Yangtze Gold 6
Oct 2019 • Couples
We did this tour in reverse down the Yangtze River in China. The standard rooms have 2 single beds. Standard room has lots of room and a small balcony. You pay extra ti use the pool or cinema. The boat has a good assortment of shops on board. You can get off the boat when it stops but you need to sign an indemnity form. Beer on board is $8. Beer in local suoermarkets is 65 cents for 500ml can. Staterooms have fridge and kettle. Take a torch so you can read the light swutches properly.

we loved it
Oct 2019
We were on the Gold 6 and our room was ok. It would have been better if the aircon actually worked but you can open the doors to the balcony to get rid of the hot air. We only found one mosquito in our room so we were happy.
There is limited English but you do have to remember you are in China and the locals are by far the biggest group of tourists. Our wait staff were very helpful and the we pre-purchased a dining drink package.
The buffet had a wide selection of meal options. This was our first cruise and we enjoyed the experience

Highlights and lowlights
Oct 2019
My family and I sailed from Yichang to Chonqing over four nights, although the first was spent in port in Yichang.
Lowlights:
The interiors were old and tired and a bit mouldy in the bathrooms.
The window for meals was only 1 and a quarter hours, and we were required to sit at designated tables. Although we did not have a problem with the people we were seated with, we would have liked to mingle around a bit, or sometimes just sit on our own. Breakfast was very early, so no sleeping in or you miss breakfast. This was particularly hard on the first day, as we had travelled all the previous day and were exhausted. There was was no other opportunity to eat, with no cafe or food venue other than the dining room. One family member missed breakfast due to not feeling well, and had to fight just to get a bit of bread.
Announcements in Chinese and English blared constantly into the rooms, waking us up if we were sleeping, so we had to ask a staff member to disable the speaker. The wifi was terrible - available only in the lobby, and patchy at best.
The very inviting looking massage chairs did not work. The lift near our room was out of order, so we had to do a lot of walking to the other end of the boat to take the stairs or lift. Our air conditioning didn’t work. Neither did the fridge. We didn’t end up bothering to get either fixed, as there were so many other issues.
The TV had nothing in English, the movies on the big screen were such bad picture and sound quality that we didn’t bother.
In port, we were often squeezed in beside another boat, obscuring the view and giving us a view straight into someone else’s cabin, replete with second-hand smoke.
Highlights: The food in the VIP dining area was good, with a noodle bar that the people in the general dining area apparently didn’t have. They also didn’t have the freshly cooked food available from the noodle bar, apparently. Just the bain marie food, although I was happy with that. They also made a special effort to accommodate a vegan diet and bought extra veggie food to our table. The food service staff were very attentive.
The tours were good. Probably a bit overpriced, but it was lovely to see the lesser three gorges complete with monkeys, and fascinating to see the dam up close. We also enjoyed the Fengdu ghost city. We didn’t do any others as we wanted to relax a bit.
The reading room was very pleasant with a great view.
The pool was quite nice, although closed at 6pm, which would be unfortunate in good weather. We had mostly rain and drizzle, so only used the pool once.
The cabin size was pretty good, considering it was on a boat. We had three people, so got a larger room, fortunately. Unfortunately we had an emergency stair on our slightly large balcony, so the outlook was not quite as nice.
The shows in the bar were kind of fun, with multi-tasking waiters dressed up and dancing. The talent show was also pretty good.

Excellent Yangtze Gold 8 cruises’ staff but ship is worn & tired and needs refurbishment
Sep 2019 • Friends
The staffs at level 6 of the dedicated restaurant were excellent in their service. They were attentive and polite, namely Lauren, Kenwin, Anaya and Helen. Special mention to Jerry and Sunshine; specially Jerry who went the extra mile to attend to our needs.
The ship’s crew were all very professional in their individual capacity and were polite and attentive at all times.

No English and no western food
Apr 2019
Very little English on board. About 90% of the guests are Chinese. They do a full Chinese briefing every day but none in English. They sell you tours you do not want as they say you must stay on boat or buy tour.

4 day Yangtze crap
This has got to be the worst holiday experience of my life. Do yourself a favor a stay away. I repeat stay away. The ship looks like termites are holding hands. Old, smelly and possibly ready to sink. I paid $400 to upgrade my room and it's ridiculous. I would get more out of sleeping on a rubber dingy on the river. Food is below average. The drinks package is an absolute joke and not worth it. Apart from the Singapore news channel don't bother turning your tv on because there's no English tv stations. They clearly do not cater for Westerners. But they are quick at taking your money. I'd rather do 4 days in my own bedroom watching tv. I give this a 0/5 rating. The staff really don't seem to care or accommodate. I was over it from Day 1.
Save your money. Not worth it AT ALL!!!!!

Terrible boat
Apr 2019 • Couples
We just recently did the 4 day river cruise on the Yangtze Gold 6. The boat is old, dirty and tired. The verdandah rooms are so small there us nowhere to put your luggage other than in your doorway so you can't use the verdandah anyway. Our bathroom was full of mould and someone else's hair in the shower, we asked to change rooms and was charged an extra $400 to upgrade to a bigger room. Which was bigger but still cracked shower and vanity had a big crack almost down the middle, lampshades hanging off etc. We were also very strongly encouraged to pay an extra $80 per person to upgrade to VIP dining as they told us we probably would not get any food in the general dining area because of the crowds of Chinese. The food upstairs was definitely not worth it, but the crowds were less. The beverage package is a joke, for $80 per person you get light beer at dinner time which only last for one hour and one bottle of cheap Chinese wine for the whole 4 day cruise. Restaurant us only open for one hour for breakfast, lunch and dinner and no other snacks, coffee shops or anything else offered on-board. Would I recommend this cruise, definitely not. My suggestion look around many other boats doing the same cruise might offer more.
