Amazing tour of the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square with Kathy
This tour was absolutely great , no matter how many pictures of Forbidden City you’ve seen before - the real thing leaves you breathless - it’s so GRANDb , so much beauty and history and everything has its special meaning and to understand that you need a guide otherwise you’ll be missing j out royally . I got really lucky , because my guide Kathy was absolutely the best : she pointed out and explained all the details of architecture and historical connections at the same time making sure you are comfortable and well hydrated 😊.

          Nice tour!
Catherine organized an incredible trip to the Great Wall for us. I'm a photographer, so I asked if we could arrange to go very early to avoid crowds, and that's exactly what we did! Our driver picked us up very early, and we had the Wall almost to ourselves. Thank you for this amazing experience.

          Best highlights in Beijing
My wife and I did the Heaven Temple tour with Maggie. It is such an interesting place with a lot of history to learn. Maggie was very attentive and gave us a lot of information. She could even speak spanish, which made the tour even better. Catherine also was our guide during our visit to the forbidden city, we loved how they took care of us! Great experience! 100% recommended

          Beat place in the city
We visited the Great Wall in July. We went very early in the morning to avoid crowds and the heat. We recommend entering at 7:30 when it opens. We had an amazing day. This place is really special. Catherine managed all the tickets with the cable car and the transportation, which was very easy and convenient.

Perfect Private Tour in Beijing and Shanghai
My family and I spent 1 week between Beijing and Shanghai private touring with Catherine Lu’s team and it was amazing. From the tour planning with Jenna and the touring with Jenny, and all the support from our drivers, we had an excepcional experience. Catherine Lu Tour is definitely the best tour you can have in terms of perfect touring, good price, knowledgeable guides, excellent cars to move around and all the important attractions covered. A special thanks to Jenna and our private guide Jenny for such a memorable experience.

          A fantastic tour!
Last week we had an amazing tour with tour guide Jenna. She picked us up at the hotel and together we went to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden city. Jenna was incredibly knowledgeable, when we had a question she always had an answer and she could tell the stories with great detail. Besides that she has a great sense of humor and she is a fantastic photographer. We had a great time and we would definitely book again with this company! Jenna thank you so much for the amazing tour

          Amazing experience of The Wall
The tour guide made the best out of the 2h drive from the airport, sharing bits of history and trivia along the way. Upon arrival, we had a tasty lunch at a local restaurant, and took a shuttle bus to the ski lift. Short walk after, we took the lift to the starting section of The Wall. Breathtaking views, a bit of a hike to the highest tower, a lot of photos and history notes from the guide - all together an unforgettable experience. To top it all off, we took a toboggan cart ride to the bottom. Super fun.

          Excellent, even in rain
The drive from Beijing to Jinshanling was about two hours, but after the first hour the scenery becomes quite beautiful and is worth the trip. Although it was raining/foggy the day we visited, the Great Wall actually turned out to be very aesthetic in the mist. The Jinshanling section feels very isolated and has a rugged beauty. Plus, the weather wasn’t too hot. It also wasn’t too crowded, and we got some excellent photos! Our guide, May, was enthusiastic and very accommodating. She helped us change from a hike to a cable-car at the last minute because it was raining. Then, she let us wander around the wall as much as we wanted and didn’t force us to visit gift shops or anything. Lunch was good, too. Because we had extra time, May arranged for us to also visit the Heavenly Temple that afternoon (which we were otherwise worried we wouldn’t get to visit before we left Beijing). I would highly recommend the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall (rain or shine) and May as a guide!

Amazing tour to the Great Wall at Jinshanling
Wow, what an amazing experience! Brad was a fantastic guide. We hiked for about 2.5 hours, including walking up to the Wall to avoid the cable car. We walked for about 6km, with 327m of climbing, including plenty of stops for photos. There are some steep sections, so you need to be reasonably fit, but anyone who has done any hill walking would be OK with this. The views are spectacular and there were no crowds. Jinshanling is definitely an excellent place to visit the Great Wall. After the hike we had an delicious lunch at a local restaurant. The food was very good. Our driver did a great job getting us to the Wall and back. We requested a 7am pickup from our hotel, which was perfect for us. We were dropped off back at the hotel at 3pm, so this was an 8 hour trip. Everything was perfect. Thank you Brad and Catherine. Very highly recommended.

