We had Stop over in Beijing and booked tour to great wall.
Herbie was our guide . He was waiting on or meeting point and was in sms contact before. I took a 24h visa , and that took approx. 1,5 h waiting in line. 30minutes at teh free visa counter ( cross over E11) than 45 minutes at Foreigner Visitor entry.
We got excellent discretion how to process 24 h free Visa in advance by Beijing Layover Tour Organization.
We were picked up by Mrs Yang, an excellent driver and went to the great wall. Herbie took care to buy the tickets and support me to buy ticket for the toboggan run return from the wall ( very funny )
Tour was done in perfect English, never meet a Chinese guy speaking English without chinses dialect. :-) Herbie also spoke some German words
We went up by a lifter and got multiple extreme nice pictures done by Herbie our tour guide. He knows the best hotspots on the wall to get fantastic picture .
He is a great Foto Shooter :-)
After the tour we drove back to Airport.
Drive was approx. 45 minutes . We had Stop over in Peking for 10 hours .

This was such an amazing tour! Herbie was such an awesome guide and very knowledgeable. It felt like I was touring the Great Wall with a friend I had know forever. Very personable and friendly. Got to visit towers 1-7 and took the slide down. Definitely better than sitting in the airport for 10 hours. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone thinking about taking one. Well worth your time and money!! Thanks Herbie!!

Bijing Layover Tour were amazing in helping me get to The Great Wall in my 7 hour layover in Beijing. The time was tight so I only had 40 mins on the wall but I was the only person there!!! I landed at 5.50am and we were at the wall at about 9am. Lisa was very friendly and helpful, and knew so much about the history of the wall - it was all great. I even had time to grab some authentic food and sample some locally grown stone fruit. Unfortunately I left my phone in the tour car when I got to the airport but when I flew back through Beijing the company met me with my phone, all charged and ready to go. I can not thank them enough, they were wonderful!

We had an excellent experience with Beijing Layover Tours, all the way from communication before the trip to the tour arrangements. Our layover timing was not convenient, but Dan exchanged emails till we figured out a reasonable tour. Herbie was an excellent tourguide, and we had a great time. A good use of extra time in Beijing if you have a few hours.

BOTTOM LINE: Best tour we’ve ever booked anywhere! Thank you, Jade!
My family of four (kids ages 11 & 8) had a 22 hour layover in Beijing on Air China. Air China provided us with a complimentary hotel stay (see my review of Beijing Aulympic Airport Hotel.). In planning our layover activities, I needed to find something for the entire morning after our night at the hotel and before our 2pm flight. I searched the internet, and the Beijing Layover Tour kept popping up as a good option.
Communication and booking was smooth and efficient with Daniel Yan. He responded quickly and helpfully via email. Daniel had suggested a tour of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall based on the fact that we had only the morning available before needing to be back at the airport by noon. It was a great suggestion for our time frame. The early morning timing meant no lines and not a lot of people on the wall during our visit. PERFECT! Maximized our limited time.
Our wonderful guide Jade met us at our hotel right on time to pick us up at 6:30am. We had a private van for the 4 of us that was clean and had plenty of space for us and our luggage. I noticed that there was even a USB charging port in the van (I didn’t try it though). Our van driver was great. Keep in mind that when you are in a foreign country, you can’t judge a driver based on how you drive in your home country. He knew the “unwritten” rules of the road in China and got us where we needed to go safely (my daughter often gets car sick, and she had no problems on the ride). The driver even watched our luggage for us, so we didn’t have to bring it all up to the top. That was SUPER helpful.
On the way to the Great Wall, Jade gave us a brief introduction to Chinese language, to the history of the Great Wall, and to modern Chinese history and culture. She welcomed all of our questions and was engaging in her responses. We enjoyed learning from her and asking her questions. My kids still remember how to say, “I love you,” in Chinese!
Our family likes to hike, so we weren’t sure if we would hike up to top of the wall or take the ski-lift (run by the same company as the toboggan ride we had planned to take down). Jade convinced us to buy round trip tickets up and down (paid on our own, not included with the tour fee, but so worth it). We were glad we did that! With our limited time, we weren’t even able to hike the full length of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. If we had hiked up, we would have seen even less of the top of the wall. We had just under 2 hours at the top of the wall, and it was a perfect amount of time to tire out my kids and get some great photos.
Jade made our visit efficient and smooth by showing us where to go and translating for us. First stop: the nice bathrooms near the entrance to the ski lift (that is an important detail for families!). Then we took the ski lift up. Since we came so early in the morning, we did not have to wait in line for tickets or for the lift. If my daughter had been any smaller or very active (she’s a big 8 year old and is not wiggly), I would have been nervous about her taking the ski lift. The ski lift was perfect for our family: thrilling but safe enough! The people operating the lift made sure we got on and off safely.
At the top, Jade made sure we took photos in the best locations and with the best poses. She even used her own phone to capture a great jumping pose of our family, which she emailed to me later. Thanks to her knowledge and guidance, we didn’t have to worry about capturing the perfect photos to bring our memories home with us.
Jade guided us as to which direction to walk first and then waited for us. We went the steeper and more difficult direction first. Good choice doing that first so that our kids weren’t too tired to do it at the end. We loved the views, and even my daughter did the practically vertical steps fine. I’m so glad we came early because by the time we left, the Wall was getting rather busy with tourists.
Again, we had no line for the toboggan ride down. That was also thrilling and safe enough for us. Employees of the toboggan ride were stationed along the slide down to make sure we were ok and not going too fast or too slow to take the curves. You have to be 10 years old to ride alone, so my 8-year-old rode with me.
Jade knew we wanted maximum time at the top of the Wall, so we only had a few minutes at the souvenir shop, which was plenty of time for us.
On the drive to the airport, we asked if we could stop to buy some peaches. Jade and the driver found a farm stand for us on the side of the road with fresh peaches directly in front of the farm where they had been grown! We got 3 different kinds of delicious peaches. Yum!
Jade also offered to find us some dim sum, so we made a quick stop at a local dim sum restaurant and got to try some donkey dim sum. Delicious!
Our driver got us to the Beijing airport right on time at noon. He helped us double check to make sure we didn’t forget any bags. Jade helpfully guided us to the correct place to catch the airport train to international departures, so we wouldn’t get lost.
I can’t believe all that we got to do in one short morning! Thank you, Jade, Daniel, and the Beijing Layover Tours team!

