- E7956SMmartinb0 contributionsGreat value, excellent guide, a full day of fun, history and shots for the album. As Nike would say... just do it!Our tour guide, Mary Wang, was the first highlight of this excellent tour. The car was spacious, clean and comfortable... perfectly suited to the relatively short trip. The experience on the wall was pure magic (breathtaking in each sense of the word! We saw some people struggling for air). The chairlift to the top was a little surprising as it had been described as a cable car, but certainly better than the alternate long hike hike up to the Wall. The luge ride was OK, but too many people all going very slowly so the "thrills" were missing. Beware if you're over 60... they'll check most "older" looking passports and send you off to ride back down on the chairlift if they see you are 60 or over. A lot of people were very frustrated having queued in the cold for a long time, only to be sent away in disappointment. Our guide, Mary, made sure I got through without a passport cheque, although the guard complained that he, too, was being monitored and would be scolded for not checking. A surprisingly fun, happy and informative day, made all the better for Mary's cheery, intelligent and sensitive commentary and professional guiding skills. And super value for money. PS: we were surprised to meet two guys who had travelled from Beijing Capital airport for this tour instead of waiting out a 9 hour stop over at the airport... we didn't know that could be done and will certainly take note for future long layovers.Written November 23, 2024
- Awaisansari0 contributionsThe Great Wall Of China and Forbidden CityAmazing one-day tour for travelling solo to this place with a group tour knowing new people around and climbing The Great Wall Of China. Beautiful once a lifetime experience. Forbidden City gives you the feel of the old kings era and their fights.Written November 16, 2024

- ntpferreira0 contributionsGood option to one-day excursionThis is a good option to cover the three major highlights in Beijing only in one day. Nevertheless, for those who have to move to Empark hotel to start the tour they will be charged addionally and unfairly if they ask the taxi service provided by the tour guide. Also, the tickets to the cable car in the Great Wall are not included and you'll have to pay it apart. Overall, I'd buy it again due to the fact I had only one day to visit Beijing.Written October 24, 2024
- ang196910 contributionsGood to a pointEnjoyed greatly Tian'anmen Square, the Forbidden city the lunch (which was very good) and jade factory followed by Great Wall at Badaling. At this point we thought we would be heading back to Beijing and the hotel. At this point the tour turned into a shopping expedition. Chinese medicine centre stop was extremely hard sell and not enjoyable at all. Trying to charge £1000+ and frightening people into buying medicines. The guide then wanted to take us to a silk seller and go looking for cheap fake handbags and watches but we refused and got off the bus as soon as we could. Had been on bus since 7am and could have been back at hotel by 4pm but was almost 6pm. The guide only seemed interested in selling at this point. Also was lead to believe would only be a group of no more than 9 but there were 12 in the group which made the mini bus not as spacious and waiting around for others increased.Written October 9, 2024
- NovemC40 contributionsCommercial tour with bad experienceIt’s a very commercial tour I don’t blame the guide coz he is polite and his sharing is informative You will be brought to a weird Jade centre and asked to listen to some weird jade talks and of coz expected to purchase And tea Station for workshops too But the most unacceptable part is the coach, it’s tiny!!! We can nearly fit our legs in the seat It’s 4 hours travelling, super uncomfortable!!! Lunch, don’t expect any Chinese tradition food, it’s low cost “buffet” Not recommendedWritten October 9, 2024
- Karol19060 contributionsUnexpected Shopping TourThe guide was a nice lady but: 1) The driver was one of the worst if have ever met 2) The driver and the tour guide were discussing really load during the trip 3) They brought us shopping for tea 4) They brought us shopping for pearls 5) Food in the pearl market, where we didn’t want to go, was horrible. 6) The tour guide was hard to understand because od poor english pronunciationWritten October 3, 2024

- eppritchett30 contributionsGreat Tour Experience for a First-Time Chinese VisitorI completed this tour in June of 2024. I had an amazing time on the tour with guide Jenny. She did a great job keeping me informed of when I would be picked up from the hotel, as well as the schedule of events for the day. She even assisted me in arranging a train ride from the Beijing railway station after the tour. Personally, one of the best things about this tour was the clear communication throughout the process. Jenny's English diction was superb and I never had any issues understanding what she was communicating to me or our group. Additionally, her knowledge of Chinese history and customs is deep. I learned so much about Chinese heritage through this tour. Finally, my experience in visiting several amazing Chinese locations would've been less enjoyable without the use of a professional guide. Jenny was able to bypass several long lines at each of the stops, ensuring our group had more time at each location. Overall, I enjoyed this tour thoroughly and definitely feel that it is worth the money paid. Thanks again to Jenny and the tour company.Written July 1, 2024
- estelledF8639RW0 contributionsAll you need to do about Beijing in 1 dayPerfect trip to get all you need to know about Beijing in one day. It was an intense but very educational and interesting day. Tiananmen Square, forbidden city, jade factory, nice lunch, Great Wall and finally a tea ceremony in a tea store. What I loved was that we were only 4 guests and so it all went very efficiently. The guide and driver was very friendly and got us some nice stories. I would recommend.Written June 29, 2024

