About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- _most_discerning20 contributionsAn excellent, friendly, courteous agency - value for moneyBeing first-timers to Macau we opted to use this Agency. Tour was excellently arranged from Hotel pick up to specially arranged drop off. Their agent STEPHANIE was outstanding, including arranging for the group to visit the Tai Hang Fire Dragon. Thank you.Written September 22, 2024
- Piseu0 contributionsAfternoon Lantau and Monestery Tour is Great! We had a wonderful guide for this afternoon tour. We found it through the Concierge at The JW Marriott. The tour arrived to pick us up earlier than was told us but it was fine nd all worked out. The tour takes you to The NGong Ping Cable Car and that was really fun with great views as we ascended toward the Great Buddha. The nice thing was that the tour dropped us at the base so we did not have to walk up the 400 steps to get there. We had a tour inside and then had ample opportunity for photos and views outside. Then it was on to PO Lin Monastery which was very beautiful with a lot to see. From there it was on to TAI O Fishing Village which was very authentic and fun to walk through. After a great afternoon with a wonderful guide we took the ferry back to Hong Kong. This tour was a wonderful way to get out of the city and experience more of a rural setting and see interesting sites. Highly recommended!Written February 7, 2020
- madrunnerm0 contributionsOrientation TourTook this tour with guide Terry, she was informative and humorous and did a great job. The tour itself starts off with location visits but includes a jewelry salesroom which was ok, I personally did not think it held must relevance for an orientation tour... great day, on time, well run and recommended.Written September 21, 2019
- maripazm20150 contributionsEXTREMELY RUDE ! - HK ISLAND 1/2 dayMy mother and I took this tour the past 14th of July. The tour guide (it was a women with black hair do not remember her name) make us feel like if we were in a kinder garden for babies, she was scolding us every five minutes about everything. When we asked her to clarify us some info we didn’t quite get she told us “you were talking i can not repeat the information twice, i think you do not understand english well, i can give you the brochure” this was obviously a lie because we were paying attention. She was rude and always on a hurry, even asking for the bathroom was a problem for her (it was a challenge being pregnant on this tour) Then they took us to a fish villa where we took a boat AND YOU NEED TO PAY EXTRA MONEY and you have no option (staying on the bus alone maybe) also they make a ridiculous stop in a JEWLERY store... if we wanted to buy jewelry we can do it other time not in our only full day in HK (it doesn’t even appear on the itinerary). And last but not least, the 15th of July we took the Lantau Island Tour with a tour guide that has a very low voice and zero attitude to be a tour guide, we could not understand him anything he was saying. That same day , the tour guide (woman from last day tour) appeared at the end of the day, she woke me up touching my arm being EXTREMELY RUDE with my mother and I, scolding us again and yelling me that SHE NEEDED TO SPEAK TO ME BECAUSE MY MOTHER DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HER... she screamed to us that if we were on the back of the bus that they can not take us to our hotel. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!Written July 15, 2019
- Connie G0 contributionsGreat TourWe signed up for the Hong Kong Island Orientation Tour and found this to be a most informative tour. Our tour guide, Terri, was so knowledgeable and found that each stop on the tour perfect. We learned so much on our 5-hour tour and enjoyed every minute of the tour. I am only sorry we did not have more time to enjoy more of the tours offered by Splendid Tours & Travel. I give this company my highest recommendation.Written May 27, 2019
- MalcH0 contributionsExcellentDecided to use Splendid for the day tour of Lantau and they were excellent from start to finish. Picked up on time, plenty of room on the bus and more importantly plenty of time at all the stops. Our guide (Ben ??) was excellent giving a nice insight into the history and culture and some personal anecdotes along the way. Not the cheapest but well worth the money for a fabulous day out.Written May 9, 2019
- olliverj0 contributionsVery late and Missed a Tour StopWe had a pretty bad experience with Splendid Tours and Travels, booking a half-day (afternoon ) tour in Hong Kong. The only reason it gets two stars is that stops we made were interesting, but the overall rating is generous.... First, the bus was 15 minutes late picking us up for a 4 to 5 hour tour. The big bus was empty, which we quickly determined was because we were the first of MANY hotel pickups. After an hour of seeing many hotels we finally got on the road only to be snarled in bad traffic everywhere we went. It was so bad that we totally missed one of the four stops (one we wanted to see!) and returned to the hotel not at 5:30 or 6:30 as promised, but, after dropping off everyone else arriving after 8 p.m., totally missing the hotel bar happy hour which ended at 8 (and we very much looked forward to attending). That delay alone cost me over $80 in additional cost. At least two couples had to exit the bus early to get a cab for reservations elsewhere. Sure, there was traffic, but don't you think a reputable tour company would have known about it. And was there any offer of a partial refund or other compensation. Not a word. Very disappointing!!!Written April 20, 2019
- 842haraldk0 contributionsNice afternoon to the peak and Hong Kong IslandWe had a nice minibus group tour to the Peak and Hong Kong Island. The Peak had great view and our guide was excelent. Part of the trip was not that good organized. We was almost (5 minutes walk from the Hotel) at the hotel when the bus driver decieded to drive the opposite way to let of another couple so we was sitting in the bus waiting for almost 20 minutes because of rush trafic.Written March 24, 2019
