- B8075VDlaurar00Must do in Beijing!Thank you Kelly and Jim for a great introduction to food in Beijing! The breakfast food tour is a great way to see some local spots in the city, and the food was exceptional. Thank you for introducing me to a dirty latte!
- K241AMclaireh00Excellent value! You absolutely get your money's worth with this tour! Kelly and her guide-in-training Jim did a fantastic job taking us around Beijing, explaining the history of the city and taking us to some really local spots with food that we never would have otherwise tried. We were stuffed to the brim with wonderful local delicacies and we even got some recommendations on where to eat during the rest of our visit, which also did not disappoint! Thank you again Kelly and Jim!
- JessicaL380500Go hungry and pace yourself! There were six food stops and a 7th coffee stop to wrap everything up. I have lived in Beijing for four years now and still experienced so many new foods and great historical information about the dishes and the Hutong we were walking through. Our guide Kelly was on time, super knowledgable, and helped us with pacing our appetites! I highly recommend this tour. We did it with two teenagers and three adults on a glorious 10 AQI day.
- I9845HYcarlad00Tuk Tuk fun!The Lost Plate food tour is highly recommended. It is a fun evening tasting delicious dishes around Beijing. The Tuk Tuk drive is fun! The guide Licia was amazing and very knowledgeable.

Meet Fancy, a culinary expert who'll help you to prepare Yunnan Little Pot Rice Noodles, Ghost Chicken Salad and Palooda drink in her kitchen school. Her husband Li runs a successful bakery next door to the kitchen so an excellent excuse to take-away delights such as the popular Szechuan pepper bagels, pain au chocolat, and red tea and cheese bagels - delicious.
- 609ish00Delicious food off the beaten pathWe had an awesome tour with Kelly today! The food was very delicious, well-chosen and authentic. We enjoyed it a lot and will definitely recommend this great tour. Our lovely guide Kelly made this tour a special experience in our daily Beijing life :-)
- kevinamyp00Highly recommend this food tour! After 2 years of living in Beijing I signed up for this tour to do with 2 of my local friends and we had SUCH a great morning! Our guide, Kelly was incredible - she was friendly & professional and had SO much knowledge of local culture, history AND the food! My local friends learned new things & tried new restaurants/shops they’d never been to. I loved the selection/range of foods that we sampled - I wasn’t a ‘fan’ of all the dishes but I tried everything & discovered some delicious new dishes! The Hutong area that we toured was beautiful & full of history. Kelly spent some extra time with us making our experience above & beyond what we had expected. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!
- L7732CBirene00Fun Variety of Breakfast FoodThe Lost Plate Hutong Breakfast Tour was awesome! It was great to see so much local food and taste a good number of popular breakfast items. I definitely wouldn't have gone into some of the restaurants unless someone guided me in, so I'm really grateful for getting this opportunity to enjoy some local food with a great guide. I highly recommend this food tour for anyone who is curious about the variety of breakfast foods in Beijing and wants to try more than 10 items. Prepare your stomachs!
- SteLo8200Crazy and nice Hutong experience:)It was an amazing tour with lots of hidden place to discover - Baiju included ;) We visited 5 nice places with totally different food and drinks...cool thing!
- moniquecover00Delicious food and great tour guide! We had a great hutong breakfast tour with Evon. She was very knowledgeable about hutong history and the various food stops. She was patient as our group walked and lagged; we had children in our group. All of the food stops were delicious and filling! All were unique. This tour is a MUST if you’re visiting Beijing as a tourist or even if you live here and want to try something new.
- Riesmr00Highly Recommend, would eat again!Great tour, professionally organized, and well worth it. Even as a resident, some local foods are a little harder to discover and try, so the guided tour, explanations, and background made a huge difference to being able to experience local Chinese cuisine and some of its culture and history. Lost Plate is super professional, from initial contact, to confirmation, and follow-up; they truly want to help out. We had some questions and they provided immediate feedback. Our guide spoke outstanding English and Chinese, and was very knowledgeable of local history and customs. Her insights made visiting the Hutong a richer experience. Food was great, varied, and there was more than enough to eat, beverages are included if/when you want them, and we were stuffed at the end. We considerably expanded our options for future breakfasts out in town. If you don't discover and learn to eat Chinese food, you are missing a major part of the history, culture, and experience of living in / visiting China, as much ofd the food is delicious, exciting, interesting, diverse, and so, so, so inexpensive. We are currently signed on for the Hutong Dinner Tour and are planning the Four Corners of China Restaurant Tour with Lost Plate as well. Highly Recommend, would eat again!
- W8951JKseanc00Beijing Brekkie BeatHey, how else are you going to get to sample Beijing breakfasts, as consumed by ordinary people, anywhere else? Our tour leader was knowledgable and attentive to our needs. The whole experience was an interesting window on the world of Hutong eats as we watched our various breakfast items being prepared in five different locations. Will now seek out my favourites around where I live, now I have tasted them and know the Mandarin names.
- lhswz00so unforgetable!!My friends and I had this breakfast tour on a cold winter morning, but everything is beyond our expectations. We strolled in an interesting hutong area while trying so many tasty food including street snacks and a good coffee at a lovely Cafe. We had great fun!Kelly, our guide,is so great! She told us so many stories about the food as well as the hutong. If you want to try the authentic local food, the Lost Plate breakfast tour is highly recommended.
- ThomasHTM00SO MUCH FOOD!My fiance and I went on the breakfast food tour at the end of December. This tour was totally worth the early start and braving the cold weather. There were about 6 stops in total, and each stop was accompanied by a load of background information from our lovely tour guide, Kelly. The food itself was absolutely amazing for the most part. While I'll admit that I didn't find the temple snacks particularly tasty, the history we were given about them was fascinating. We also came home with enough spare food for a late lunch! The location is also great, and it just a short walk away from other tourist stops such as Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Thanks Kelly for a great time!
- lddaz00Amazing experience! We are return guests of LP from Shunyi international school, this is their brand new route of the morning tour. Even funnier and more foods. Kelly is still the guide, she is really friendly and knows the hutong and the foods. We had a great fun on a chilly Saturday morning!Hope the LP can explore new route!