If you have a long layover during hours that make this tour possible - DO IT! It was a once in a lifetime experience that was so well organized and worth every penny. We were worried we would be too tired from 2 or 3 hours of uncomfortable sleep to truly enjoy the experience but that wasn't the case at all. We got out of the airport quickly and our guide was ready and waiting, the car was very nice and comfortable, our guide shared tons of incredible information on the drive to the wall and even let us take a nap. By the time we arrived at the wall the sun was shining and our second wind had kicked in! Our guide got us our tickets, knew exactly what areas of the wall provided for the best pictures, views, and least crowds. She gave us a little over an hour to explore on our own before taking the toboggan down. She helped us get some Chinese take out before driving us back in the airport with the perfect amount of time! The tour guides do that tour every day, sometimes twice a day, so they truly know what to do to make the experience go smooth. I am so thankful we got to experience the beauty of the Great Wall!

This was my 1st time in China and I had a 9 hour layover in Beijing in my way home. What a great opportunity to see the Great Wall! My guide Johnson was friendly, knowledgeable, spoke great English, tailored the experience to what I wanted it to be and even took some pictures for me since I was by myself. He helped me check my bags at the airport before leaving (I had a big trade show case with me) and retrieve them when we got back. The booking and payment was super easy. I would absolutely use this company again if I’m ever in Beijing again. Thanks for a wonderful experience that I will never forget!

My daughter and I had a layover in Beijing in March and I happened to read about this tour. It was AMAZING. Everything from the first communication with Daniel to the actual tour with Herbie was perfect. Herbie is the most knowledgeable and witty person-- and he takes great photos. If you have a lengthy layover, I highly recommend this tour. My daughter and I loved it so much, we are going to do it again next March!

Had a short layover in Bejing and organised this tour to visit the great wall. All the booking emails were clear and set up straight forward. Flight arrived at 5am and just made it through immigration and visa by 6.30am to be met exactly on time by our guide Sandy.
Sandy took care of everything from then on and by just before 8am we were walking up the steps to the Great Wall of China. Cannot compliment Sandy enough who was knowledgeable, friendly and with great english language skills. She helped us appreciate not only the history of the Great Wall but a lot of other subjects and answered all our many questions. Big thank you again.
We were back at the airport by just before midday for our flight which was perfectly timed for us. This made for such a memorable trip and highly recommend this company who offer a range of tours. Will use them again to see more of Bejing on our next trip.

