While the thought of visiting Kibera slums might sound overwhelming, the experience of spending a few hours in this vibrant, multifaceted community is educational and informative. With its maze-like network of unmarked streets and narrow alleys, Kibera is best visited in the morning or mid-morning led by Lucas who has a razor-sharp knowledge on the inspiring creativity, resilience, and ingenuity employed by Kibera residents to survive under challenging circumstances in what we call the “city of hope.”

The best part of the tour was visiting the school with my daughter and a friend passing out toys and school supplies to the children. 😊
Meeting ithe women's empowerment group and an initiative for recycling products while employing men using those products to make jewelry was also a highlight.
Our guides Elijah and Effie are two remarkable young people making a difference in the lives of those in their community, especially the children.
I applaud them both for their caring and for their professionalism. They both made us feel welcomed and safe.
Elijah even made certain that we made it safely back to the city and we were most appreciative.
We will remember this experience for years to come in a good way.
Please add this to your bucket list of things to do when in Nairobi you will not regret it!

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Freddy is an excellent tour guide and the Kibera people are very friendly. Kibera is truly a City of Hope. I loved the excellent crafts by the Victorious Craft Group and the beautiful designs by the Power Women.

I was inspired by the Community BioCenter and the resilience of the Kibera people. I was also inspired by the Hope and Shine Kibera school and I enjoyed the songs and dances the children performed.

If you've been to Kenya and you've not been to Kibera, you've not truly visited Kenya. It's a necessary experience to have to really know and meet the resilient and friendly people of Kenya.

It was AMAZING! This is one of the best things we’ve ever done on any holiday… and we are well travelled! Lucas and Elijah are wonderful guides. We visited a kindergarten first which they have developed together. The children were gorgeous and they sang for us. So well behaved. We then toured Kibera- being introduced to local initiatives in the community to Make it a better place. The Kenyan people are all wonderful and we were made to feel extremely welcomed wherever we went.

Please think about doing this tour. You will be helping develop this community as well as meet some of the nicest and friendliest people in the world. We took books and other supplies to the school which they were appreciative of. Ask Lucas what they need when he communicates with you about the tour. He was exceptional at communicating with me and even arranged for a taxi to pick us up and drop us off. Everything was perfect- except Elijah’s Mum who was upset that she hadn’t known we were visiting her house and she hadn’t cooked for us! Haha. She is a wonderful women.

We have 15year old twins and they LOVED this tour too. How can anyone not. Seeing a culture SO different to our own. Please book this tour! Far outweighs seeing the elephants and giraffes!

As we said in the hotel that we would like to visit Kibera, they arranged us to meet Lucas and Elijah who would take us around Kibera. Talking to them was wery inspiring and mindopening, they have a lot of knowledge. Hats off to these guys as they are also building a school and helping local community in many other ways.
I would recommend to everyone to visit Kibera and help as much as they can. We felt really safe and also accepted while we were there.

Effie was a wonderful guide. The huge markets were exhilarating. It was a humbling experience seeing people who have nothing still trying hard to make something for themselves.
There needs to be clearer instructions on how to find the starting point and guide. There is no “security desk”.
