We did a day tour with Sonia of Beijing Catherine Lu Tours to the Great Wall (Mutianyu) and the Summer Palace. She had a great personality, was easy to get along with and was obviously well versed in Chinese history, at ease with dates, dynasties and emperors and the associated intriguing stories which brought to life the structures we saw. After asking about our taste preferences, she brought us to a beautiful local restaurant where we were served exactly the kind of dishes we would have ordered if we knew what to order. The food was prepared from the freshest ingredients, the owner’s farm, and so skilfully cooked we enjoyed every mouthful. That lunch is so memorable, I still think of it. Needless to say, Sonia manoeuvred us through the ticket gates, skipping queues, and guiding us directly to the points of interests, so we did not waste time wandering around by trial and error. To top it all, we travelled in a spacious quiet car well driven by a professional driver. There was no forced shopping, unsolicited offers or other unsavoury conduct. The tour was conducted professionally and honestly.

During our 4 and half week holiday in China we have booked several tours with Catherine Lu tours company. All of them were excellent organized. The tour guide was on time, English language was perfect and also the knowledge of the history and culture was great. We have enjoyed Suzhou Private Tour very well. The tour included entrance to the beautiful Suzhou gardens and we have seen a lot of Suzhou attractions. The company is reliable, they react quickly on the e-mails. I would highly recommend this tour! The guides were communicative and gave detailed instructions & information before I arrived. I took the tour during busy golden week and they were able to adjust times to give guests the best experience. My guide, Adam, was easy to understand and very knowledgeable about the city. He was conscientious and asked the group many times what we preferred (how long to stop in each spot, whether to stop in sun or shade, etc). I had a wonderful time.

It was a fantastic evening walk around the Hutongs in north Beijing. The guide, James, was very knowledgeable of the area and he showed and explained to us the many sights within the Hutongs. The food from the various shops we visited was tasty and sumptuous. The local beer was also good. Although not in the itinerary, he accompanied us back to the hotel. Thanks, James.

The views and atmosphere were fantastic. To top it all, the guide, Sonia, was incredible. She was so pleasant and chatty which kept us fully engrossed all the time. She was also very knowledgeable, not only of the attractions she took us to, but also on Beijing in general. She took us to a local restaurant, part of the tour arrangement, serving the best local food we had during our overall two weeks stay in Beijing. We were collected by Justin and the driver at the hotel - they were so helpful and accommodating. We travelled comfortably to Gubei Water Town and guided through the town, with a few stop offs to buy gifts and take photos. Justin took us through some beautiful cultural areas like the fabric and textile museum which was beautiful (and very instagrammable!). We then headed up to the Great Wall which did not disappoint! We were lucky to arrive early and avoid the crowds… We then had dinner by the river - which was perfect. Then taken safely back to the hotel. Justin and driver were very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. We would recommend Catherine Lu Tours - everything was well communicated and ran very smoothly.,,,

Had a fabulous half day tour with Maggie aka Gu Ping, who was simply fabulous. Great storytelling, learning but having a dedicated person going at our pace was the best. She navigated big crowds, lines and having done it, we couldn’t imagine trying to do it on our own, spend the money it’s worth the experience. Her English was great!

Sonia, our tour guide, was really nice, amiable and helpful. I felt that the tour covered the important parts, and she led us away from the big crowds as much as possible. The restaurants we went to were all delicious and offered authentic Beijing food. This tour is highly recommended. Apart from these, Sonia gave good recommendations for food and shopping. I have been to Beijing a few times but this was the first visit for my wife. Jenny was able to show us all the major sites of Beijing and was even able to work in a few new experiences for myself. Wonderful to hear the detailed history of the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace and the Temple of Heaven. We are, necessarily, Gluten Free which can be difficult in China. As such, we elected not to stop and have our included meals and Jenny went out of her way to “make it up to us” with new stops and experiences. I can’t thank Jenny and Catherine Lu tours enough. When we come back, we will definitely reach out!!

An absolutely fabulous adventure with our delightful guide, May Wang, making everything so seamless and easy. Just to sit down in wonder at the extraordinary monument that is the Great Wall - a very special experience.
