We've always been curious with how epic it would be to visit Tibet and also the majestic Mountain Everest which we found out later in the trip that it's originally called Qomolangma by the Tibetan. So it was only the four of us in the trip, and when we arrived in Lhasa, Tibet, our guide Tsedon (we usually called her Taerina) was waiting for us outside the airport building. She was so warm and also looking very excited with the fact that we arrived; we loved her vibe instantly. Our guide was very thorough and detailed in explaining about the history of Tibet, their culture, their lifestyles, their food and basically every questions we had in mind that we asked her, she could answer them right away. And she takes great care in recommending local restaurants and hotels so that we get only the best service and exactly what we asked for. We highly recommend Tsedon as a guide and Penba as our driver for any visits to all parts of Tibet, and you won't be disappointed!!

First of all, thank you to Chloe the travel agent whom assisted us from the beginning and was always so quick answering our questions. Second, our guide Kumchok and driver Tashi, seriously no better company we could have asked for. I got extremely sick with altitude sickness the first 2 nights of the tour (which thankfully we had 2 free days in Lhasa), and Kumchok came to our room (and we didn't even ask him to come) to bring us a big oxygen tank, which made me feel SO MUCH BETTER after getting oxygen directly through my nostrils for about 30minutes or so. It was his free day and he still came to assist me. Let alone Tashi, our driver, who drives kilometers in Tibet that was always so kind and ALWAYS trying to open the car door, even though he didn't need to. The hospitality, the knowledge of the guide, the flexibility of our tour was exceptional. Always punctual, and liked how they gave us a kit with reusable water bottles for a more eco-friendly trip, even though plastic water bottles were always provided. Kumchok was always prompt in his actions and would always make us feel comfortable. Provide and ask us anything we needed every time. We will never forget this amazing trip and I really hope next time we visit Tibet they will be guiding us once again, because we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for everything, wish you guys all the best!

Had the best Tibet experience! Nothing disappointed me, the place, the people and culture all fascinating! Our guide Pasang was also the best! Unfortunately we couldn’t finish the itinerary due to corona virus and government shutting down places like Everest 😩 so we had to return earlier than expected. Even so the experience was amazing and the agency will refund us the money for the days we missed. Highly recommend the agency and especially our tour guide Pasang! Thanks for all

Obtaining the permit for the trip was very last minute. I got the permit through TibetVista the day before the actual tour date. Since the permit was granted so last minute, it would not be delivered to me in time. I had to have it delivered to me in Chengdu and stay overnight in a hotel and have the permit delivered to me there. Here is the first issue with TibetVista. The travel service agreement I signed stated that permit delivery within China mainland is included in the trip fees... however, they charged me 400RMB (~80CAD) to have it delivered to me in Chengdu. The representatives I spoke to about this fee even guilted me, saying they are just trying to make my dream to go to Tibet a reality and I shouldn't ask for the 400RMB delivery fee to be waived.

The second problem with TibetVista is that the agent I was working with told me that there were no other travellers on the group tour that wanted to share a room and I would have to pay an extra 840RMB (~170CAD) as a single room supplement fee. This was in the contract that if there were no other travellers to share, you would have to pay. So that was okay. HOWEVER, upon talking to other travellers in the tour group, it turns out there were at least 4 other people (if not more) that were told the same thing... that there was no one else that wanted to share a room and we were all being charged the single room fee.

The unexpected and unreasonable fees that TibetVista snuck into an already pricey tour is unacceptable. I would not recommend booking a tour to Tibet with this company.

The only reason this is 2/5 rather than 1/5 for the experience is because Tibet is incredible and the tour guide Tashi was extremely knowledgeable and made visiting Tibet an unforgettable experience.

To summarize, definitely go to Tibet because it is an amazing experience... but don't book with TibetVista because you'll be paying unexpected fees on top of an already pricey trip.

This was an incredible trip! Our guide Jigme and Mr Ni the driver were exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable. We came excited to see and visit Tibet, we leave a little more knowledgeable, in awe and wholly inspired to return again in the future.
Highlights included all the monasteries and stories, Everest Base Camp of course was once in a lifetime, but just visiting and seeing the local culture and meeting such wonderful people- we were truly spoiled! Highly recommended and we definitely will be back again!