Private Driver & Car to Mutianyu - Highly recommend!
We hired a Private Car with driver to take us to Mutianyu Great Wall section, including tickets, etc. We met our friendly driver, Wang, at our hotel. Even though he only spoke a little English, we were able to communicate well via WeChat, and he also included us with a group chat with Catherine Lu Tour staff who were able to converse in english. Wang was very accommodating of our requests and helped point out the way to the Baidu Bus ride to the Cable Car. We also had an issue with our cable car tickets (linked to our passports) on the way down.. but this was quickly remedied by the Catherine Lu staff and our driver (turned out the cable car staff had made an error in our tickets). Highly recommend, value for money for the convenience and comfortable ride to Mutianyu.

Almost lost for words at this remarkable part of history.
It was a 'wow' moment from the time we got on the wall and the best word I can use to describe our visit was incredible. Justin was our guide and was knowledgeable and friendly. Private transfer tour is definitely the way to go for comfort especially on a hot day! We enjoyed a delicious lunch with lots of vegetables for me and a spicy chicken dish for my husband, along with rice - we were stuffed full at the end. For me taking an umbrella on a very hot day well into the 30's C was a godsend and highly recommended for taking the edge off the unrelenting heat beating down. There were also hardly any people on the wall which made it more pleasant than fighting with crowds of people like back in Beijing. I highly recommend this part of the wall to visit if you have the time to do a day trip. Catherine Lu Tours is a reputable and trustworthy company to deal with.

          The best tour in Beijing
Our guide May and our driver Mr Lu made this tour the most memorable and best part of our trip! Our day started with getting picked up from the hotel and making our way to Matianyu. On the drive May bought the tickets for which cable car would best suit us/wasn’t busy. We were guided the whole way on the wall and helped us through each gate point, which would have been very difficult not knowing any mandarin. We then headed to a local restaurant on the way to Ming’s tombs and had lunch. May and Mr Lu ordered for us and helped accommodate with me being vegetarian. Their pick was great as all the food was fabulous. We then went to Ming’s tomb and sacred way with May buying the tickets, guiding us and telling us a lot of the symbolism and history behind each monument. We were offered to buy tickets to an acrobatics show after coming back from Ming’s tomb. May and Catherine Lu organised buying the tickets and organising our seats. We arrived a bit early before the show and May offered to take us to a tea ceremony which was very close to the theatre. The acrobatic show was insane! I would definitely recommend to anyone going to Beijing and I’ve never read or seen about it online. May and Mr Lu waited for us while during the show and were there for us when it ended. Mr Lu was very sweet and had bought us cold cokes to give to us which he had remembered that we ordered at the restaurant. Overall, we had the best time thanks to the planning and accommodating nature from Catherine, May and Mr Lu. We would recommend anyone going to Beijing to book this tour.

Amanda was the BEST!!!! Booking tours with Catherine Lu before even leaving home was SO easy and we were more than impressed with the car and driver that picked us up, the details of the day flawlessly planned in advance but then executed perfectly by Amanda!!!! Amanda was our tour guide for this first day private excursion as well as the following day to the Great Wall & Ming Tombs. We could not have been happier with the entire experience over both days and were super bummed the next day when were on our own without Amanda. It would have been super difficult to navigate Beijing on our won not knowing any Chinese, never having been to China, trying to arrange all day travel, meals, purchasing tickets to the tour stops, etc. Amanda constantly checked in with us to see if we wanted to stay in some places longer, leave sooner to move on to the next, add on other things if we had spare time in our day etc. She also had some great recommendations for us during our time in the city.
Amanda truly made us super excited for the rest of our trip (which was a little over 2 weeks in total) she was super knowledgeable and thoughtful or our time and what we were interested in, willing to discuss more than just what we saw but historical questions we had as well as questions we had about China's culture in general and she was FUN!! And she even had a little surprise for us at the end of the day that we were able to take home with us - I'm not telling because I don't want to ruin it for others!! You can't go wrong when booking ANY tour with Catherine Lu!!

Amanda was a superb tour guide. Her English was excellent; she was very knowledgeable; and, most impressive, she was so empathetic to our needs. We toured Beijing on an exceptionally hot summer day and were wilting in the heat. We hadn't planned a lunch break but Amanda quickly found a fun restaurant for us so we could eat and cool off. She shared with us an amazing amount of history about each place that was easy to understand and she also helped us understand the contemporary city, explaining, for example, the hutong neighborhoods to us. I especially enjoyed our walk through those alleys, as she talked about the architecture and we nodded to the people of the neighborhood. I enthusiastically recommend Amanda as a guide to everyone.

My guide Lucy was perfect!! She was knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, didn't hesitate when asked to take lots of photos, answered all questions in a very articulate and kind way.
The food during lunch in the three days was awesome, the restaurants were of high standard and clean with lots of options to choose from.
This guided tour covered all Beijing highlights, nothing was missed and i am very happy i have chosen Catherine Lu company to do it.

