        Exceptionally organized Tibet Tour.
From start to finish, we enjoyed our trip to the fullest.Merry, our tour organizer was so helpful and accommodating, customised our private family tour with attractions of our interest and dates. Local Tour guide, Dhargie helped us to know so much history and facts about Lhasa.Vehicle provided was top quality and so was the driver Lhapa, a true gentleman. My son had lost his passport inbound to lhasa from Xining.Local tour Manager and Dhargie walked extra miles to sort the problem for us by going to different police offices and government offices. Thank you Great Tibet tour for organising our tour exceptionally well and I will definately recommend to my friends and relatives for their Tibet tour. Thank you to all the staffs at Great Tibet Tour. Purna Gurung &Family UK

Lhasa - a place not to be missed
All was amazing from helpful, attentive customer service at the start and whilst I was there it was just fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide, driver or group to share the experience with. The hotel was pleasant but the window was a little noisy and it might have been nicer to be closer to the Bakhor Street but saying this I did not raise it at the time because I was also very happy. I would recommend. Thank you again, Great Tibet Tour

        Touring Bhutan with the “BEST”
Right from the moment Pema and Dawa picked me up at the airport in Paro, to start my adventure in Bhutan, they showed me the warmth and hospitality that Bhutan is noted for. Bhutan is the Land of Gross National Happiness and Pema /Dawa lived , extended, and shared that culture with me in everything they did. Over the course of my 5 day visit, Pema/Dawa they repeatedly treated me as a member of their extended family not as a tourist/ client. This was very important to me and further reinforced Bhutan’s culture of pursuing HAPPINESS. This spirit continued as they showed me the magnificent sites Bhutan has to offer, but equally as important they shared their in depth knowledge in a simple and understanding way. Pema/Dawa enthusiastically responded to my questions to make sure I understood their answer but how proud they were of their heritage and culture. Their English was perfect and most understandable. I would welcome the opportunity to tour Bhutan with them again. Finally, Pema/Dawa went way above any other guides I previously had on my many trips.

        On Top of the World!
We had a wonderful time! Apart from the final guesthouse in Gyirong, where there was little hot water and barely any heat, everything was superbly arranged. You were so helpful in arranging the Tibet permit in a short time, and Tse Wang & Lobsang were excellent driver and guide who took such care of us, that I will always recommend your services to anybody who is thinking of travelling to this beautiful part of the world. Thank you, THANK YOU, for an unforgettable experience!

Great experience with Great Tibet Tour
I had great fun during my tour to Tibet. The tour was organized superbly. They helped me buy plane tickets much cheaper than on any search sites. I was met at the airport and taken to the hotel. The hotel is great. Many thanks to Beatrice for her patience, I bombarded her with questions and demands. I definitely recommend this company. Tibet is great, 100% worth to visit.

It was well organized, perfectly and professionally executed. Yadu was wonderful, our driver Rajees was a darling and our guides were such blessings along the way. The accommodations were just perfect - everything was amazing. I can't thank you enough for such a worry free experience. Definitely worth!! Great tour
The itinerary was well planned and hotels are reasonably good. Tour guide Lobsang and Lhakdon are pretty well verse and planned ahead to avoid the crowds, especially to Lhakdon for handling the visa at the border. She made sure we are safe and helped to communicate to the guide at Nepal. Thank you very much. Not to forget our patience and good navigation skill Driver, Mr Penpa. He always alerts and ensure our safety while driving on numerous hairpin turn. our safety is well taken care. Will recommend your services if given a chance. Tashi Delek to all, for making the trip safe and memorable.

        Great trip
Thanks, guys! We loved it. Loved the guide, who was a super nice Tibetan lady, and the driver. They showed us the place from the inside. Tibet is such a unique place! Nothing like that in the world. Top of the world. Also I wish we were more prepared for the high altitude, which didn't let us enjoy Tibet as much as we could've without the altitude sickness and the need for an oxygen tank :) The nature is stunning and the Tibet culture is transforming and disappearing. So go and see it now.

Also, the driver Panjor was excellent, we felt very safe, he was definitely doing a great job. Petra

A Trip That Helped Me Discover The Happiness Within
I planned my trip with Great Tibet Travels last year (2019) during July. This trip has changed my life for the better. The tour company and the tour guide Darghye were wonderful. During my 3 day trek, Darghye walked beside me to the most part and gave commentary. This man is knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about. Darghye kept an eye on all members on the tour and periodically asked us how we are doing altitude sickness wise. Remember while doing the trek, think positive and take baby steps and this may change your life for the better. Regarding the tour company they were kind enough to upgrade my hotel location at a couple of locations for no extra charge. Trek Planning - Fitness: I am a New Yorker and moderately fit. Before going on this trip, never in my life walked more than 5 miles a day. I started off with walking 9K to 10K steps per day at a moderate pace for a few weeks. I took it to the next level by walking around central park - this takes about 16K steps in about 3.5 hours and this I used to do every weekend. Since we lived in a high raised building, every day I used to climb stairs (sometimes 10 floors and sometimes 20 floors). Maybe a few times I walked on the treadmill in the Gym with inclination set to 14 for about 15 minutes. Trek Planning - Medication: I scheduled an appointment with my PCP - got the prescription for diamox and antibiotics. I also took with me tylenol, motrin, a miniverion of first aid kit. Trek Planning - General: You can read as much as you want on fitness but one should learn to know and listen to ones’ body. I carried some nuts and granola bars and do not forget ponchos Trek - Altitude Sickness: Diamox will do its job and you do your job. Remember to take it easy the first few days, no need to run or get excited, let me body adapt. My mantra initially was to walk like a snail, take small steps (remember to listen to your body and keep your mind in a positive state). I did get headaches and took tylenol.

