About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- adelerobyn0 contributionsChose Jinshanling and have the wall to yourself! We chose a Private Transfer without a guide to Jinshanling with Catherine Wu Tours because we wanted to explore the wall on our own. And we totally made the right choice! From the outset, Catherine We Tours were great to deal with, communication was swift and clear, we were picked up and dropped of from/to our hotel with ease. Our driver Lu Xiaolong went over and above to make our trip unforgettable. If we could give him 10 stars, we would! He shouted us a surprise breakfast after we forgot to eat before we left. He gave us snacks, water and was really friendly and helpful. His car was modern, comfortable, clean and well air-conditioned. We communicated easily via a translation app that Lu had on his phone 🙂 He has a wonderfuly positive outlook on life, is very knowledgeable and attentive. Jinshanling was AMAZING. Most of the time we had the entire wall to ourselves, it was very relaxed, quiet and stunningly beautiful, a spectacular spot and good break from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are so many photo opportunities at this part of the wall. Some restored parts and some left unrestored, which adds to the magic ✨ We highly recommend choosing Catherine Wu Tours and our driver Lu Xiaolong. My only wish is that we had more time, I guess we will have to plan another visit in the future!Written September 17, 2024
- alexandrarL622IH0 contributionsThe best!I really appreciated how accommodating and helpful the Catherine Lu Tour was upon our arrival. There were quick response times, straightforward directions, and genuine care towards us having a good time. Our tour guide Angela was delightful and we were so lucky to have her enthusiasm along with her knowledge we would’ve never received if we had gone to the forbidden city by ourselves. Thank you so much for giving us an amazing personable experience🙏🏼❤️Written September 17, 2024
- gerardsR7425PG0 contributionsAwesome experience with JennaJenna was really informative right from the get go, from the time of booking online, we had great communication of where we had to meet who was our guide, and then meeting jenna our guide, who was so informative, calm, kind and courteous, her English was amazing, her knowledge of the location wa amazing. Lastly her thoughtful gesture if giving us a moment and a making a video of us was even beautiful. We highly recommend this company and most of Jenna. Gerry and MelWritten September 17, 2024

- Caryn C0 contributionsBeautiful and unique experience. The drive to this section of the wall is a little bit farther but it is definitely worth it. Unique and beautiful . Our outstanding guide James picked us up at hotel on time and stayed with us the entire time. The water town is gorgeous. It included a drone show, cable car ride and more. Would highly recommend!!!Written September 15, 2024
- 598kerrip0 contributionsLike Having the Whole Wall to YourselfWe thoroughly enjoyed our tour to the Great Wall. Our tour guide, James, was super-friendly, had great knowledge, and was super accommodating--making sure that we achieved everything we wanted to on the day. James has great English, which made the tour very easy for us. The car for the 2 hour drive was comfortable, well-air-conditioned and a friendly driver. The wall itself was spectacular and we were taken to a piece that was far away from the usual tourist bustle. I think we only saw 5-6 other people the whole time we were there. We enjoyed this tour so much that we booked a different tour with the James for the following day. Highly recommend.Written September 15, 2024
- Alexander B0 contributionsBeijing Night Tour & Forbidden CityWe booked 2 half day private tours with Catherine Lu for our trip to Beijing. The booking and preparation where very good, with prompt responses. Our first tour was an night tour. Our tour guide Angel was on time in our hotel and there was a comfortable car, with water bottles. Angel’s. The tour was great to get a view at this vibrant city at night. We saw the forbidden city and Tianmen Square from the car, then went to the Olympic stadium and went out to walk around and take pictures. Best part was walking in the lake area, eating some snacks and enjoying seeing the night live. Our second half day was a morning tour of the forbidden city. Our tour guide’s (Angel) English was not great, we had often a hard time understanding here, also because she’s soft spoken. Definitely not the fault of Angel, but we were a bit disappointed by the forbidden city - probably our expectations were too high.Written September 15, 2024

We had an incredible time both at the Tiananmen square/ forbidden palace and the Great Wall. Easy to book and flexible for foreign travelers. Jenny and the other tour guides were also easy to get along with and very knowledgeable about the history and the various sites. I’d recommend this tour group to anyone coming from abroad to China and are looking for a meaningful experience.Written September 12, 2024

- Wendy S0 contributionsFabulous 3 day tour in Beijing with Sonya.Never being in Beijing before, saw great , important sights. Schedule was well thought out , on time , and very easy to get through all the security. All tickets were purchased ahead of time making it very easy to enter. Drivers scheduled and timely and never had to wait for rides. Our guide Sonya was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and enjoyable to spend time with. She taught us so much and helped us with photos with perfect spots. We had to be a little flexible due to weather and she set it up so we wouldn’t miss anything and made sure we were okay with any changes. We were in great hands with Sonya and felt comfortable trusting her with any decisions.Written September 10, 2024
- 772lindallw0 contributionsGreat day out!James was outstanding. He gave us just the right amount of information without spending too long on areas not of interest. He was super great at navigating the long lines and around the attractions. Lunch was amazing! And everything he ordered us was great. We had such a great day and would highly recommend it if you’re in Beijing!Written September 7, 2024

Her explanations were clear and easy to understand, adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience. I booked this tour because I wanted to see the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall and the beautiful Hong Luo Buddhist Temple as a less touristy alternative to the imperial tombs that would let me see a bit more of the mountains near Beijing. It was an excellent choice.
My guide, Tracy, was wonderful. She was as accommodating and considerate as possible and really made the whole trip so easy and pain free. She was a great resource, too, as she explained the history and details of the sights we visited and I learned a lot. She took care of everything: from being picked up from my hotel to getting dropped back off, I didn't have to lift a finger. And lastly, she was great company and made the journey fun.
As for the sights, I do recommend visiting the Hong Luo (or Red Shell) Temple because it's really peaceful and not crowded, with fresh mountain air. A nice respite from Beijing's bedlam.
