Your tour starts at 8am, and your professional Great Wall trek guide will come to pick you up at your hotel in Beijing. You will take your private car to XiZhazi of Huairou County (2 hours driving), then you will walk through a forest and walk towards west direction on Jiankou Great Wall. You will find this section of the Wall is rarely visited by the tourists. During September and October, a few Chinese tourists interested in hiking will also come to this place for fun. Jiankou Great Wall is well-known for its steepness. There is one section is called "Ca Bian Guo" which means the wall is so narrow that only one person can go through at a time. Moreover, you will encounter a section of the Wall is named "San Shi Ba Deng", which is with 70 to 80 degree slop. "Mini Potala Palace" is another exciting section of the wall, which is built on the narrow and steep mountain range. Once you reach "sky stairs" there, you will start going down from the Wall. The entire hiking time is about 4 to 5 hours, and you surely will enjoy it very much. After your tour is finished, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Beijing.

James & Peter are amazing tour guides with excellent English and the perfect level of bringing to life the beautiful and amazing history of the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square. I recommend both of these highly qualified guides to help bring the jewel of Beijing to life! Pro tip: Ask Peter to do a back flip!

A great way to see the Wild Wall
This was a terrific hike that exposed us to a wild section of the Great Wall with stunning views and steep climbs. A great option for those looking to avoid the crowds and test their hiking prowess! James is an excellent guide who looks after his customers' every need, including transportation and food, and provides helpful context. Will definitely be doing another hike with him!

Family hike on Great Wall with amazing views
We had such an amazing hike with Peter, who was an excellent guide. He tailed everything to our family’s needs as we were travelling with our 3 kids ages 10 and 14. Peter shared so much interesting facts and history and was so friendly and engaging with the children. The hike itself was breathtaking with views of the ancient Great Wall winding through forests and mountains. I cannot recommend highly enough

Beautiful scenery and a nice hike at the Great Wall.
Thanks to our guide James for bringing us to a wonderful part of the Great Wall. The view from the hike was amazing! He told us interesting facts about the Great Wall and the area around, and made sure that we had a really nice day from the moment he picked us up, and until we were back in the city again.

Absolute best pick for a complete 1 day Datong Grottoes and Temple visit!
We are so glad we picked this tourguide! A greatest day in the Datong area! Perfect english speaking guide Anna, very relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable, close local connection with the area and proud of the historic heritage. She has excellent feel for the needs of her travel party and arranged a perfect car - very important since tje two sights are quite far apart. The trip however is cut in two parts with a stop at a fantastic restaurant! Could not have been better. If you read this, thanks again, Anna!

          Experience the wall in solitude
Not to miss trip to see unrestored parts of the Wall, amazing views, very good & friendly guide who clearly knows the way and can navigate this part safely. Provided water, walking sticks and a lovely lunch in a local restaurant. Car & driver are excellent as well. Don’t attempt it alone - need to navigate the woods & avoid closed off & dangerous sections of the wall as local gvt is blocking access.

Avoid the crowds and see the Great Wall in it's unreconstructed state
Being relatively far out from Beijing, the Gubeiikou section of the wall is ideal if you want to avoid crowds and see the wall in a relatively unreconstructed state. We were there on a beautiful Wednesday in May for three hours and saw exactly two other people. The section is also relatively flat, although we still climbed 74 floors according to my phone, Our guide, Peter, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The tour was entirely private, just our group, so we could go at our own pace and take all the pictures we wanted. Lunch was a delicious addition. It comes after the hike, so bring some snacks and eat breakfast. There are cheaper options, but you will not regret spending the money.

          Amazing experience!
I had an amazing experience taking this private hiking tour. I didn't want to go only to the typical tourist spots. So this tour is the perfect combination because you start in the most pristine zone of Jiankou and end up in Mutianyu, where you can take the cable car to go down. I was a bit anxious about the intensity of the hike, but I can confirm that it is completely doable. The first section of Jiankou was my favourite part; we really had the Wall for ourselves. My guide, Peter, was funny and experienced and since I was travelling by myself, he was very kind, offering to take some pictures. Worth every single penny.

