About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- adelstoc0 contributionsBrilliant intro to Hong Kong with fun and engaging guideIvan was our guide this morning. He was born in Kowloon and knows the city, culture and history inside out. He met us at our hotel, explained the MTR to us and off we went to Central. Ivan engaged both my husband, three kids (aged 11, 8 and 5) and me with fascinating history about HK and other cultural topics such as feng shui and religious traditions. He was friendly, personable and completely present. We visited an outdoor market where the kids loved seeing meat and fish being sliced and diced fresh. We went to an old temple where the kids got to make a prayer with incense, we tried some delicious French toast and a hybrid iced coffee tea! We learnt quite a bit about the history of HK as a colony. Three hours was perfect for little legs, however if it’s older kids or adults in your party I’d recommend booking Ivan for longer. Even after three hours the tour left us all feeling more confident to navigate HK alone. Ivan left us with restaurant tips for the kids and other itinerary recommendations. A truly worthwhile private tour that I highly recommend.Written January 10, 2020

- sw197le0 contributionsSoon again, pleaseBooking the tour and getting to the meeting place was super easy. They even would have picked me up from my hotel but as I know Hong Kong a bit I opted for a meeting place in the New Territories. Maggie has been a wonderful tour guide with a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoyed learning so much about Hong Kong, past and present, and seeing placing which as a normal tourist you would seldom. Maggie was very flexible and always made sure that my personal interest were met.Written July 25, 2019
- 156gerardm0 contributionsGreat tour with IvanEarly June we spent 8 days in Hong Kong. We arrived Friday night and I had booked a Big Foot Walking tour of Kowloon for the next day, so we could get an idea of how to get around HK from the start of our holiday. We met Ivan at our hotel at 12 noon and he spent the next 4 hours showing us a part of the world that he knows so well. He showed us how to get an Octopus card, then how to navigate the MTR rail system. That was so handy for the rest of our trip as we used it daily. Ivan was very patient and so informative about the area and history of Kowloon. We walked, caught trains and had a lovely local lunch. Wasn’t cheap, but money well spent and it made the rest of of stay so easy. Happy to recommend Ivan as not only was he very professional but he was a very nice young man and no questions were too stupid and nothing was too much trouble. Cheers.Written July 22, 2019
- Vicki860010 contributionsday tour with IvanMy daughter and I had an 18 hour layover in Hong Kong en route to South Africa. I decided to hire a tour guide...and boy am I glad I did. Ivan gave us a great 4 hour tour of the city. It was perfect. I loved how he took us to a small, local restaurant...and guided us on what and how much to order. He catered his tour to what we wanted to do. He was very flexible. My daughter loved the outdoor escalator. I enjoyed the temple. He was great with translating Hong Kong prices into US dollars so we could better understand local real prices. He gave a very interesting tour. What could have been a very intimidating experience in a foreign city, turned out to be a very enjoyable and laid back time. I highly recommend Ivan! Thanks so much for a wonderful tour of beautiful Hong Kong!Written July 22, 2019

- danwalmsley0 contributionsA Hong Kong AdventureHad a fantastic time exploring Hong Kong Island with Ivan on a 4 hour walking tour. I learned about the history of the city while walking through the busy streets with a stop at a serene Taoist temple along the way. I definitely discovered a whole new side to Hong Kong (Ivan also showed us some fantastic dining options, make sure you ask about them!). I would highly recommend this tour!Written June 18, 2019
- 986barbarae0 contributionsIvan is #1 GuideOur recent trip to Hong Kong was made very special by the 4 hours we spent exploring Kowloon with Ivan. I am quite sure we would never have discovered all of these fascinating parts of Kowloon without Ivan and certainly not in just 4 hours. We used public transit and saw traditional Hong Kong and modern day Hong Kong. Ivan answered all of our questions and we would definitely hire him for additional tours of this magical place.Written June 16, 2019

- GregRNYC0 contributionsA great way to learn about Hong Kong history and food!My wife and I had a great time touring Hong Kong with Celia. She was energetic and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Hong Kong history, geography, local culture, local traditions and of course food. Celia took us to all the local spots and helped us order the best things on the menu. We even had snake soup! The tour was a lot of fun and Celia adjust it to fit your preferences. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting HK!Written May 6, 2019

