- After pickup from your downtown Beijing hotel, your guide will explain the history of the wall, as you travel through the countryside, including how this 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) section was first restored in 1986. On arrival, choose whether to ascend by cable car or chairlift. Your guide will accompany you, as you walk between ancient watchtowers and dramatic parapets. Choose to descend by cable car, chairlift, or the thrilling toboggan track. If you’ve upgraded, enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch at a local restaurant. After this, you might choose to visit Mutianyu Village or pick fruit in its orchards before your driver drops you back to your hotel.

We went to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. We started by getting picked up from our hotel in a large, new, clean van. There was bottled water for us too. Our driver, Mr Gu was so sweet.
Maggie, our tour guide, has impeccable English. She is fluent - as she can joke in English. Maggie was filled with knowledge of Chinese history and architecture too... but we also had carefree conversations too.
When we got to the Great Wall, we had the option of going up in a cable car or ski lift, as well as the choice to toboggan down. Tip: Toboggan down!!!
Maggie accompanied us to the Wall and also walked with us... which is unusual as other tours I did, the guide sent us on our way. Maggie told us a little bit about the history of the wall... but she was so sweet and mostly took out photo :)
After the Wall, she took us to a nice local restaurant and was very accommodating to our dietary needs.
Overall, it was a memorable experience. We will always recommend Catherine Lu Tours.

My wife and I had a layover in Beijing so we decided to go to the Great Wall during that time.
One of our friends had used this company before and recommended them to us and we were so lucky to have used them!
Amazing service, better experience, and the best tour guide (Joyce)! She knows her stuff in and out and is so fun to speak too! She has quite a bit of knowledge not just on the Great Wall but China in general and had very good delightful conversations with her. If you take this tour, I highly recommend asking for her as she is truly passionate about her job and ensures you have Amazing experience! Thank you again Joyce, we love the picture you took of us!

I was tasked with finding a tour company to take 40 MBA students who have never been to Beijing from our hotel to the great wall. Our tour guide, Nico, met me in the lobby of our hotel right at 7:30am as promised with a nice brand new bus (that accommodates up to 55 people) parked right out front ready for us to board. Very Clean very nice bus!
Before arriving to the Great Wall, Nico explained the history and cultural significance of the wall and gave us great tips on where to walk and vendors to avoid (it is very expensive in some parts!) Once we arrived, Nico quickly grabbed all of our tickets and got us all up to the wall seamlessly! You have to take a 3 minute shuttle bus up to the entrance and then take a chair lift.
Something VERY important to note here: Nico knows all of the employees at the gates and security lines! He is SO resourceful and knows how to solve any issues that might come up when traveling.
After the tour, Nico and our bus driver took us 15 minutes away to a local restaurant that fed all 40 of us with no problems at all!
They kept feeding us and feeding us with some of the greatest food I have ever had! Beers and drinks free as well!
Nico was amazing! He made it look so easy and made my life a breeze. All 40 of us were so happy and satisfied by the end of the day and we were sad it was over!
PLEASE do yourself a favor and chose Catherine Lu Tours!
If I am ever back in Beijing with my family or another large group I will chose Catherine Lu Tours!

Simply amazing. Great Wall of China is definitely a must visit place. And much better when you do with the right guide/person. Jenny was really amazing. Very knowledgeable about the history and the places to go. We were able to skip the crowds and had a really great time! Thanks Jenny!

Was picked up at the hotel lobby and then taken to our car, which had a selection of refreshments for the journey. On the way, facts about Beijing and The Great Wall were spoken about and discussions exchanged regarding Chinese and British lifestyles. Once at the venue, we took the cable car up to the wall and proceeded with our journey through watch towers, steep steps and fascinating views. I decided to toboggan down the mountain along with Jenny, (our tour guide) who also spoke about more facts about the wall towards tower 6. We stopped off for a delicious lunch and then made a detour to Tiananmen Sq on the way back where again, many facts and figures were mentioned. I fully recommend Jenny, as not only does she speak great English but, is a friendly fun person.

We took this tour yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. Jenny was not only knowledgable about Beijing and the Great Wall but also gave us a great insight in to Chinese culture and day to day life. We were picked up at our hotel, offered a range of soft drinks or beer in the car and driven to the Wall. On the way back we had a fantastic lunch in an authentic local restaurant and diverted via Tiananmen Square on the way back to the hotel.
All in all, best possible experience had, would not hesitate to recommend Jenny.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour which was just long enough, but not too long to ingest all the knowledge that Connie shared during the tour.
Lena’s detailed knowledge of the Great Wall, especially of all the successful & attempted invasions from foreign adversaries was fascinating.
Much like another walking tour we did the pace & timing was just right given the high season as we were able to see everything without it being too crowded and the way you managed our itinerary meant we really didn’t have to wait anywhere for any real period of time. Just be prepared to get up and out pretty sharply in the morning and wear suitable walking shoes / trainers as they will be needed.
Along with Lena’s excellent command of English we would highly recommend her and the tour company to anyone that is interested on this kind of tour.
Being lucky with the weather didn’t do any harm as the early morning sunshine and fewer crowds made this an overall breath-taking experience.
PS to Lena – we are just sorry you got stuck behind a slow driver on the toboggan ride as we had a great time going doing so fast!!! The toboggan is a must for any inner child in you ;-).

Our tour guide Lena was great. She was punctual and friendly. Lena explained the history of the Great Wall and told about Chinese culture. She took us for a traditional Chinese lunch.
The Mutianyu section was a good choice because it was less-crowded. The toboggan ride is highly recommended. We really enjoyed our tour to the Mutianyu Great Wall.

Our guide, Lena, was excellent. Called us the day before to confirm details, met us at our hotel with our driver. Two hour ride to the Great Wall. Definitely recommend the Mutianyu section. We visited on a Monday and it was very quiet. No queuing for the chairlift up or toboggan run down. Once on the Wall the views are breathtaking and the engineering feat stunning. Be prepared for steep climbs/descents as you explore. Fun lunch on the return journey.

We will have a 1.5 year old with us. Does the vehicle provide carseat? How strenuous will it be for the tour?

I am not sure about the car seat, but the tour company can let you know. The car was actually a very nice minivan. Regarding the 1.5 year old. Our kids are older now, but we would advise you that the Wall in general is steep hills followed by a lot of stairs, followed by another steep hill and a lot of stairs. If you look online at photos you can see. I guess you could just do a short section if it gets to be too much.
What time is pick up and how long is the entire trip? I am running a race on the 19 and need to pick up my registration packet at the Changping gymnasium before 6pm. Would the driver be able to drop us off there by 5:30?

We used Catherine Lu Tours so can only speak for them. Both times we used them we emailed our request of pick up times & what we wanted to do. They accommodated everything we asked for. It was our 8 hours of whatever we wanted and were patient & flexible. They will know the timing of travel etc. Hope this helps.
