- 890romaink0 contributionsGreat visit with Mike ✌️🇨🇳We did an amazing tour of the forbidden city with Mike. Lots of stories détails and captivating us throughout this 4h long visit. I warmly recommend to do this to know more and learn a lot about this historical place !Written September 10, 2024
- Janie S0 contributionsA great tour.Jack was our guide for this tour for my husband and I traveling with our adult son. He spoke English well and was interested in learning new words and phrases from us. He was very knowledgeable about Chinese history and the places we visited. He moved at a very fast pace which was perfect for us. Jack suggested adding on a Chinese acrobatics performance before lunch which we enjoyed. He helped us before dropping us off at the hotel make a reservation for Tian’anmen Square the next day through We Chat. It had been closed due to the African forum when we toured Forbidden City a prior day with a different company who had told us incorrectly that Tiananmen Square was also closed on Mondays so we thought we were not going to be able to see it before leaving China.Written September 10, 2024
- taisetu160 contributionsForbidden city tour with Kevinwhat made this tour so successful was Kevin our guide as his knowledge was fantastic and detailed his English was great and I could understand him He made us feel relaxed and his sense of humour and delivery made the tour even more engaging I really learned a lot about the history and architecture of china The tour itself was well planned, earpieces so we could always hear what was being explained Despite it being a last minute booking all went well and the meeting instructions very clear | easy to follow and precise Great value for money Well done Kevin I wiikd never have gained so much knowledge without youWritten September 10, 2024
- minc6840 contributionsBest tour ever!Kevin is an excellent tour guide! Highly recommend! He is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, fun and funny. There were three of us in our group and we were part of his tour group. He gave individual attention to each of us without compromising the rest of the group. He paid attention if people were bored or too hot or needed a break, so he would change his approach or route. Picked excellent spots to take a picture of each of us in the group and all of the pictures came out great! My absolute favorite part is all I learned about Chinese history, language and culture. He made it interesting and easy to understand and remember. I found myself seeing what I learned in his tour in other parts of China beyond his tour. Also, he was funny! 谢谢 凯文! 再见!Written September 9, 2024

- charlescQ4950WF0 contributionsFantastic and entertaining tour of the Forbidden CityReally great experience! I've lived in Beijing for 15 years, but brought some American friends that were visiting Asia for the first time on this tour and we all learned a lot. Mike is a great tour guide - he was extremely organized and had lots of fantastic historical facts and stories to share. Although the tour is quite long (~4 hours), it went by very quickly as he kept us entertained all the way throughout. Strongly recommend going on a tour with him and will be suggesting this as an activity to others in the future.Written September 8, 2024
- WarrenUAE0 contributionsForbidden City and Tiananmen Square ExperienceThe tour was excellent. Our tour guide, Anson, was excellent from the start, and explained the history and meaning of what we were seeing really well. Tiananmen Square was an iconic place to see with the museum on one side and the Great Hall on the other. But The Forbidden City was a really special place to visit. Probably once in a lifetime, and I'm very glad I managed to see it. Thank you Anson.Written September 8, 2024

Lucy was an excellent guide she took me to excellent restaurants and explained the history of the city as well as the dishes. We went for a really pleasant walk through the Hutong and she explained the history, as well as the changes that had been made more recently. The food choices were great and they gave you a taste of the different regions in China and why these differences exist. Overall, I highly recommend this tour it was a great look into Beijing’s food culture and I will absolutely go again if I come back.

We had originally booked a tour with Miko to do a 4-hour walking tour of Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. After such a wonderful experience we decided to reach out and see if he’d take us on the Hutongs tour too. To our delight, he was available which concluded our time in Beijing so well. Miko was both knowledgeable and entertaining in his approach to this tour which helped guide us in trying new food. We tried a variety of new items while also enjoying Miko’s company. A tour with Miko means you learn a lot about the context of Beijing; certainly more than any structured tour. His personality adds to the experience and helps ease any anxieties you might have about travelling in a foreign country. Thanks Miko!

We had a great experience with the Beijing Hutong food walking tour. Walking through the Hutongs was interesting, giving us a taste of how ancient China used to be.
Our guide Lucy was very personable. She asked our food preferences and dietary restrictions.
She gave us insight into China history and the cultural background of the food we were eating. The tour brought us to places and allowed us to experience flavors of Beijing we would never find on our own. She also went out of her way to give us recommendations and directions for things we wanted to eat after the tour. She also offered for us to ask her any questions we had during our stay in Beijing.
We would definitely recommend the Beijing private Hutong food walking tour and Lucy to anyone looking to visit the Hutongs and experience Beijing’s wonderful food culture.