- 535michellev0 contributionsWould do it againJust this one tour got us up to speed with knowing Hong Kong. Our guide was fantastic, listened to what we liked and tailored the walk. She was spot on with what she showed us, and her knowledge was fantastic. She also introduced us to a whole lot of things to explore on our own in ensuing days. The additional help in showing us local places close to us was great as well.Written April 2, 2019
- eileenr5280 contributionsIvan was a wonderful guide and made our Hong Kong visit very memorableIvan took us in a 4 hour walking tour which included the new and the old parts of Hong Kong. He was very knowledgeable but without overloading us with too much information. Also, he was essential in in introducing us to travelling on the MTR which proved a godsend for our other couple of days. He gave us good ideas of places to go that we hasn’t covered on our tour. If you only have a few days in Hong Kong do book this tour it will make the rest of your visit so much better. Many thanks, Ivan for such an informative and interesting day.Written April 1, 2019
- Monica S0 contributionsLoved Hong Kong!We had a 7 hour layover in Hong Kong and thought we'd use that time to explore the city! Our guide, Maggie, was so friendly and knowledgeable, we truly enjoyed our time with her! She took us all over the city on foot, from Michellin stared Dim Sum in the train station, to the beautiful waterfront, to the midlevels, to different vibrant street markets, and gorgeous temples...we really got a great feel for the city in just 4 hours. The day was a highlight of our whole trip and so glad we had the opportunity to do it!Written March 7, 2019

Our guide Maggie was wonderful. I worked with Ski to set up 2 private tours: Kowloon and Real Hong Kong Tour. Both were excellent. I only wanted half-day tours, and both were perfect for us – 4 hours walking around Hong Kong in the heat and humidity was a lot, but Maggie was great! Very informative, a kind, caring person we enjoyed getting to know her, and her life in Hong Kong. Would book with this company again, truly wonderful!

Our guide, Maggie, was superlative. We went with her for a walking tour of the mid-levels in Hong Kong and learned so much. Her depth of knowledge was incredible. She explained culture, architecture, food and religion. She took us to a tiny tea shop that we would never have found with the guide books and we were able to try the superlative Hong Kong French toast. We traveled past open air markets and she explained how the butchers and the fish mongers were selling their foods. We got to see the dried foods; from dried squid to dried sea cucumbers to dried fruits. Fascinating! Maggie expanded our horizons so much with her stories and facts. She was so pleasant. I thought that we had 'done' Hong Kong in the few days before going on a tour with Maggie. We found out that we had just scratched the surface. Our only regrets are that we did not go out with Maggie earlier in our stay and that we only went for a few hours. Thank you, Maggie!

Thank you, Charyl R, for allowing us to share with you our passion for Hong Kong. Yes, Maggie certainly has lots of enthusiasm! She has been in the travel industry for more than 25 years and always fancy meeting travelers who are keen to to have an insider look into her city! Did you have a good Dim Sum lunch after the tour? We hope you like the view at the Peak too, especially at our secret spot. It's definitely one of our favourite places for a panorama view of Hong Kong's charming skyline!
Psst.. For tips on beating the crowd to Victoria Peak, you can find the article link at our blog. More details on our main website and Facebook Page (bigfoottour).

We only had 3 full days in Hong Kong, so we decided that a tour would hopefully help us use our time wisely.
Correspondence with Ski prior to arriving was great. She was very responsive and sent very detailed directions on how to meet up with our guide, Maggie.
Maggie took us around Central Business Area on our first day there for the 4 hour tour. She gave us a brief overview of Hong Kong history prior to beginning our walk. She took us all over! She was incredibly knowledgeable and no questions were off limits. Never having been to Asia before, we had loads of questions and she answered every single one, giving great insight with every answer. The tour was more like walking around town with a friend, pointing out interesting things happening around us. She took us to try French toast and milk tea in a super authentic restaurant (we probably wouldn’t have been able to communicate without her!) Fantastic first day!
Second day Maggie met us in the Kowloon area for another 4 hour tour. She brought us to 2 temples and told us all about religious traditions within them. We learned so much. She took us all around Kowloon which was much more “authentic Chinese” I would say. She got us some more great food: egg tarts, vegetable dumplings, egg waffles. This 2nd day was just as great as the 1st!
Overall, our trip to Hong Kong would not have been what it was without Maggie. You gain such insight to the local area and culture while walking around with a local. If we had done the same walks without a guide, we would not have gotten a fraction of the insight and knowledge of the area that we received with Maggie. She also provided suggestions for restaurants and other activities once she left us each day. She made sure you knew where you were and how to get back to your hotel before leaving each day.
A note about the tours themselves, they cover a lot of ground, so be prepared to walk a lot. Also, if you do go to the peak, use the Big Foot blog post about the free viewpoint on the mountain, it was amazing advice :)
If you are on the fence about booking a tour, go ahead and just do it, it will be so worth it!