Our guide Nico was great. Excellent English and knowledge. We met at our hotel and then he helped us see Chairman Mao's Mauseleum and guided us through the Forbidden City before leaving us to do some of our own exploring, exactly as we wanted. We even later ran into him with a different tour on the Jinshaling section of the great wall! Would recommend.

The tour was excellent. Our guide was superb. Lucy Lee was an excellent guide. She was especially attentive to all of our needs. When asked to stop in at a pharmacy while on tour, she did so with no hesitation. In the pharmacy she was helpful in translating so as to acquire the correct pharmaceutical product that we were in search of. She also took the time to check on line, on her mobile phone, to ensure that the product we were being offered by the pharmacist was the appropriate one to address our particular health concern. Then, since we didn't have sufficient Chinese currency, RMB, to pay for the product she made up the shortfall by changing US$ bills to cover the cost. In addition to all of that, for the rest of the tour - visiting the modern architectural features - she was very pleasant and knowledgeable. When I went charging ahead to take pictures, she kept my wife company, being very solicitous of her needs. All in all, it was an excellent adventure, which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who is planning a visit to Beijing, China.

Sasha was our guide, and she was a delight! She was knowledgeable about everything we wanted to know concerning the attractions we visited, and she was intelligent about world events to make conversation in the car interesting. We felt that we could not have had such a fulfulling trip without Sasha. We met her and the driver Mr. Hahn (spelling?) at the hotel at 8:30, and we made up the itinerary after a brief conversation of what was most important to us in having an English-speaking tour guide.
We visited the Summer Palace, the former Olympic venue, Gate of Heaven, a Hutong, and a wonderful lunch. We were brought back to our hotel happily exhausted.
If we had had more time in China, we would have gladly booked more tours with Sasha as our guide.
We weren't sure what to do about tipping. The cost of our tour was $250. We were prepared to tip Sasha 100 Rmb and the driver 50 Rmb, but at the end of the tour we were so grateful, that we tipped 120 and 60 respectively.

This last minute booking must surely have been one of the more memorable excursions undertaken with various companies. Our driver, Mr Liu, is not only a skillful driver but what impressed us most was the fact he left his driver's seat and personally opened and shut the door for me whenever entering or exiting the vehicle. Most impressive. We met Steve as our guide but concluded the day trip as a friend. Having him chaperon us felt like a friend from Uni (who has since returned) after completing his studies and glad and proud to show off his city and relay information and morsels of relevant History, even as we drive pass different historical buildings. The fact he has a great eye and ever willing to help with photography is such a bonus and a great blessing.
Having already spent a great deal of resources in terms of finance and time in deciding to visit Beijing, why not complete the experience with a quality guide that will help you create magical memories for all the right reasons.
A Michelin star equivalent tour experience that leaves you wanting for more.

In the past several years I have made four trips to China spending time in Beijing with various colleagues on 3 of the 4 trips. On each occasion I have used and been delighted with the service and guides that I hired through Catherine Lu Tours.
I have visited the Forbidden City, The Great Wall of China, Beihai Park, and various other locations around the city with their guides. On each visit the guides were prompt, courteous, and very well informed. I now feel that I truly know Beijing as a result.
I will usually explore a city on my own, but not speaking any Chinese I am delighted that I have returned to Catherine Lu time and again. If you are visiting Beijing give them a try.
        You can thank me later.

Recently my husband and I traveled with my sister, her husband, and her 9 month old baby to China and had the most amazing time! I typically do not write reviews however when we were searching for your options we kept seeing CatherineLu tours pop up and my sister had a friend that used this company and had so many positive things to say that we decided to contact them for more info. Over the course of a couple months we were able to customize all our cities, start times, activities, travel options and more for a complete customized tour for a great price. They set up our travel to and from airport which was flawless, daily transportation for the tour activities, and some amazing tour guides. We were lucky enough to have Beijing as one of the cities on our tour and we had Robert as our tour guide. Robert was excellent as he had a positive personality, tons of knowledge and created an exciting experience for us. He took us to some local restraunts where there were no tourist, very clean, and the food was outstanding all at great prices for our group. We visited all the major highlights such as Great Wall, Tieneman square, summer palace and more which is so much walking and physical activity in which our guide Robert was very patient allowing for breaks and not rushing anyone in the grouo. We had such an amazing experience with our guide Robert, the driver, and CatherineLu company that we would highly recommend them to anyone visiting China!