Great tour, with great food. Every dish was different. And with the small group it was great to share the table. The guide Andy speaks great English and can tell about the food and it’s origins

Can’t recommend this experience enough to anyone visiting Beijing. I went with my partner and we were in a group of 5 with another couple and solo traveller. Our guide (Shitien, sorry i hope I spelt that correctly!) was great at making sure we felt relaxed and all got chatting to each other. We visited four local restaurants, all offering a different Beijing style dish. Shitien explained the history of the dishes and the the areas we visited but kept it fun, informal and relaxed.
The food was incredible, and off the main roads and busy areas so have a true and authentic insight into Chinese good and culture.
We’re absolute foodies, and to be honest struggled in knowing where to go or what to try in Beijing so this tour was perfect to try something we may have otherwise missed out on. Thank you so much 10/10

Our tour guide Licia was so much fun and so nice. She really made the tour feel so cozy and welcoming as if we were hanging out with friends. And her knowledge of the food was wonderful. I could not have asked for a better guide and tour! The restaurant choices were amazing. I absolutely recommend Lost Plate and our tour guide Licia!

We were a very small group of 4 + the guide. this was because we won the tour as a raffle prize at a charity ball in Beijing. I think that usually it is 8 -10 people which would be fine. The company running the tour was "Lost Plate"

What is an appropriate amount to tip our guide?
Herschelian
Beijing87 contributions
Tipping is not customary in China. Americans find this hard to understand as it is so much part of the culture in the USA. Here in China tipping is just not done, not for taxi drivers, hairdressers, restaurant staff, it is not expected. It has never been part of the financial system here and some people might even be offended if you offer a tip.
Hi- why do you need our passport information to book this tour? Thank you.

I had to show my passport for all tours in China and when checking into hotels. No big deal, it's just the nature of the country, just have to go with it. Like having your bags scanned before travelling on the metro every single time in Beijing and Shanghai!!

What time does this tour start? Also do they offer hotel pick ups?
Yorkshirelass.travels

Ours started at 6:20pm. They don’t offer pick ups. You meet at a subway station exit. The subway is very easy to use in Beijing. Or get your hotel to arrange a taxi, taxis are cheap.

Hi, I would love to book this food tour, but not sure how to get from the Beijing Friendship Hotel to the starting point Lama Temple and return to Friendship hotel after tour? Any ideas? We are a group of 6 adults, Thanks Belinda.

Go by subway. 6 adults will need two taxis and traffic is dire. Subway has English ticket machines and customer service desks. It is easy, clean, cheap. Get bar to call you an Uber after 11pm
Hi! I need the service back to my hotel, is this available or is it possible to hire it at an extra cost?

Our guide was very helpful, called an Uber for us, stayed with us until the car arrived and made sure our driver knew where to go. Taxis/Uber is not expensive in China, but rather hard to get. The apps are all in Chinese, most drivers speak 0 english, and most important, the taxis just don't stop when they see "non-local" person raising the hand. Don't want the "embarrassment " of not understanding the passengers. But the guide was super nice and even yelled at the driver couple times before letting us go with him.