Thank you, Sliz_07, and we are so glad to be part of your first visit to Asia! We particularly love this comment of yours, 'If we had done the same walks without a guide, we would not have gotten a fraction of the insight and knowledge of the area that we received with Maggie'.
At Big Foot Tour, it has always been our joy and pride to show a different side of Hong Kong. Beyond the seemingly endless stretch of fancy shopping malls and skyscrapers, we love diving deep into local culture and everyday life with our guests. What do locals think of Hong Kong? How much has changed since the Handover in 1997? Where do we personally head for the most value-for-money and delicious food? These are some insider knowledge that we hope to share with everyone who goes on our tour. Just like you said, no questions are off limits and we are always more than happy to share our personal stories and perspectives of Hong Kong.
Sliz_07, once again, thank you for booking two private walking tours (Real Hong Kong Tour & Kowloon Private Tour) with us. We truly appreciate your support. Let us know when you next visit Hong Kong. We love to catch up, perhaps over more Hong Kong food? :)
P.S. Yes, we have a secret spot at the Victoria Peak - check it out on our blog or social media links. We are also sharing how to skip the crazy lines and get to the Peak in the shortest time possible. You wouldn't want to miss this, we're sure!

Maggie is simply a fantastic guide and a lovely person to spend part of the day with. We received a comprehensive overview of the city, sights & history, yet never felt rushed. Maggie is very smart and full of knowledge, yet she has an easy way of communicating and a great sense of humor - lots of laughs! Book a tour with Maggie at Big Foot tours - you will not be disappointed!

I highly recommend a tour with Big Foot while in Hong Kong. We had an excellent tour guide, Ivan, who was really able to instill a large amount of knowledge and history about the area in a small amount of time. Most impressive, was that he kept a captive audience with my 11 and 13 year old. We loved all the places that he took us and really felt like we had a pretty substantial understanding of Hong Kong through the years when the tour was over.

Thank you, Egangauntt. Ivan had a brilliant time showing all of you around too! In fact, he enjoyed sharing with you the intricate architecture of Chinese temples as well as introducing Hong Kong's yummy local food, from our famous tea and coffee mix to a traditional meal of dim sum. When will you be back in Hong Kong again? Let us know as it will be really nice to catch up and explore other parts of Hong Kong together again!
P.S. We are looking forward to watching the Ant Man 2 movie! =)

Ivan met us at our hotel and led us on a fantastic walking tour of Hong Kong. We learned a lot of Hong Kong History and culture. We had a chance to taste an herbal tea at the local pharmacy, etc. We traveled all over Central and Western Hong Kong including markets in which we saw things we had never seen before! Ivan led us at a comfortable pace and answered all our questions. He spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. We highly recommend this tour - and we have passed this information along to friends who plan to visit.

From the moment we started booking the tours with Ski we knew everythign would be perfect. Great communication and helpful advice on what to do with our bags. Full details confirmed along with pictures of our guides. We booked TWO four hour walking tours, one on Hong Kong and one on Kowloon - possibly a bit much for one day to be honest, but that's all we had, and as they were private, they were completely customisable. We avoided the meat markets, but saw pretty much everything else. Maggie showed us Hong Kong Island, and Ivan Kowloon. Both friendly, spoke perfect English, and looked after us very well, and we really feel we got not only a lot of info, but saw a lot of different parts of the islands. They helped us find breakfast and let us try local delicacies and helped us get from one island to the other, practically handing us over to each other, and you really felt that Ski's tour company was one big happy family.

Thank you, Shaunsouthern, for booking both our Real Hong Kong Tour as well as Kowloon Private Tour. Wow, it's actually the first-time that we have guests booking 2 tours in a day! Usually, our guests would book 2 tours on separate days, but as you had only one full day in Hong Kong, we are more than happy to help customise the tours to your interests (e.g. to avoid meat markets) and ensure that you had enough rest in between the tours. Yes, at Big Foot Tour, we are a happy family and we love doing all we can to take great care of our guests. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to host you in Hong Kong. Hope you enjoyed your trip in New Zealand and are now well-settled back home. Stay in touch!

My wife and I had an eight hour layover in Hong Kong and wanted to make sure we didn't miss the incredible city so booked a private tour - it did not disappoint! Ivan led us on a great walking tour of the city that was the perfect combination of historical context, cultural information and culinary delights. The tour was a perfect pace for us as we were looking to experience a lot in a short period of time and Ivan made sure that was possible. We look forward to our next trip back and would hope to explore more of the interesting part of the world with Ivan. Thanks again!

our guide, Celia, was excellent. She was lively and very knowledgeable and she gave us a lot of different options to vary our tour.
despite the fact that it rained the whole day, it was a very enjoyable tour. Celia was able to make changes to accommodate for the inclement weather. at the end she also took us to a very traditional restaurant where we were the only westerners.

We have a 12 hour flight layover. Our flight arrives at 0600 and departs at 6:30 p.m. Can the guides pick us up at the airport and return us to the airport? Is there an extra fee for this? What time would this start?

Hi, I am accompanying my husband on his business trip to Hong Kong, and I will be exploring Hong Kong alone those 3 days. I have not been to Hong Kong in 30 years(!), so would like to get some ideas about ‘must see’ sights, as well as the best places to shop and browse. I thought a personalised tour might be a good way to start. Thanks, Sally
