    Diverse food
As it was in November, going on the tuk tuk in the dark hutongs was fun. All stops presented interesting food.

Excellent tour of what you need to try for a local breakfast. We ate/tried soooo much food ! I didn't need any lunch and just had a light dinner that day.

Such a fun local food tour !
Tour was super fun and our guide Bonnie was amazing. We tried 4 different kind of local delicacies, while drank beer when riding on Tuktuk. Really one of the best tour I've ever had.

    Amazing food tour!
This food tour was absolutely amazing! However, I have one word of caution - be sure to prepare yourself at the start to be VERY hungry! Our tour guide, Evon (apologies if the spelling is incorrect, it might be Yvonne), was incredibly knowledgeable. To kick things off, we were each handed a bottle of beer and then hopped onto a tuk-tuk that took us to our first stop in a quaint Hutong street. Our culinary adventure began with a bowl of Zhajiangmein noodles each, which were so delicious that I was tempted to finish the entire bowl. However, I was wisely warned to save room for more delectable dishes. Next, we headed to a BBQ spot where we savored marinated lamb cooked on a hot plate, accompanied by a refreshing cucumber salad. Our third stop brought us to a bustling main street where we indulged in 'doorknob meat dumplings' – they were huge and incredibly flavorful, and I couldn't resist eating every last bite of mine. These dumplings were served with some delightful cold side dishes. Evon even treated us to a taste of local strong white liquor called Baiju, which I enjoyed so much that I bought a couple of bottles to take home towards the end of my trip. We proceeded to explore another Hutong area, sampling a variety of local stir-fried dishes served with tasty spring pancakes for wrapping. By this point, we were already quite full, but the deliciousness kept us going. And just when we thought we couldn't eat anymore, there was another surprise - a final stop at a small brewery. Here, we got to choose any beer from the menu. We've been on many food tours, but this one undoubtedly featured the most incredible cuisine. Overall, it was a fantastic tour. However, my only critique is that although the tuk-tuk was a fun way to get around, the evening but the dimly lit Hutong areas made it difficult to see much during the journey. This meant we missed out on picture opportunities along the way to create lasting memories!

    Amazing!
The hutong walking food tour was a great way not only to explore the hutongs themselves but to immerse yourself in Chinese culture. We learned about the different kinds of traditional foods all the way from sweet to savory as well as tons of trivia and what daily life is like there from our tour guide, Jim. Jim was an excellent tour guide, he was very informative, courteous, accommodating, and friendly. We would converse about various topics on Chinese life and culture, most specifically how it was in Beijing, and he would always offer help without us even asking. Our tour guide also had good story telling capabilities, as with every word he spoke about the history and way of living in the places we walked to, we would always be so intrigued and interested in whatever he had to say. After our tour, Jim even helped us on how to get around to find other interesting places to tour around, showing that he truly knew the lay of the land and the interesting parts of the entire city. Overall, we truly enjoyed the time we spent on the tour as well as the food we ate, it will truly be a memory that we will treasure.

This was a really fun thing to do
This was a really fun thing to do. We were in a group of 10 people and were ferried around 5 restaurants in a convoy of 3 Tuk Tuks. Despite having been to Thailand twice this was my first time in a Tuk Tuk and it was a fun experience. We went to 4 restaurants and one bar at the end. The best thing was these were little local restaurants you would never find on your own. The food is very authentic and was excellent everywhere. My favourite was the Mongolian barbeque, where you cook your own food over a firepit set into the table. We were plied with beer throughout the trip and ended up at a bar that does real ale. Our host was very helpful and friendly. This is a great idea and a great way to find little local restaurants a tourist would never find on their own. Just be careful not to eat everything at each restaurant - there are four of them.

Great food tour, our guides Yahao and Yvonne were both outstanding, couldn’t recommend it more! They are both assets to this company, and I will be doing more lost plate food tours just based on the bar they set

    Wonderful food experience
Evon was the best guide we had during our 3 week trip through China. She speaks a very good english and provides additional information to the Hutongs and the history of the food. Over all, she made our last evening in Beijing wonderful. We would recommend the tour for everyone how want to take a Tuk Tuk and find very small local restaurants. Food was deeeelicous!

