Do not book with this company it is the worst with respect to being honest about travel times from one location to another and flight bookings. Road travel times were underestimated or not mentioned. The day we travelled from Tibet to Katmandu it took over 11 hours but yet their comment was just that we were “transferring from one country to the other”. The roads we travelled on were full of potholes, with no guard rails and it was a hair-raising experience!

We had arranged (in July) for our October flights from Bhutan to Katmandu to be booked for a morning flight arriving from Bhutan into Katmandu by noon and we had subsequently booked a flight out of Katmandu to Shanghai in the early afternoon. The travel agent Cherry failed to book a morning flight as promised (by email in July) and we therefore didn’t arrive into Kathmandu until mid afternoon (we subsequently had to cancel our flight to Shanghai and book a later flight. We suffered a airline change fee of $650 CDN per person )for both my husband and I) and since we had to change our flight and take an overnight flight to Shanghai we were charged for an extra hotel night in Shanghai (which we were unable to cancel.) When informed of this Great Tibet Tours only offered to pay $190 US for their error. They admitted their mistake, but were not customer service focussed and did not seem to care once they had our money.

Dear Susan, Thank you for your feedback. About the transfer from the Gyirong border to Kathmandu, it's our fault for not mentioning how many hours from Gyirong to Kathmandu. Usually we arrange one day, and it may take from 8 hours to 11 hours, according to the different seasons. You never asked us the exact time and we listed it on our website so we thought that you had already known this info. Many travelers chose to get to Kathmandu from Gyirong port as it just took one day from Tibet to Kathmandu. And yes, the road condition is not good. If we knew you were so mindful of the road condition, we would never sell a product with that route to you. About the flight ticket from Paro to Kathmandu, we do apologize for failing to get the morning flight tickets from Paro to Kathmandu, therefore cause you to endorse your flight tickets from Kathmandu to Shanghai at the expense of USD190. We were willing to compensate but later the price changed by the airlines to USD300. We tried to coordinate with you for other solutions but all declined by you. A dishonest company will not compensate for any loss. Although we lost money this time, we still failed to satisfy our customers, which is a profound lesson for us. Thanks again for pointing out our weakness and we will try our best to improve all kinds of details. Best regards,

We enjoyed the perfect organized tour. Lhasa with the palace, monasteries and walking streets and the view of the Mt. Everest were the highlights of the tis wonderful tour. But not to forget the ride on the Yak.
The tour guide Lobsang was excellent during the entire trip. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history, culture, Buddhism and food of Tibet. He gives excellent insides with a lot of details, shows the best photo places, recommends the fight local food. Beside this he is very friendly, flexible and joyful. Just perfect.
The driver as well was always helpful.
Communication before the trip started was excellent and all the questions answered in the right way.
The only minor negative point was the rather small van for the size of our group and windows of the van very low what made it difficult to enjoy the landscape.
All in all a wonderful experience in Tibet!

Just got back from a 10 day trip with Great Tibet Tour. Our trip consultant, Catherine, was helpful and responsive with my initial questions, booking, and permit process.

During the trip itself, Lobsang was an excellent guide. He's extremely knowledgable, having had 15 years experience as a guide. His insights into the local culture, Buddhism, landscape, food etc. were neverending. There was no question he didn't have the answer to, plus he was just a fun person to be around. He also wanted us to have the best experience possible - pointing out things like a sky burial site in the distance, asking if we wanted to stop by a local market not in the itinerary, or giving us the choice to change our plan slightly to save us money (staying at a nicer hotel further out that had their own hot springs vs. staying at a central hotel and paying 198RMB for a public hot spring).

Our group was made up of a mixture of people on the 7 day tour and the 10 day tour. This is understandable, but it did mean that our bus was slightly uncomfortable (being filled to the max), until the 7 days was over.

In terms of itinerary, it's the same as what most other agencies offer. Personally, I'm not sure that Namtso Lake was worth the extra time and money over the 7 day trip, but I did enjoy the scenery and hot springs there. Lhasa and EBC were definitely the highlights for me, as well as the scenery to and from Shigatse.

I would like to say that my tour arranged by GTT is one of the memorable trips in my life. Tibet is a mysterious place and people there are very welcoming.

I choose to take a train to Tibet from Chengdu. The 36-hour train journey is unbelievable. I enjoy the scenery along the way especially the scenery from Xining to Lhasa. I would recommend taking the train starting from Xining rather than Chengdu. It will save much time and can appreciate the most highlights.

This trip including all my favorite attraction, Potala Palace, Yamdroktso Lake, Everest Base Camp, and Namsto lake. I took photos of the majestic architecture, deep starry sky, and blue lake.