        Amazing Tibet experience
My wife and I took the 7 day Lhasa-Mt. Everest-Kathmandu tour with Great Tibet Tour in early December. December although low season was actually a good time for a tour of Tibet. There were very few other western tourists and the temperature wasn’t as cold as I anticipated. The tour was amazing and we appreciate Great Tibet Tours for putting together such a smooth and exciting trip. Admittedly, it seems that most of the companies running tours in Tibet have same itinerary, we would run into other groups at the same restaurant, and the guides would hang out together. We only have the best things to say about Great Tibet Tours. The guide (Lopsang) and driver we’re friendly and knowledgeable, the hotels were excellent, and the itinerary was a good mix of culture/history and nature. We were the only ones to spend a frigid night at the Everest guest house once all the Chinese day trippers left. a very cold adventure! You do spend a lot of time in a vehicle on some but the scenery is incredible and you can stop whenever. You definitely need an experienced tour group to arrange the details as there are a lot of legal requirements traveling around Tibet . Thanks to Great Tibet Tours everything went smoothly. One last thing, although not technically part of the tour, the drive from the Nepal border to Kathmandu was definitely a highlight. Great Tibet Tours arranged a seamless transfer at the border. Nepal is totally different from Tibet and another reason to take this tour!

Fulfilled my thirty-year wish to see and experience Tibet
My visit to Lhasa was complete in every way and fulfilled my thirty-year wish to see and experience Tibet. Thank you and please extend my gratitude to all those in your organization who organized my visit. Transportation was always on time and was convenient and comfortable, thanks to driver Danzen. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the accommodation to Western breakfast food was appreciated. I am especially grateful for tour guide Danzen for his detailed knowledge and careful explanations in the monasteries we visited and the Potala Palace; the fact that he is a native Tibetan and a practicing Buddhist greatly enhanced our discussions and granted me the insights I had hoped this trip would provide; his discretion, patience, and enthusiasm were exceptional. While my visit was not a spiritual quest it was not a tourist quest for photos and souvenirs, and I have returned with a deeper sense of the place and the geography that your tour provided. While I was saddened by the sight of the “modernizations” that are taking place in Lhasa, I am grateful to have seen and experienced those aspects of Tibet I have studied in books for many years. James Due to age and other commitments, I will most likely not be visiting Tibet again, but I will surely recommend your company to my friends who are considering a tour. Thank you for a wonderful tour (at a reasonable price) with attentive and knowledgeable guides.

      May 2023
Our long-awaited trip to China and Tibet came to fruition via Nepal in May 2023. We had fully paid for a 2020 trip which was cancelled due to Covid, we ask Greattibettours to keep the money on account which was extended twice before we actually used it. It was an honor and a privilege to join two Asian college final year students and a young German seasoned traveler in this small group tour. My wife and I retirees were indeed in good company along with Lobsang our capable guide.
We were met by Lobsang at the Lhasa airport with a traditional greeting of draping a white silk scarf over our shoulders. We felt honored and the feeling never leave us for the entire trip. Lobsang is in the habit of reciting ‘Om mani padme hum’, and I would with great sincerity do the same, most memorable for me. Barkhor street is indeed a unique place with Jokhang Temple in the middle, it is a blessing just to be there and much blessed to do the kora. Lhasa itself is a huge modern city with high risers, but Barkhor is a very busy city within it, fascinating and awesome in its unique vibes. Indian food at Barkhor restaurants is delicious and same as you find in Nepal and India.
Visiting the Monasteries are an integral part of the visit to Tibet, walking up and down those stairs prepare you for Mt Everest and Kailash. We were comfortable with two Monasteries a day, this I think is a good test for Everest Base Camp, we did not use our oxygen tanks. Driving to Mt Everest we passed by multitudes of small farming communities, all colorful brick and concrete buildings, I was surprised by so much farming in Tibet.
We had a passport issue at Gyirong border crossing but Beatrice from Greattibettours made the transition to Nepal seamless for us and we also appreciate her great service. River View Hotel was great and the Jeep ride to Kathmandu was awesome, bompy and rock and roll which is expected with this kind of mountain terrain.
I would like to mention our stay in Chengdu during the intransit to Lhasa was surprisingly beatiful, we were not expecting to drive over some very beautiful bridges, through a floral park at night, and the Holiday Inn Chengdu Airport is immensely huge, we took picture at all four sides and corners, it is like a promenade garden and beautifully lighted, the facade is remarkable, a sight to behold.

