tour I’ve ever been on. You go to none of the locations on the itinerary. Instead you go to similar but different locations. The “sunrise breakfast” had no view and was not worth getting up at 2.30 for (particularly since the van spent an hour outside a store in Manila). Then hike around the mountain entailed 5 min walks between tacky IG photo spots where they would leave you for 30+min a time. There were no caves at all and the guide was super confused saying there aren’t even any in the area. The waterfall was about 1/5th the size of the one shown with muddy water. We spent a lot of time sitting doing nothing (thank god I bought a book). The guides spoke no English so one of the others guests had to translate. Also found out I paid 5x more than anyone else (locals) on the trip which the company said was cause my breakfast (100p) and water (50p) were included. Do not use this tour or tour company, they said it was a mistake but it seems more like a scam on tourists given it was similar locations.Written September 20, 2022

From the meeting point, we travelled in a jeep through the volcanic ash to the trekking start, and the journey was a real experience of the ferocity of the explosion at the time of the eruption, and the volcanic ash wilderness really gave me a sense of the power of nature.
At 70 years old, the journey to the crater lake at the summit was quite difficult for me, but the view from the top was so beautiful that it made me forget all the difficult times I had experienced up to that point.
On the way back, we stopped in the jeep to distribute some small snacks that we had brought with us to some native children living in the area, and it was a very fulfilling day. I'm also grateful to our kind guide.

Does not accept foreign tourists despite the passport. Army decision. Van ride up super early for nothing.