Not to be missed while in Beijing!
Since it was a chinese holiday, the tour company decided to begin the day earlier to avoid the crowds and traffic jam on the way back, which was a great call. We’ve arrived at the Great Wall, when almost no one was there! I was able to walk around places where the wall was completely destroyed, partially reconstructed and fully reconstructed. The views where amaaaazing! I know this is an expensive tour, specially if you go solo, such as myself, but it’s totally worth it. This company is very professional, the driver was great, and the guide was a lovely person to be around :) He explained a lot of curiosities about the wall, as long as its history, and answered all my questions. Lunch was also great, pretty local, with veg options :) They provide enough water and snacks a long the way. The hike is pretty easy, not much physical effort required. I can’t express enough my gratitude for this tour! Not to be missed while in Beijing!

Hearty hike to unrestored portion of the Great Wall and Summer Palace walking tour
Our guide, Peter, was wonderful on this adventure. Started out with an easy hotel pickup in a new car, travel 90 minutes to a rural area for the start of an hour long steep hike up to the unrestored part of the Great Wall, an hour climbing around the sections of the wall, hiking down for 30 minutes before a fantastic place for lunch, with a Summer Palace walking tour to wrap up the day before hotel drop off. We felt safe the entire time but wished we had brought hiking boots as the hike was on rocky ground and very steep. Peter brought hiking poles for us and they were extremely helpful as well as water for us to drink for all the exertion. I was hoping to see the wall go into the water at Huanghuacheng, but we did not see the lake or a restored section of the wall on this trip. The Summer Palace was stunning and another tour guide, Sue, came along to share facts about the location with us. The food was AMAZING and we enjoyed the adventure!

Great trip to the Forbidden City in Beijing
James is an excellent guide. He knows his history and is able to explain in a straightforward way. He is very polite and attentive and with a good sense of humour. I would highly recommend James for your visit to Beijing.

Walking along the wall with James
We booked a private tour along the Great Wall of China with James, and what a day it was! The weather couldn’t have been better as James led us to the unrestored section of the wall to start. As we walked and marveled at the breathtaking scenery, James shared his extensive knowledge of the area’s history. The hike led us through stunning spots with postcard-worthy views. Eventually, we reached the restored section of the wall, continuing our hike while soaking in the beauty around us. James had thoughtfully provided snacks and water, which were much appreciated on a hot day. We concluded our adventure with a delicious local lunch, every dish was yummy. Thank you, James, for an unforgettable experience—it was a pleasure from start to finish.

          Amazing Views and Great Guide.
Jason was a great guide, and the walk was well worth it! Went while it was very cold, but this meant the views were spectacular from the top! Going along the more abandoned parts of the wall was so much fun, and was a lot more unique and interesting than the restored parts. You do get to see the restored parts at the end of the walk as well.

James is simply a masterful guide. His knowledge of the wild parts of the Great Wall is unmatched. He both takes the time to explain the environment, it's history with local flavor in addition to the technical aspects of hiking this often treacherous, rarely used part of the wall. In our 4 hour hike, we climbed 70 deg stairs, highly difficult and technical passages all with Jame's expertise guiding the way. We really can't thank him enough for a spectacular day, in and out of light rain that led to a truly memorable experience. The Jiankou part of the Wall is a must do for any serious technical hiker and James is only guy who we'd venture out there.

This was a wonderful and unique opportunity to see a part of the Great Wall that has remained basically untouched for centuries. The views are spectacular. When we approached one of the highest points - the so-called Flying Eagle - two real eagles appeared, flying over us! The hiking is not easy, as there are many steep and rough patches to overcome and the path can be quite slippery at times. But our guide Peter was amazing: so knowledgeable and helpful, he provided interesting information about history and nature, as well as invaluable tips on how to overcome the hiking challenges along the way. And he patiently waited for us when we slowed down - the trip took a bit longer than we anticipated, but it was definitely worthy! Highly recommended to those who are not afraid of taking some risk and making some effort to climb a truly authentic section of the Great Wall!

I can't say enough about this tour...I travel to Beijing for multiple weeks at a time for business and up until now had never been to The Great Wall. I've just never been interested in the standard tours to the more restored sections that are packed with other tourists and end at a requisite shopping experience. If that's what you're into, then that's great - but, if you want to see the older parts of the wall and have a more peaceful experience, then this is a fantastic option. I would characterize the hike as strenuous uphill for the first third, rolling terrain while you are on the unrestored section of the wall (unless you do the Oxhorn, which I didn't) for the second third, and then strenuous downhill on tired legs for the last third. But, Allen is a great guide and easy conversationalist, so the day and miles flew by. We even stopped at a great local Sichuan restaurant for lunch, after he learned that I love Sichuan food. I highly recommend this tour for someone who has some hiking miles under their belt or those who are physically fit. There are some areas where you need to climb up over walls and scramble up rocks, which is all part of the fun if you are able to do so, but if not you might have some trouble completing the journey.