- jhonr7610 contributionsMemorable Experience!I recently took the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu Full-Day Tour from Beijing, and it was fantastic, thanks to our outstanding tour guide, Jenny. Jenny's warm and friendly nature made the tour enjoyable from start to finish. Her deep knowledge of the Great Wall and Chinese history added great value, bringing the ancient site to life with engaging stories and insights. She handled all logistics smoothly, from transportation with her driver friend. Delicious lunch, and ensured everyone was comfortable and informed. Jenny's guidance at Mutianyu was invaluable, helping us find the best routes and photo spots. If you're planning this tour, I highly recommend requesting Jenny. Her enthusiasm and expertise made our visit truly memorable.Written May 15, 2024

Pros:
It was fast, they picked up, and left us next to our hotel, it was low season so only the two of us on the tour.
Cons:
The guide and driver think you are:
1) ignorant
2) stupid
3) full of money
4) they want to finish as early as possible
5) they don't give a sh*t about you
The guide did the minimum explanation and pushed us through the full tour to go faster, so they both could finish early and go home. They convinced us to go on a different part of the wall because of "parking problems" for the part of the wall we wanted to visit. We hade 1h30 on the wall, which was quite short, and after that the food was bad. The tea and jade shops are mandatory stops that were not advertised beforehand, and are completely useless.

The Great Wall of China is one of the most amazing constructions in the world. The skills involved in building the Great Wall are impressive. In Chinese, it is known as the "wan li charng cheng," or "10,000 mile wall". The Great Wall is easy to get to from Beijng. You can make climb on the Great Wall when you're inspecting it, it's worth the effort and very surprising.

Our tour guide Michael was very informative and spoke near perfect English. The Ming Tomb tour is more like a museum and not quite what I had expected. The architecture including the huge wooden columns was the savior for me. I've been to other parts of the Wall before and this was just as impressive. The lunch stop at the jade factory was as expected. Mostly just a sales presentation, but the food was very good. We skipped the tea ceremony at the end, as we knew it would just be just another sales pitch.

Great wall is a spectacular experience. But I was disappointed for the Ming Tombs. I should ask the exact location of Ming Tombs.
I was expecting to visit Ding ling which is located under ground with the coffins of the king and queen...
However, we only visited the Cheng ling. It looked like a small version of the imperial palace and did not visit the garden.

A truly remarkable experience. Seeing this part of history firsthand was one of the many highlights of my year! I was humbled by the experience and would go again in a heartbeat. One of the most interesting free activities to do if you ever find yourself in Beijing

China's Great Wall is a barrier against foreign soldiers entering mainland China, who are described as barbarians. Access to China by northern soldiers were countered the Great Wall, manned by Chinese forces. The construction of the Great Wall of China began in 221 BC and continued off and on until the establishment of the Ming Dynasty (1360-1644 AD). These days, visitors can take a trip to Badaling from Beijing and take a walk along the Great Wall of China that still exists today.

The tour information is deceiving. The tour could have been shortened by 3 hours if we weren’t forced to tour a Jade “factory” and Tea room. While the Jade factory was mentioned in the tour description, it was in context of during a lunch. The first stop was a 1.5 hr factory visit while we waited for people to shop and the tour guide to get his cut. Then at lunch (which was very bad) there was another Jade “factory” that we had to walk through. There was no mention of a Tea tasting (another sales gimmick) yet we spent over an hour at the end of the day.
Jackie Lie was a bad guide. Very bad English and he repeated himself over and over like a tape recording. He has been doing it to long.
We won’t book Viator again!

It is one of the greatest wonders of the world and when you see it there is no need to question why. We visited the Mutianyu section a 1/2 hrs trip from Beijing. Exceptional as was our tour guide Ivy from China Highlights (see review China Highlights).

Hi May I know if I book this tour, the pick up point can be at Grand Millennium Hotel at No 7 Dong San Huan Middle Road?
Written July 30, 2018
You would have to confirm with the tour provider but my experience is that they are very accommodating regarding the pick up locations. Our tour was small, only three people. My wife and I were picked up at our hotel lobby.