I feel very lucky to have accomplished my goal to Tibet at the age of 60 years old. It was great to have you as my tour operator, I will recommend your agency to my friends.

My husband and I just had a 10 Days Lhasa EBC and Namtso Lake tour with Great Tibet Tour
. It was a great experience!
We booked the trip with Catherine. She helped us every step of the way. Whenever I had a question, she replied back quickly.
Our guide is Duga, and our driver is Pubuciren. They did great job on the trip. Duga showed us many aspects of Buddhist religion, culture and Tibet history. There were long drives on the road. They arranged time so that we were always at scenic view with best whether possible. It was breathtaking when we saw Mount Everest and lake Namtso under perfect whether condition. Thank you all for the wonderful journey!

My sister and I booked 10 Days Lhasa EBC and Namtso Lake tour with Great Tibet Tour. We both enjoy our tour in Tibet. Our guide Dajie is very nice, patient and knowledgeable. Dajie is not only explained the Buddhist culture and Tibetan history but also very patient to answer the questions from our group. He brought us to a local countryside which is not listed in the itinerary to explore the local Tibetan lifestyle.

I highly recommend Great Tibet Tour and the guide Dajie if you would like to visit Tibet.

My son and I have been wanting to do this trip for several years and we finally got a chance to do it. It is a bit scary booking a tour thousands of miles away but Great Tibet Tour made it easy and helped every step of the way.

When we landed at the airport Dhargye (our guide) was there to pick us up. We found Dhargye to be an excellent guide. Dhangye was very knowledgeable about all the sights we went to and the Tibetan culture and history. He was even more knowledgeable about Buddhism. Besides that he was kind and funny. Our entire group enjoyed him as our guide.

We contacted several tour companies, before we settled with GTT. They always respond promptly, with an genuine interest o find solution to our enquiries. They are also flexible with payment. We didn't have to pay the remaining fee till we arrived at Lhasa. Our tour guide Lobsang was also great.. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic to help and has a happy, optimistic personality. We especially appreciate that he always took us to a local Tibetan eatery for lunch, where we mingle with local people. Pelnor was also a very good driver, with safety as top priority. We were very lucky to have them. We would recommend GTT to anyone interested a trip to Tibet.

Hello,
We just want to tell you how impressed we were with the service provided by your company. Ou special appreciation to both Lobsang (guide) and Sonam (driver). Lobsang went well over and beyond his call of duty by making sure we were always happy. For example, I was looking for one particular CD. Lobsang went with me to different stores to search for it. He came with us to restaurants to be sure we were not overcharged by merchants. And he helped us do our check in at the airport and explained to everyone of us all the details of our flight. These are only few examples of the numerous times Lobsang impressed us with his personal approach to customer service. We must also underline the remarkable quality of his English. It is outstanding to be able to speak so many languages with such ease.
As for Sonam, we always felt so safe with him. He also made sure we had enough water and was eager to help us with our luggages. He made sure we were always confortable in the van.
We can say without hesitation that Lobsang and Sonam are now our friends. We highly recommend them to your agency. For sure, the next group will be happy to be paired with them. The qaulity of the services this company provies are just amazaning.
Thank you very very much! 😀

Our first group tour and booked directly by internet was in itself adventurous for us. But Nance our email contact made it all work out smoothly. We also let her arrange traintickets from Chengdu to Lhasa for us. That train ride is highly recommended by the way. It’s an interesting experience (apart from the hideous toilet facilities, but that’s normal in China and Tibet outside your hotel) and good for your acclimatization status. Picked up by our guide in Lhasa Lobsang who took us to our hotel. He is a great guy with a lot of humor and hospitality. He even arranged a birthday party with cake and beer in EBC for one of our group members. He is also very knowledgeable about the things we encountered on our tour around Tibet. Plenty of bottled water was available throughout our tour as was emergency oxygen (remember that altitude sickness can be really dangerous !). We had the 4star option, and the hotels were very good by local standards. EBC is not very comfortable, but what can you expect? The mountain made it all worthwhil. Only the “guesthouse” at Namtso Lake was awful. Sleeping in a bed in a garage was terrible. Surprisingly the food they served there was okay. I think the Namtso Lake visit needs an upgrade or an alternative, because it made our otherwise great tour through Tibet end with a wrong feeling of a disappointing ending. Summarizing a good tour with e great guide and good driver. An amazing experience! Great Tibet Tours was great.

Dear Frank, Thank you for your sharing your Tibet tour and train experience with us! Due to limited regional conditions at Namsto Lake, the accommodation is not as good as other area in Tibet. We will advise the locals to improve their accommodation at Namsto Lake. Meanwhile, we will improve this itinerary and let our guests have better experience in Tibet. : ) I will tell Lobsang that his job was well done! Have a nice day! : )