Well what can I say... this is such a beautiful place to visit - definitely recommend it to everyone! Every Tibetan view was truly breathtaking 😍 I’m still very, very sad that we couldn’t make it to Everest Basecamp (circumstances out of our control in and around China) but perhaps another time in the near future. Our tour guide KonChok really made this tour such a fun and interesting experience. He was extremely knowledgeable and kept us safe during our travels. Thanks again! 🙏

Unforgettable trip in Tibet. Jigme, our guide and Sima, the driver made us feel like second home. Jigme has great knowledge about the Tibetan and Buddhism history so you can rely on him on any cultural and religious questions.
He made always sure we were comfortable and explains in details our program for the day.
My favourite was definitely seeing the monk chanting at Tashilunpo Monastery and the sunset at the Everest Base Camp.
The hotels and meals were great also.
I will never forget my first experience in Tibet, the Holy Land !

This trip was fantastic. After covid, it was quite hard getting a permit for Tibet. However the staff at Tibet Vista were persistent and did everything in their power to get the permit for me. On the trip, our tour guides were greatly informative and taught me lots about Tibetan Buddhism. Food was great and accomodation also. Would definitely recommend 🌞

recently booked a 7 days tour with Tibet Vista - From beginning the represent was very pushy to collect money after then no follow up with any document handled - until arrived in Lhasa, was placed in parking lot in standing to wait for others arrival for 4.5 hours without food and area to rest - then.. all the hotel were arranged like 1* NO elevator, got to carry your heavy luggage up to 3rd floor... no WiFi...the worst would be in EBC, no showroom & toilet, just a room with 2 open space each with 2 plywood and a deep hole for squash stingy toilet - tour guide was no sense for any passengers' high attitude sickness or care! Tour guide seems more like a spy for the government in following than a real Tour Guide !!!!
think careful before you put your money down on this company - not only you would have hardship in the journey and your might risk your life without any care!

Tibet Vista is Extremely Unprofessional

***WARNING: THE TOUR COMPANY WON’T SUPPLY YOU WITH LOST PERSONAL EFFECTS FORMS TO FILL OUT TO SUBMIT TO TRAVEL INSURANCE COMPANIES.*** While trying to get my paperwork in order to submit to my insurance company, the Tibet Vista office refused to send me an email stating they don’t have these forms since they “couldn’t vouch that I had actually lost items on my trip.” They said the tour guide should be able to write down what I had lost on a piece of paper and that should be enough, but they clearly don’t understand how insurance companies actually work. While trying to sort this out I was actually interrupted and yelled at several times by Mr. Gong Ga, the customer service representative. My tour guide, Niyma, then spoke to the office and they told him they had one but didn’t want to give it to me because “they were scared about getting in trouble.” They also refused to let me file a report with a police station, so I was just SOL. What makes matters worse is after this entire fiasco, they continually left the bus unlocked and unattended with all of our belongings inside and wrote me off when I brought this to their attention.

I've lived in China for five years. I'm extremely self-capable when it comes to maneuvering around the country and understanding how businesses work here. A friend recommended Tibet Vista after she finished a trip with them in 2018. I found their Wechat official account and reached out. Nothing. That's fine--found their email and got a quick response. My main point of contact was their sales representative Derek. He added me on Wechat and we began to discuss the trip.

At the time I was making the trip solo. I paid via Alipay, a local online payment platform similar to Venmo or Paypal. They didn't send me a company Alipay account which made me hesitate a bit. Other tourism companies have also offered a 2% discount if you pay in their local currency. I asked if they would do this and they LOLed. I guess they're used to foreigners paying in foreign currencies and don't get these requests often. Again, not a big deal. But since they're a Chinese tourism company their Wechat and Alipay systems should be up to par. Other tour companies allow you to book tours and pay within their Wechat official account. Their accountant wasn't in direct communication with Derek and I had to show him I paid via a screenshot. It would come across a lot more professional should they update all their payment systems. They also sent me a picture of the invoice instead of actually giving me a physical one. Copies don’t carry any weight in China. They know this, but I think they were hoping that I wouldn’t so they could work their books a bit come tax time. I would have liked their payment system to come across more professionally.

