About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ElsieOng880 contributionsInsightful experience at the Forbidden CityI would strongly recommend this tour as it would be difficult to know about the significance of the different buildings and halls and the rich history of the former inhabitants in the Forbidden City without one. Our guide Miko was very knowledgeable and shared a great deal on the more significant historical events, people and stories of the palace across the dynasties. He was also helpful and funny too. A worthwhile experience!Written December 11, 2024
- 699kristye0 contributionsGreat tour with SusanAfter doing some research on visiting the Forbidden City, I decided it would be best to book a private tour for my mother and I, and I’m very glad I did! From the pick up at our hotel, navigating the subway, tickets, and directions, Susan made the whole experience seamless and easy. She is so knowledgeable about the sites but also about Chinese history and culture, and always had answers to all of our questions. We learnt so much on the tour, and I would recommend it to others because you get much more out of the experience than just going to these sites on your own without a local guide. Thank you Susan!Written December 11, 2024
- percywongsk0 contributionsGood tripClear and humorous explanation of the whole itinerary. Walk a lot but learn a lot too. Will recommend friends to join this tour if they are going to Beijing and Tiananmen.Written December 10, 2024
- amandacJ19LD0 contributionsMiko - best tour guideMiko is an outstanding tour guide! He provided us with a lot of interesting facts about the forbidden city. He also has a good sense of humour which made the walking tour very fun and memorable.Written December 10, 2024
- U4952QZrachela0 contributionsTian an men and forbidden city tourMiko (our guide) was very knowledgeable about the places that we visited - Tian a men square and the forbidden city. He was quick on his feet when there were unforeseen circumstances eg closing of an entrance to the tian an men square because of an official visit/ event. He paid for the bus tickets for the group and always ensured that everyone was safe, present and accounted for. He gave us a comprehensive tour and information about the 2 places and also about some notable events in Chinese history. Though the forbidden city was very big, he was skillful in bringing us to places where we could see history come to life.he was also very lighthearted in his approach and always had audience participation by asking us some questions. He also shared about the daily life of the Chinese people and the circumstances that they face. Very very satisfied with the tour. Even though it was a long tour, Miko managed to keep the mood enjoyable, lighthearted and enjoyable. Best tour guide!!Written December 10, 2024

- _T1084JO0 contributionsExcellent journey to the Chinese historyMy wife and I were visiting the Forbidden town in the beginning of Dec 2024. We joined the afternoon group and it was a great excursion! We was in every spot in the exact time with our guide JAY, so we can enjoy the beautiful ancient building with perfect sun light. We discovered the hidden interesting place with his help and understood the long history of this place. The English was perfect, so we can easily understood every aspect of the story.Written December 8, 2024
- bbE3815EX0 contributionsAbsolutely perfectWhat a wonderful experience! Our tour guide Kevin made this an unforgettable trip through the Forbidden City. With so many interesting stories, fun facts, and jokes he really made the city come alive. Can highly recommend the tour and Kevin who gave just the right amount of information with time to take pictures and stroll around.Written December 8, 2024
- 786priyak0 contributionsGreat half a day tour!Sherry was amazing, and as was her English. She was full of knowledge and was able to accommodate all of our requests within the day. The tour was great we did it in the afternoon and managed to see the pandas eat and play at about 2:30 pm. We then went onto summer Palace for 4 o’clock whereby we caught the most amazing views of the Sun beginning to set over the lake. Sherry and the driver, Mr Zhang ( NO 沪 DZE879 ) provided us with water and Coke for the day, as well as making sure we were not waiting for pick up for any length of time between tourist hotspots. Sherry made the day fun and I would highly recommend using Beijing tours for your sightseeing and tourism in Beiijjng.Written December 8, 2024
- ChengYeeW30 contributionshighly recommendedOur tour guide Kevin was very nice and informative. We were late due to the traffic but he led us to find him via whatsapp. His use of english and chinese was very professional and made everything easy to understand for us. He even recommended restaurants nearby and guided us to the nearest subway.Written December 8, 2024
- jeffgJ684XL0 contributionsVivian was excellent! We enjoyed this tour. Vivian, our tour guide was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Forbidden City. We are from the US and did not speak any Chinese. The tour was in English but we had a very tight connection to catch a train to Shanghai immediately after the tour. Vivian went out of her way to help us catch a taxi which was not an easy task and we made it to the train station with time to spare. Thank you.Written December 7, 2024
- marco g0 contributionsGreat tourMy tour guide, Miko, was very nice and friendly. He gave us a lot of interesting information. It’s a great tour. Thank you!Written December 7, 2024
- 786priyak0 contributionsGreat tour, Lucy was amazing! Highly recommend. The tour was great, they were on time and hassle free. Lucy was an incredible tour guide. She was a bundle of knowledge and explained everything so well. She had answers to all our questions. Lucy personalised our tour to our needs and even took us to an amazing Chinese tea room where we learnt about the different teas and tried them too. Lucy even accommodated a trip to the Birds Nest to see it at night. She was so friendly and made us all very welcome. She also knew the best photo spots for all of these locations and took great group pictures. Lucy took us for lunch at a hutong restaurant and Lucy was so helpful in ensuring the restaurant accommodated for our nut allergies. Would highly recommend asking for Lucy for this trip.Written December 7, 2024

This is be best tour you can ever book if you want to see 2 sections of the Great Wall. Mutianyu is as one might imagine… spectacular! The view and the guide (Anson) was great! He lead us up and told us where the best views were for pictures. His knowledge and information was amazing. Then we went Simatai section that was lighted up at night where you have to go through the Water Town. Another spectacular experience there as the night views were beautiful.

I was hoping to get tickets to visit Simatai Great Wall by night as it is the only segment of the Great Wall which is open after dark. Unfortunately it was near impossible to figure out how to book tickets. We were lucky to chance upon this tour organised by Discover Beijing Tours which conveniently included a visit to both the Mutianyu and Simatai segments of the Great Wall near Beijing.
Our guide Anson picked us up at 10 am from our hotel in a comfortable new six-seater which had ample room for all of us. We got to Mutianyu first and got a choice of chair-lift / cable car up to the nearest watch-tower. (There is also a toboggan slide on the way down, but we didn't try it out.) We then had a delicious lunch at a restaurant recommended by Anson for authentic Dongbei Chinese cuisine, before taking a short drive to Gubei Water Town, which was recently constructed around Simatai and features many small shops and eateries together with scenic views. We then took a cable car up to Simatai Great Wall (only two watch-towers are open for visiting at night).
Our guide Anson was very knowledgeable and gave us a detailed explanation of the history of the Great Wall's construction over the centuries in both English and Mandarin.
All the attraction tickets and transport (such as cable cars, chair-lifts and so on) were arranged for us and we didn't have to lift a finger. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Beijing.
Pros: Travel in comfort; attraction tickets and meals are taken care of
Cons: Tour runs pretty late (returning at 9 pm or later if you left at 10am), requires some stamina if you want to climb 2 segments of the Great Wall in 1 day