I was hesitant about going, afraid to miss our flight home. Our layover was 8 hours and we did fine. It works!
The stressful part was getting the Visa, and foing through customs. Both took more than 1 an hour each. After we got through that, out guide was waiting exactly where they told us. We were off!
My critiques:
The guides English was limited. He had a great prepared and well timed speech for what we were driving by/looking. We were told our guide is fluent in English but this was not accurate. Although we could communicate, it took a lot of effort to figure out what each other was saying. Asking random questions about what we saw was not much of an option, as he couldn't understand the question.
My biggest critique: we should not have had to pay an additional 40$ to use the lift to get to the wall. It absolutely should have been included considering it's the only way you will have time to see the wall (hiking up the mountain just to get to the entrance is not an option due to time). I felt that after paying 290$usd for the two of us, paying an additional 20$ each was stupid. I was sure everything would be included. Also, no snacks or drinks were offered. We were starving once we landed so after 2.5 hours of being in line to get our Visa and get through customs, you would think 300usd would include SOMETHING to keep you hydrated and from starving.

Hello Sonia,
Thanks for your feedback, and we apologize sincerely for the unsatisfied aspects during your tour.
Please allow me to say a few words about the tour.
First of all, there were many tourists on your tour date, that was a very busy day, so it cost you 2.5 hours waited in the line for the visa to get out. We hate this as well but it is not controllable.
Since you got out late, the time became limited, tour guide have to gave you option: walk up to the Wall (you do not need to pay for the cable car but waste time) or take cable car to insure more visiting time on the Wall.
Of course, the cable car was recommended, since the nice view on the cable car and it saves more time for you. Obviously we have already listed on our itinerary, the cable car cost is not included in the tour price. So you have to pay on your own. (we did not include cable car in the tour since some clients have enough time and prefer to walk up).
We waited for you at the Starbucks Coffee at the airport, we understood you might be hungry after the long waiting, so the very first thing when we met you our guide asked if you want to buy some food from the coffee shop but you refused.
One more thing, we double checked with both tour guide and driver, they did offer drinking water for you, and our tour dose not include meal or any snacks. Sorry about it, but if you check carefully you should see it listed on the tour details at "tour Exclusions" section.
We agree that our guide lack of communication, we are sorry about it.
Hope this will not influence your interest to use us in the future. We will try our best to serve you a perfect trip next time.

Hi!
I am flying through Beijing in Late October and would like to do a layover tour. I land at 4:30 and leave at 17:30. Would it be possible to book a tour that visits the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, it is there only time for one? Thank you!
Also, will my guide give me some history of the area or is it strictly transport.

Not sure that will be enough time to do both comfortably. The guide was great and very informative. If you email the company they can better guide you as to how much time you need to do both. Count on taking about 2 hours to get out of the airport when you arrive.

The Mutianyu Great Wall is stop selling tickets at 17:00 in winter. So your time is not enough to do this tour. Sorry about that!

hello, a group of us will have a layover in Beijing while in route to Bangkok,Thailand. Will we be able to take your tour if we have another layover in Beijing while heading back home to the United States? I read this rule: The 24/144-hour Visa-free Transit only applies to passengers who transit through Beijing Capital International Airport in Beijing. The destination and place of departure cannot be the same.(e.g Auckland – Beijing – Auckland) and we just want to be clear.

Hello, according to your flight itinerary, it is suitable for the visa free policy, so you can get the visa free (transit visa) twice.
1. US-Beijing-Thailand
2. Thailand-Beijing-US
But we found some reasons that cause you can not obtain the Visa-free.
1. The validity of your passport less than 3 months.
2. Worked or been to Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you!

Hello Sir/Madam,
We can pick you up from your hotel instead of the airport on Jan. 31, 2020. And we will transfer you back to the airport after the tour.
About the pick-up time, you can choose anytime from 6:30am-9:30am.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello. We are a group of 6. We will arrive at the airport around 11.30am and leave again at 9pm. Is that enough time for the tour to Great Wall? And how do we know who will pick us up from airport? I need some detail about how to get 24 hr visa and such too

The visa is issued when you arrive at the airport. If you take this tour, they have very detailed explanation of what you need to do from the moment you arrived Beijing. The instructions on how to recognize your guide is also in that details they will send you. Just follow it and your group will be fine. Enjoy!
Hello! I arrive in Beijing at 825am and depart at 4pm. Will this be enough time for a tour? If yes, can you recommend what time I should book? Thank you very much!