Called in at several small restaurants and even went into a supermarket to discuss foods. Lucy was an excellent guide and explained lots in things about the dishes , the area of Beijing and the eating habits and changes over time . Highly recommend the tour - just skip lunch so you can enjoy the evening as there is lots to eat 😊

Anson was a perfect host for this local food tour the 3 of us booked for our first night in Beijing. He guided us to some great local food outlets in Dongsi, close to our hotel on Wangfujing street: Bejing lamb burger, Kebap (Eggplant Kebap was amazing), Szechuan soup and finished off with some new year's 'Donkey rolling on the ground' dessert.
Anson had a lot of great stories about the food and the neighborhood.
The tour was focused on good food in local down to earth restaurants and allowed each of us to eat to his/her level of adventure.
I also recommend to do the tour on the first night, as Anson gave us good tips where to head for the following nights.

Great experience and would recommend to anyone who is a foodie, or wants to try unique local cuisine. I really enjoyed getting to try many different types of food and flavors. My guide was great and asked me about my food preferences and if I had any dietary restrictions. We went to restaurants and tried food that I liked would not have tried if I didn't do this tour. This really is a great way to try lots of different types of tasty food. The Hutong tour was also really nice and a good way to learn more about the area and historical culture.

I was a bit nervous since I was traveling alone, but Jimmy showed up 30 minutes early to pick me up at the hotel (note you can only be picked up at hotels within a certain distance from the tour area). He was super friendly and so easy to talk to. We ate a ton of delicious food and when I was too full we would walk a bit to make space for more :) At one point I asked if we would be eating food with red bean paste and he went out of his way to find a couple treats for me that weren’t part of the tour. I HIGHLY recommend this tour, with Jimmy.

The tour was a great way to experience the local food of Beijing. Lucy, my guide, was great, she gave me lots of insights into the food and culture of China and specifically of Beijing. The foods that I tried were delicious and a great variety of soups, meats and sweets. I felt like a king with course after course of tasty foods. We also did a little walking tour to see the historical old town. I’d recommend this tour for anyone that wants to experience a more local taste of Beijing.

Anson took me on a private walking/food tour through the hutongs in Beijing. He knows a lot about the history and knows the best places to eat the local Chinese food. It was very delicious and more than enough! He even bought some pastries for me to take home for my wife and brought me to the big lighted dragon at the lake for Chinese new year, which was actually not included in the tour. Thanks Anson, see you next time when I will be in Beijijng, I’ll definitely book the tours with you!

Originally had another tour booked but was told if I was the only traveler at the start time then they would not proceed. I booked this tour after canceling said previous tour thinking there were more people on this one and not being told otherwise. To my surprise I was the only one and the tour still went along! My tour guide Lucy was amazing!! She was so informative and kind. We had such good food and Lucy was so considerate of my likes and dislikes but overall an amazing tour!!

Hi - what time does the tour start? Trying to figure out if I can get into a tour on Friday Sept 20.
Written September 19, 2019
Hi, when I took this tour, it was a private tour so I could nominate the time it began. I think if you get in touch with the tour operator directly they will sort it out. Ask for Lucy - she was a great guide.

Do you have food tours in Shanghai also?
Written December 9, 2018
We booked our food walking tour through Expedia. We did the Bizarre food 4 hr. walking tour. It was a good tour, however we walked about 1.5 miles from our hotel at night and once we were done our guide left us to return on our own while he went home. We could have taken a cab but with the language barrier, it's easy to be scammed by cabbies. So we walked and in Oct/Nov it's cold. Beware that when you book tours you're hotel must be within the 2nd ring road to be picked up by the tour otherwise you'll need to walk or cab to a location within the 2nd ring rd. READ THE FINE PRINT of your tour. All in all we did have a good time and experienced a culture well worth all the little problems.

Can you clarify about the price? One place it says from $34 but when I wen to find out about scheduling, there was only a $148 option. What does that include?
Written September 12, 2018
The pricing on all the tours in China is very confusing. The quoted price essentially assumes that a full tour group is going. Thus the "from...$(quoted cost)" - Invariably, when you actually try to book, the price is suddenly much more.
It does include all the food. You just pay what you paid for the tour. But, yeah - you kind of need to pretend to book the tour to find out how much it will really be.
Written March 21, 2019
How long is the tour?
we are planning to do it with our 2 kids (8 and 4 years old) and we're afraid it might be too intensive for them.
and the last question is regarding the food: can the tour can be without pork and sea food (just cheicken, beef and vegetarian stuff)?
Written September 1, 2018
Oops! I think I answered your question regarding the cooking lesson. The hutong walking tour to different restaurants is not appropriate for the kids, and not for the faint of heart re: unusual foods. We paid for our own taxi to the starting point. So if your question is about the walking tour of different restaurants, I think different tour might be better with such young kids.
Written September 11, 2018
Hi, does the price include hotel pick-up? Because it says in the tour selection, Tour starts at 17:30. YOUR GUIDE WILL PICK YOU UP FROM YOUR HOTEL'S LOBBY. How long is the tour? Does it include alcoholic beverages?
Written August 23, 2018
Beware! Most, if not all tours claim they will only pick you up from your hotel ONLY if your hotel is within the 2nd ring rd. If not, you will have to cab or walk to a location within the 2nd ring rd. Read the fine print of your tour! We re-booked our hotel to within the 2nd ring rd to avoid the hassle with our tours.
