About
The hutongs means the ancient alleys or lanes typical in Beijing. As the city develops, its traditional hutongs are disappearing quickly. Hutongs wind through local residences, exposing years of tradition and history. Some are older than 700 years. A bike is the best choice to explore these timeless mazes surrounding the Forbidden city.

Great way to oeientate yourself and plan where to explore in more detail
Jul 2018
Although pricey, it was great to cycle about and get a sense of the city the day we arrived. We always do a cycle tour somewhere new as it's a great way to get a feel for the city, allay any fears about where to go and how easy it is a o get about and then plsn to revisit on your own at a kater time. Thos was no different.
The tour starts in a nice cafe where they offere you decent tea or coffee, the chance to find out about the route and meet your guide. The bikes are good and the guide shares interesting info about what is happening in the city and what is worth seeing.
We did the evening tour and this was well worth it - although incredibly it was the same price as a full day's bike tour around Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Williamsburgh in New York!!

Pretty average bike tour
Sep 2018 • Couples
Reading some of the five-star review makes me realize the tour guide you have really impacts your impression of the tour. Ours was pretty indifferent, on his phone a lot, and wasn't especially enthusiastic. The result was that our tour was pretty average.

I’ve been seven bike tours throughout Asia and this one was not the best. It was about average. The email said 9 a.m. start but the guide showed up at 9:30 because he was told it started at 10 (that’s a bit below average). The bikes were old (about average). Overall the tour focused a lot on the history of the sites we saw. There was less focus on social or cultural aspects of current China. This is not necessarily bad – just an observation of the focus of the tour.

Biking in Beijing is quite an interesting experience and I recommend you try it. Our guide was pretty indifferent to our biking skills and rode in and out of traffic with only a passing glance to see if we were keeping up.

A great way to find your bearings
Sep 2018 • Solo
This is a great way to get a sense of the geography of the city centre. You need to be ready for the rather chaotic traffic behaviour - especially the right turning vehicles coming through the pedestrians and cyclists who are crossing. The real challenge though is that there is so much to see while still needing to keep an eye on the road, and the leader up front. Our guide Harry achieved just the right balance of stopping and chatting and just keeping going.

Hutong Cycle Tour
Aug 2018 • Couples
A nice easy ride around the hutongs of Beijing with Peter. It was informative and gave a good overview of the area. Listed as a 3 hour tour but only went for 2.5 hrs which was the perfect length.

We did have some slight issues though;
-Firstly we googled the address while we were out. The website is old and lists the old address and phone number. They had sent us the correct details so entirely our fault. Just make sure you go to the new address. The one listed on trip advisor is correct.
-Secondly when we did find the right address to hire bikes the day before the tour the shop was shut. It took a lot of phone calls and waiting to have it opened.
Once it was though the service was good, bike hire was cheap and the tour the next day was fun.

Highly Reccomend
I think there is no better way to explore a city than by bike and this tour was no exception. There is no way I would have found some of the interesting hutongs we cycled through on my own! While I am a regular cyclist, you don’t need to be to enjoy this tour. Very easy pace and the bikes (single speed) are more than adequate. Guide Louis was easy going and the tour had the right balance of riding and stops for information/history. This tour doesn’t go into any of the sights that you go past )eg. Forbidden city, bell tower etc.), but gives you a good lay of the land so you can go back to the spots you want to see in more detail. Loved the experience!

Interesting and fun way to see Beijing
Jul 2018 • Solo
I did the three hour Hutong Bike tour, which also took us past the Forbidden City and Bell and Drum Towers. The tour guide was a delight, very friendly and passionate about Beijing, and was very informative. It was an exciting and different way to see Beijing - highly recommended!

A must do in Beijing!
We have done bicycle tours in many Asian cities and this one ranks among of the best! We showed up for the 10 AM tour without a reservation, but no one had signed up. The manager contacted a tour guide and within an hour we were cycling. We enjoyed the variety of the sites we saw (canals, hutongs, and lakes to cultural/historical sites) and appreciated the local knowledge that the guide shared with us. The equipment was the best we’ve ever had on a city tour – – newer and in perfect condition Giant bikes. Almost the entire route was shaded so cycling was very comfortable. Traffic was a non-issue and the route was flat so would be easy for beginners and even for families. The company also runs a coffee shop which is a nice place to hang out before or after a bicycle ride — good coffee and free Wi-Fi. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Best Way to Know Beijing
May 2018 • Solo
This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Beijing. I feel like I came away with a much better feel for the city after this bike tour compared to anything else I did while in the city. Our guide, Affie (sp?) was very knowledgeable and friendly. She rode at a good pace and took us to a lot of parts of the city that I wouldn't have known to go to on my own.

Overall it was a really wonderful experience and left me feeling very positive afterwards. If I visit Beijing again I would definitely check out one of their longer day tours or just rent a bike from them and start exploring on my own. This tour showed me how great a bicycle is for getting around Beijing.

Thanks to Bike Beijing and my tour mates for making this a wonderful experience!

Good way to explore traditional Chinese Hutong culture
May 2018 • Solo
There is loads to see in Beijing, so this is a good way to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time. You shoot past the forbidden city and Tiannamen, they need to be explored another time, but you spend some good time exploring Hutongs.

Elena was a fantastic guide, very kind and considerate and very clever.

A must do for Bejing
Apr 2018 • Friends
It's really the only way to get around and see the main sights. We learned by being on a bike you can avoid lines and security checks in Tian'men Sq. Your on the road so you are seeing it all in a calm tranquil way. There where 7 of us and we all enjoyed it. The shop was clean and hip with a full cafe bar for cappuccinos or local tea. I have the honey grapefruit and it had fresh grapefruit in it and morning tea - it was remarkable. Thomas was our guide, very nice guy. His english was good..enough, his voice a little soft. George runs the place and he was flexible and so friendly and helpful. We ate across the street at a local and international cafe' if was groovy and old at the same time (like your favorite local spot on a hip block back home) and great food! We recommend tipping the Guides. The books are kinda lame on this - but the disparity is large in Bejing and tipping a Guide we feel is a must. They were kindly appreciative. I just hope we left enough :-). The bikes were in good shape and after the fact you might strongly consider helmets - the traffic is nuts and there are few crossing the street guidelines..... highly recommend. - Denver USA