This is the second hike I have done with James. Both have been spectacular! Newly relocated to Beijing I wanted someone that really knows the wall to introduce me the the trails and parts I have been searching for. James does not disappoint! He worked with me on where to begin our Great Wall Journey and how to proceed to our next hike. He listened to what we wanted and delivered. James is prompt, responsive and knowledgeable. He also takes the hike at your pace without you feeling like you are slow or fast. He knows what he is doing. Lunches are a big treat at the end. James takes care of the ordering and you can just enjoy. Anyone that enjoys a hike and a view into the Wild Great Wall would be fortunate to have James as their guide. I am scheduling our third hike right now!

Had a great day with James!
He picked me up from my hotel promptly at 7:30AM, just as was arranged the night before. We drove approximately two hours to a parking lot where we were the only car. This was a good sign, I had been to the main tourist section of the wall and I did not want that again, too many people. We hiked for about 30 minutes all generally uphill. James was very conscious of me as his client. Asking if breaks were needed and pausing to talk about the area and the Wall. He was clearly not rushing. When we got to the wall James explained the best path to climb to get on to the top, always cautious of safety. This carried all the way though the nearly 3 hours on the wall.
There are some very steep sections on this hike and areas where a path around some rumble is needed to be taken. It was great to have an experienced guild like James to help navigate.
Speaking of experienced. James mentioned that he has been to 40 different sections of the wall and generally hikes about 200 days on the wall.
If you are looking for a tour of the Great Wall that is off the beaten path, I highly recommend Greatwall TrekClub Tours and James!

Had an absolutely amazing trip with James! Picked me up from my hotel and brought me to this really really cool section of the great wall. Friends who have lived in China had never even heard of it it was so hidden. And, that was NOT because it wasn't superb. It was because it is such a well kept secret. the only people we came across were another trip led by this same company. In total, we saw three other people during 4 hours on the wall. Compare that to more tourist-y sections and you'll be very pleasantly surprised. That being said, it is a very challenging hike. Don't go if you're afraid of heights. But, if you can do it it is so worth it!

My wife and I wanted to have a unique experience on the Great Wall. Everything about our trip was perfect. Our tour guide James called the night before to confirm our hike and was prompt and ready to hike. He informed us of interesting facts about China on the way to the Wall and was ready to hike as soon as we got there. He made a point to take care of my wife as we had just found out she was pregnant days before our trip, and showed care and interest in giving us the best experience while keeping her safe. I️ would recommend this tour of the Great Wall to anyone, as there are no tourists and you see a part of the Great Wall unrestored in all of its beauty. I️ couldn’t go on enough about our experience, thank you so much for every aspect of our trip!

We booked the private hiking tour to the Great Wall and got James as our tour guide. He is a very friendly person with good English communication. We got picked up at our hotel in a comfortable car and went to the starting point of the hiking tour. From there we went onto the Great Wall and had some amazing views! After the hike James brought us to a local restaurant where we had the best Chinese food we have tried so far. It was delicious. After the lunch James brought us to the airport.

Everything was just perfect. We had an amazing day. If you want to visit the Great Wall I definitely recommend to book a private tour here. James has service at his top priority and wants to make sure you have a perfect day.

I would rate this tour 10/10 without a doubt.

We booked this tour because it promised to stay away from crowded tourist sites, and we absolutely loved it! Peter was a very good guide, very knowledgable and friendly. The tour is indeed challenging, a bit of prior climbing-experience an advantage. But nothing you couldn't handle. You are rewarded by a fascinating piece of unrestored wall, and very few other people. Plus, the lunch later on was delicious. Thanks for a great day!

The Great Wall hiking day trip was my personal vacation highlight!
James, our tour guide, was super friendly, funny and took care of everything. He organised the pickup in Bejing, guided us on the Great Wall and introduced us to traditional chinese food after the hike.
This day trip was way better than the typical way of visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu which I have also done during my trip. You get to be active, see nicer parts of the Great Wall and experience a true adventure!
