  • China Visa: if you fly or take a train to Lhasa from one city of China, you need have your China L Visa in advance.
  • Tibet Group Visa: if you fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu, you don't need China L Visa, but you need apply for your Tibet Group Visa from China Embassy in Kathmandu. Before that, you need the invitation of Tibet Group Visa from Tibet tour supplier.
  • Please note that you will only be allowed to enter Tibet with a Tibet travel permit. Your local tour operator will help you apply for a Tibet permits (usually need at least 12 days), but be sure you have a passport which is valid for at least 6 months.
  • A copy of your Tibet travel permit will be sent to you in advance or the original permit will be delivered to you at your place in China.
  • Travelers are required to provide photocopy of passports and China L visas in advance
  • Price is based on double occupancy. Single room supplement is subject to availability and additional charge

Bahnfahren wie in einer schlechten Jugendherberge

Ich bewerte hier nur die Bahnfahrt, in meinem Fall von Lhasa nach Xian. Diese Fahrt dauert rund 33 Stunden (mit einer Übernachtung im Zug). Das eine lange Bahnfahrt kein Vergnügen ist, hatte ich mir gedacht, aber diese Bahnfahrt werde ich niemals wieder machen und hätte sie nicht gemacht, wenn ich gewußt hätte, wie katastrophal die Zustände sein würden. Es gibt grundsätzlich nur 2 Reiseklassen. Ich hatte die bessere
"sogenannte Erste Klasse" gebucht. In der besseren Klasse gibt es 4er Abteils mit Stockbetten (zwei links und zwei rechts). Die Abteile sind sehr klein. Grössere Koffer müssen auf dem Gang bzw. beim Ein-/Ausstieg gestapelt untergestellt werden. Die "Betten" sind unbequem und unsauber. Die "frischen" Bettdecken werden vom Personal auf dem Fußboden gefaltet und auf die Betten gelegt. Man sitzt in den kleinen Abteilen sehr unbequem und es ist stickig. Das Personal meidet die Fahrgäste und schließt sich bsw. überwiegend im Speisewagen ein. Das Essen dort ist unterschiedlich. Mal gibt es gar nichts oder der Wagen ist geschlossen, mal gibt es relativ erträgliche Kost, Speisekarte aber nur auf chinesisch! Die Fenster sind dreckig und der Zug hält überwiegend nur sehr kurz an unattraktiven Bahnhöfen. Die sanitären Anlagen sind katastrophal. Duschen gibt es gar nicht, normale Toiletten wenige, dazu einige "Bodentoiletten", also eine Zelle mit Loch im Boden. Es gibt kein Toilettenpapier, da dieses mitgebracht werden muß. Die Reise, die teilweise durch hübsche bzw. interessante Landschaften führt kann kaum genossen werden, da die Fenster klein und verdreckt sind. Tische als Ablage oder zum Kartenspielen etc. gibt es kaum. Der ganze Zug scheint etwa 30-40 Jahre alt zu sein und ist entsprechend verwohnt. Trotzdem ist (fast) jeder Platz ausgebucht. Der Zug ist also brechend voll und vollkommen auf chinesische Gäste ausgelegt. Tickets sollten 6 Wochen im voraus gebucht werden.
Eine anstrengende und lästige Fahrt. Man ist heilfroh, wenn die Zugfahrt endlich beendet ist.