I can hardly think of the right words to thank you for a fantastic vacation in Tibet. I’m sorting out my photos, souvenirs. I come across a tiny piece of paper or a receipt, I remember a wonderful place we went, some warm & friendly person we met or something fascinating that we saw in Tibet. Our guide Dargye is a good guide, he speaks English very well, and he has full knowledge of Buddhism and local culture. We learned a lot from him. Again, thank you for everything. I recommended Great Tibet Tour to my friends.

This was a fantastic trip, in Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan. Beatrice, the travel consultant was fantastic, very helpful, we corresponded for years, because initially the tour could not take place because of Covid. But she patiently guided me through all the arrangements that had to be made.

The actual tour in Tibet was great, we had a wonderful local guide, Lazhen, who was very knowledgeable, caring and very patient and courteous with some very difficult and unreasonable fellow travellers. She is a wonderful and admirable lady.

The two full days in Kathmandu, Nepal went smoothly to: transport from the border to the city and the tour with Mr. Shiva, who also was a great source of information and a wonderful person.

In Bhutan I had a private tour, with Guide Pema Tshewang and driver Dorji Phuntsho, two very likeable young men. Pema was a great source of information and a very caring person, especially as I had to often rest to get my breath back on the hike up to Tiger Nest Monastery near Paro! It has been a wonderful experience, all round.

I can warmly recommend this tour. Once again, thanks to all who made it so enjoyable.

I am a travel agent and we worked with Great Tibet tour. We booked one of their trip for one of our costumer. Client was really satisfy of the tour in general: organization, group and guide. Great Tibet Tour was very helpful with us, during the whole process, from the first enquiry to the confirmation. So I would say, very positive experience!

We received very good service since the second we considered booking. We had some questions and needed help with booking train tickets, getting Chinese visa and the Tibet permit. We got help immediately and felt in very safe hands.

The trip itself was amazing! Great guide and itinerary. A lot of driving but it was amazing to see sunrise at Everest. We can only recommend.

We joined this tour after we looked into a handful of others. During the 2 months prior to the trip, we have had constant communications with Amy. Naturally there were a lot of questions regarding Visa, accommodations, logistics (traveling also in Silk Road and Nepal). Amy was not only quick in responding - she is also extremely knowledgeable. She provided extremely valuable insights for us to plan this trip well. She was always honest and upfront and never over promised.

The tour itself was excellent - the natural beauty of Tibet is unquestionable. While this is not a trip with 5 star hotels, the accommodations were relatively good and comfortable. The driver was safe and responsible. Julia, our tour guide was well prepared and explained things in great details. While not native speaker - her english is good. Throughout the trip, she took care of us and helped navigated a lot of requests and we felt we could trust her opinion because she was honest.

The one-week tour of Tibet, from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and back, for my wife and myself, was the culmination of a self-organized trip through China, and it was definitely the highlight. Travelling to Tibet is difficult to organize, but "Great Tibet Tour" (GTT) did an excellent job and at a very competitive price. Merry at GTT responded instantly to our (many) questions, in perfect English, and provided a lot of useful advice (e.g. bringing ample Yuan cash). The mutual trust from both sides was much appreciated: our train tickets were delivered to our hotel in Beijing by courier, and the Tibet travel permits (which are by necessity a last-minute procurement) were sent to us by e-mail, just a few days before entering Tibet, but it all came together in time. In return, Merry had to trust us to deliver 50% of the tour cost in USD cash, in Lhasa.
The 21-hour train from Xining to Lhasa is highly recommended - a great experience, in a soft-sleeper berth (4 bunk beds), and tremendous views. Bring your own food and water. We took the 11pm departure, which is recommended because you wake up when the scenery is starting to be at its best. We had no trouble with altitude sickness on the train, nor during the whole week in Tibet, despite being at 5,200 metres in altitude several times. This may well be because we took Acetazolamide as a preventative dose, the entire time. We were in a group of just 3 tourists, plus an English-speaking guide (Tenzing) for the whole week. The guide was very nice, had an excellent knowledge of Tibetan culture and religious practice, and made the trip even more rewarding.
The overnight accommodation at EBC is, at present (October 2023), in Tibetan "guest houses", which was very cold and basic, but travelling all the way to EBC is the trip of a lifetime and very much worth it! (I am over 70, so age is not a barrier). The tourists in Tibet, at present, are nearly 100% mainland Chinese, so be aware of Chinese holiday seasons, because of the crowds.
We will definitely recommend GTT to others, and Tibet as a travel destination.

Definitely a trip to tick off the bucket list. Our tour guide Dhargye was very knowledgeable and gave our tour group a great insight into Tibet and it's culture!

In general, I would rate the trip 8/10 and recommend it.
Operator (Beatrice): super helpful and accommodating.
      Tour guide: very knowledgeable
Itinerary: reasonable, but it would have been great if we could have done some outdoor activities to see more of the Himalayas.
Hotels: nice and clean room, good location, but the breakfasts were boring with few options.