A must if you are a foodie
Absolutely amazing experience! Well chosen restaurants, which tourists would never even find, or if passing by, not check out. Beijing noodles are my fav, but the ones i tried on the tour were amazing! The bbq was lovely, and the meat bun was an absolute bliss. The pancakes were very nice, and the location is absolutely great. Would not say the last craft beer stop has anything to do with the beer we, Europeans, used to, but lovely atmosphere regardless. Our guide Evan knew so much about food and history, we really enjoyed the tour

Thank you Kelly and Jim for a great introduction to food in Beijing! The breakfast food tour is a great way to see some local spots in the city, and the food was exceptional. Thank you for introducing me to a dirty latte!

    Excellent value!
You absolutely get your money's worth with this tour! Kelly and her guide-in-training Jim did a fantastic job taking us around Beijing, explaining the history of the city and taking us to some really local spots with food that we never would have otherwise tried. We were stuffed to the brim with wonderful local delicacies and we even got some recommendations on where to eat during the rest of our visit, which also did not disappoint! Thank you again Kelly and Jim!

I was able to enjoy 4 different types of delicious food styles from four different restaurants. Each having unique and authentic dishes. The food was fantastic at each location. Our Food tour guide, Evon, was able to make the experience extra special by giving us some background story behind every dish that we ate. I love the history behind it. I definitely recommend this tour and Evon as your guide. You'll enjoy it a lot. Don't miss out on the fun and food!

Lost Plate knows the way to authentic Chinese food restaurants in Beijing. Tourists wouldn't be able to find them on their own. We enjoyed four representative local cuisines and good company all along. I'd recommend this tour to any foodie visiting the city.

Hello overDriv3, thank you for your fantastic review! These authentic local restaurants that are hidden deep in the hutongs are truly hard to find, even more so for travelers. It took soooo many times of walkabouts and tastings before including the places on our tour because we wanted to offer a diverse range that also allows you to learn about the food culture of Beijing. Thank you again for joining us in Beijing, and we hope to see you again soon!

Didn't expect that much at the beginning of the tour, but turned out that this was actually one of the highlights of my stay. If you like to try original Chinese food, this is absolutely worth a try.
4 different Chinese cuisines in four different restaurants. I recommend to not eat too much at the first two, so you can at least have a bit more at the last 2 restaurants (unless you are a good eater, but I had trouble eating more at the last restaurant - which was a hot-pot one).
Also the guide was very nice and explained a lot about Chinese food!

I was here in BJ visiting my friend working for the embassy, the Lostplate food tour has a really good reputation among those people. I have tried the breakfast tour and this van tour, both with the guide Kelly. She is super friendly and helpful, also knows a lot about the hutong area we have been to, and so many interesting stories about all the food we tried. But the dinner will always be fancier and more delicate than the breakfast and sooooooo much more food!!!We have tried 4 different stops with totally 4 different cuisines and flavors, rated as the best taste of the whole country, all of them are sooooooo good! Just one problem: could finish up them all lol! So come to this tour without having lunch and do not get too much for the first stop!

I have always felt that the best way to get to know a country is through its food. Whenever I travel I try to eat as much like a local as I can and try as much of that country's food as I can, and no country has a richer food tradition than China. However finding the best places to eat and then ordering food is almost impossible if you don't speak the language.

I found that Lost Plate have totally solved this problem with their tour and the food they choose and the restaurants they take you to are a fantastic representation of Chinese cuisine from different parts of China that one may never get the opportunity to visit. The Yunnan food was especially delicious and some of the dishes I had never tried before. The restaurant specialising in Beijing food was also amazing and I definitely would not have been able to find it down the twisting maze of alleyways or "hutongs" even with a map and GPS.

Our guide Nicole really made the tour come alive, not only is she fun, but she also has a great taste in music (and food of course!) and knows a lot about all the different dishes, their history, significance and the places in China where they come from. In all honesty you couldn't ask for a better guide. Not once on the tour did I feel awkward or bored and she makes everyone feel welcome from the moment they arrive even if they're on their own.

I will definitely recommend this tour to my friends or family when they come to visit me in China, especially if they wont have the opportunity to travel to the distant provinces of Xinjiang, Sichuan and Yunnan, all of which are (quite rightly) famed for their cuisine, as this tour does all of their major and delicious dishes the upmost service.

So don't miss out on some tasty Chinese food that you wont be able to find anywhere else, I really can't recommend this tour highly enough!