- peterdG2287SY0 contributionsHong Kong orientation tour.We were disappointed in this tour. Our guide was nice and quirky. But the actual tour is a trap. The look out point is nice and spectacular, but the Sampan ride (which is not included) and the jewelry store are blatantly exploitative. I would have liked to see more of Hong Kong without feeling like I am being shepherded into a forced retail trap. The sampan trip cost $60 extra per person with no alternatives. You have 2 choices pay and go or stay and wait. Our skipper was not helpful either. She literally went through the motions with a massive dose of apathy. The jewelry place has spectacular pieces, but we didn’t want any jewelry. Would have liked more focus on the artisans and less on the sale of pieces. My suggestion to management is to change the tour to a more sights oriented tour with less shepherding into retail traps.Written February 21, 2019
- 798JohnC0 contributionsA grand tour with one problemThis company gave us a good tour that covered many of the notable features of Hong Kong. The English speaking guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting information with our group of eighteen. The downside was a visit to a local jewelry company. This was supposedly an educational visit but the group was subjected to high pressure salespeople who tried to get us to buy one of their designer pieces of jewelry. This was no fun and frankly should not be a part of the tour.Written February 3, 2019
- GraftMadisonR0 contributionsHong kong island tourSubpar tour at best. Lots of wasted time. You have to pay extra for the boat ride which should just be included in the tour price. The longest stop was at a jewelry store which they bill as a place to see the jewelry made. You quickly walk by a couple of guys working (or on their phones) then they shepard you into the store. Save your time and money.Written January 3, 2019
- Tiberiu_Baranyi0 contributionsTours - a very good optionAfter arrival to Hong Kong (HK for simplicity) we checked in to the hotel and we were very happy to find the Splendid tours booth in the hotel lobby (they have a small booth in the lobby of Novotel hotel on Nathan road - otherwise you can look for them in the Sheraton building at no. 20 Nathan road). They have full day and 1/2 day tours in HK, day have trips to mainland China and also to Macau. Highlights: - the agents were speaking very good English and were very helpful in terms of explaining and giving recommendations about the tours. - prices we found them good - just to give you a little insight we were looking up several options to get to Macau - and still when you draw the line the pricing from Splendid was very good (in comparison with what we found). - guides on the tours very knowledgeable in the subjects they were presenting - both in HK and Macau. - we have booked 2 tours with them - Lantau island tour a half day tour (our guide Rene - she was amazing - great job), Macau full day tour - once more great work from the guide... We had a very good time on both the tours we booked. - if you need visa - for Hong Kong, Macau and/or China - they have this service - so you can contact them in advance to your trip. - they were on time for every tour - so if the time for pickup was set for 11:55 - they came to pick you up at 11:55 (for those of you who know the traffic HK this can give you a hint). - Wi-fi available on all the busses Splendid was transporting you with. Overall very good value for money and great guide work - I recommend this agency.Written December 25, 2018
- ashley_southbay0 contributionsWonderful tour during my 11 hour layover!I had an 11 hour layover and contacted Splendid Tours the day before and was able to be added to the 5 hour tour which included a fishing village, the cable car, and Big Buddha! I don’t usually like or do group tours but this was so easy it was worth it. It was SO worth it! They picked me up at the airport (a hotel lobby which stored my luggage) and served a HUGE vegetarian lunch. Guide was super helpful despite herding our group of about 12. Busses were nice and clean. Overall, highly recommend!Written December 10, 2018
- N3673OUdavidr0 contributionsRace day toursAs a group of 12 we used splendid tours for the Wednesday Happy Valley Race night and the Sunday Sha Tin Race day. First the good the tour leader Joanna was very knowledgeable, hard working and ready to help at all times. The venues and areas we were in were very nice, food was first rate and drinks were never in short supply. Now the bad those doing the organising of getting to and from both venues have sploit this by their mismanagement of time of pick up on the Wednesday as we missed Race 1 and just got there for Race 2. Secondly on the Sunday it was we were forced to leave before the last or find your own way back to your accommodation. Both are not acceptable to customers who flying a long way spending a good deal of money to these outstanding race meetings. Therefore as a group we will now be sourcing an alternative next year for these race days.Written December 9, 2018
- swimjohn180 contributionsLantau and Monastery Tour - Airport Layover TourI arrived in Hong Kong early in the morning with a long layover. I wanted to begin adjusting timezones and get out of the airport for some activity. I normally don't like the tour bus experience...and this was no exception so I tried not to let that lower my rating too much (and if you like this type of tour, I expect that you'd give it 4 or 5 stars). However, it certainly met my expectations and allowed me to see a new part of Hong Kong and take full advantage of my layover. The meeting site at the hotel (at the airport) was easy to find and everything ran on-time. Left Luggage was easy to use available in the airport. Tour guides English was good, but I still strained a little to hear him. The information provided throughout was useful and interesting. The sites visited were all worthwhile...although a little bit of unnecessary walking through the village. The food was interesting for the lunch; I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetarian tofu concoctions, but there was plenty of food to fill up. High winds prevented us from taking the "ski lift" back down from the Big Budda, so we were bused back. This was slightly disappointing, if nothing else because there was no refund for the change. But we got back to the airport on schedule, important for the onward flight. Overall, a reasonable way to spend a layover.Written November 28, 2018