We were fine up until this point. Communication was quick, questions were answered, and tour was booked. As soon as I paid, Derek’s responses became much more slow and required a lot more prodding. He only sprung back to attention as soon as I mentioned that my friend may join me on the trip. I inquired about the 5% discount offered if a friend joins. “Why do you want 5% off? That’s such a small amount of money that it doesn’t even matter,” Derek said. “If you offer it, you should honor it,” I said. “Yes, yes, of course you’ll get 5% off if your friend books her tour through us,” Derek agreed reluctantly. My friend booked her tour.

24 hours passed. 48 hours passed. Nothing. 72 hours passed. “It’s the weekend, we’ll handle the 5% discount on Monday,” Derek said, after several messages. Monday came. Derek acted like he didn’t understand what the 5% off was for. I had to screenshot their website and show him where it listed the discount. Didn’t hear back from him. Called Mr. Gong Ga, the customer service representative. He said he’d speak to the necessary people. Derek finally reached back out. “Get the discount in Lhasa from Mr. Gong Ga. I don’t have the money today,” he said. Now I was furious. He’d run me in circles for almost a week. “Refund me by the end of today like you promised or a negative review goes up on TripAdvisor,” I threaten. Got the money back instantly.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking, it’s only 5%. But it’s the principle. If a company offers something, they should freely follow up on that offer without having to be asked twice. If they don’t, that’s false advertising. The customer shouldn’t have to wait almost a week or have to threaten a negative review in order to be compensated.

I also don’t like that both Derek and Mr. Gong Ga both asked me my nationality before being willing to negotiate the tour price and answer my questions. If all customers are treated the same, then why even ask? I felt like they were gauging prices and negotiation tactics on my being American.

For complete transparency, I booked the 8 day, 7 night tour for $100 off the $850 price since I didn’t want to stay at their offered hotels in Lhasa. Then I was given 5% off for having a friend join. My friend paid $700 for 7 days, 6 nights. She joined the tour a day late and left a day early. We paid in CNY.

As for the trip itself. It was complete chaos. The tour company didn’t account for Chinese New Year. We didn’t even get to several things listed on the itinerary. We waited in lines for the palace and temples for hours but they closed off the lines before we got in to any of them. The bus dropped us off at a lunch place that was closed and we had to find one on the street. Because of Tibet Vista’s poor management we had to wake up at 4:30am one morning to wait in line for three hours in the freezing cold to get into the palace before sitting in a bus all day. We’d drive for eight hours only to find a place closed. The killer was getting to the Everest National Park and finding out it was closed. TIBET VISTA: When you’re a tour company you need to account for holidays and plan accordingly. You need to call places beforehand and make sure they’re open. Instead I got to spend a week sitting on a bus.

The real kicker is that my friend and I found out that the temples were free during the holiday which accounted for the hours-long waits, but the tour company expected us not to know this since the majority of the people on the trip didn’t speak Chinese. When I asked for temple refunds, Niyma said, “Don’t tell the others because this is how I make my money.” I have this in writing. Tibet Vista, why don’t you pay your employees enough instead of asking us to tip them $7/day so your employees don’t feel like they have to steal from us. And for all of you who are new to China, it is not customary to tip here. Sure, if someone provides great service you’ll leave the change or might throw them a little something extra, but a standard % is not expected or required of you.

Our tour guide Niyma has been doing this job for ten years. You would think this would make him a pro, but really it just made him jaded. It’s evident that he’s not loving his work but doesn’t feel like there’s an out. I read Seven Years in Tibet and had to fact-check several things he said that didn’t align with the book. When walking through temples, other tour guides would be talking non-stop with golden nuggets of information, but he’d just walk us through the place and occasionally point something out. His ethos as a decade-long tour guide destroyed.

TL;DR: If you’re already in China, Tibet is worth a visit. Go in the spring or summer and book a private tour. Do NOT book with Tibet Vista. 0 redeeming qualities.

LPT: book your own hotels in Lhasa. The Shangri-la (their oxygen lounge!) and St. Regis are what you need after all the planes, trains and buses. Bring a Pulse Oximeter machine to track your blood oxygen levels and go to the hospital for prescription meds before you touch down in Tibet.
