About the operator

- 579emmyt0 contributionsSamar is a great guide.Samar was a fabulous tour guide. In Madinet Habu a couple randomly stopped us after overhearing her talk to us to ask for her contact info because they wanted her for a guide too! She did three days with us: east and west bank of Luxor and Dendera and even took us to fruit stands, falafel stands, and a restaurant when we asked. We would not have learned or seen nearly as much without her expertise and she answered our many questions. I would recommend her for anyone.Written December 28, 2024
- Ilona69520 contributionsExcellentSamar was excellent. She has energy, a lot of knowledge of all the excursions we did with her and very enthusiastic. No question was to much and she took always the time for us. She had also a great humor and we liked her very much. Thank you Samar for the great 2 days we spent with you. - red_jye0 contributionsWARNING!!!!Although the Old Cairo Museum is amazing and a must see, be careful if you purchase anything in their gift shop. I was tired, and bought a paperback book and cheap necklace and the charge on my card was $369. My fault for not noticing but be aware!!!Written May 3, 2024
- Cornwallgurl0 contributionsCaught between two stoolsI have wanted to see the Tutankhamen treasures since I was 13 and have managed to miss the two London exhibitions owing to force majeure! I was well aware of the ongoing delays in the opening of the Grand New Egyptian Museum, to which many artefacts have already been moved. I had hoped that the latest opening prediction (Jan 24) would enable me to visit the new one during my recent trip, but no. It now looks like much later this year, but so many predicted openings have come and gone, that I wouldn't hold your breath. Naturally, all the money (as well as many exhibits) has been directed at the new site. Which leaves a splendid old building in a bit of a dire state, with dust everywhere, a shocking lack of labels for many of the remaining exhibits, no printed floor plans, no directed lighting and a very old-fashioned feel. Obviously, packing crates, piles of boxes and so on are to be expected, but the general lack of labelling and directions was disappointing. There are still numerous astonishing items, but their jumbled presentation does not do them justice. Cleverly, just enough of the blingiest bits of the Tutankhamen treasure have been retained here to justify the admission price (not that steep, but rather more than the state of the rest of the museum justifies). The chariots, beds, personal items and one of the tomb guardians have gone, but the modern, well lit and labelled section for the amazing gold (with photography banned, presumably to encourage you to buy a book) is effective. It also shows up the rest of the museum. You were allowed to photograph the tomb guardian, Anubis, canopic casket, throne and the few other remaining large items, but their old glass cases meant heavy reflection and poor images. So visitors to Cairo are currently rather between a rock and a hard place. But nothing can deflect from the breathtaking splendour of the gold sarcophagus, death mask and jewellery.Written January 31, 2024

- ThaferG0 contributionsDisappointment of the Egyptian MuseumThe museum houses exquisite artifacts from ancient Egypt, but it was poorly presented, in a state of disrepair, and disrupted by loud tour guides. This collection showcases some of humanity's most stunning discoveries, yet I left thoroughly disheartened by the broken cabinets, dustcovered pieces, and the absence of informational labels.Written October 11, 2023
- Dewit1970 contributionsWonderfulWhat a wonderful 2 days in Luxor with this amazing guide. Samur was very knowledgeable and also very patient with all our questions. Excellent English made a huge difference. I highly recommend Samur for an all round good experience.Written September 30, 2023
- agb120 contributionsThe real dealThis museum is worth going to. You could spend a few days here and still not see it all. Be careful paying for a ticket - we asked for two, paid on card and had been charged for three. Lots of "tour guides" around the ticket booth eager to help. No air conditioning in the building..You exit via the gift shop into an outdoor area with cafes. It's a one way deal. Security scanners into and out of building. Tonnes of tourists there.Written September 22, 2023

- Marf136690 contributionsThis museum cannot be compared to any other in the worldThe collection in the Cairo Egyptian Museum is so voluminous in quantity and of quality in depth. - shelleyk5310 contributionsWonderful Oxen of EgyptSPLENDOR IN EGYPT Review of Oxen of Egypt Samar was our guide for the temples of Luxor, Karnak, and Habu as well as the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Nobles and a variety of sites between Luxor and Abu Simbel, including the Aswan. Samar’s open and joyous personality (and humor) alone made the tour thoroughly enjoyable, and her knowledge and presentation elevated the excursion to a higher level. She conveyed information in impeccable English. Her mastery of Egyptian history is expansive, enthusiastic, and not only includes description and interpretation but a deep appreciation of the art. She was tour guide and art docent but quickly also became a friend. Samar was sensitive to the group’s needs, providing an immersive experience of Egyptian life while still affording us “free” time to do things on our own or relax. She negotiated with vendors to ensure that we bought souvenirs at a fair price. She brough her joie de vive to the occasion and ensued that we fell in love with Egyptian culture and cuisine. Frankly, Samar became our favorite tour guide across our many years of travel. Visitors who engage her services will be lucky indeed.Written March 15, 2023
- D5048KZrickb0 contributionsSplendor in EgyptA REVIEW OF OXEN OF EGYPT TOURS Through our many travels, my wife and I have learned that no matter how grand the destination, a superb tour guide will bring a destination to life and make a trip that much more memorable. Such a guide is Samar. Her warm, open personality (and humor) alone makes the tour thoroughly enjoyable. But it is her knowledge and presentation that elevate the excursion to a higher level. Her English is impeccable and full of nuance that makes the tour more intimate and less rote. Her mastery of Egyptian history is expansive, enthusiastic, and not only includes description and interpretation but a deep appreciation of the art. She was tour guide and art docent but quickly also became a friend to us both. Samar lives life enthusiastically and her joy is infectious. Samar guided us through the Luxor, Karnak, and Habu temples as well as the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Nobles. She joined us as we cruised the Nile on a luxurious Dahabiya and visited the temples at Abydos, Dendera (not to be missed on any visit to Upper Egypt), and Kom Ombos. We stayed in a Nubian village at Abu Simbel, perhaps the most majestic of the ancient structures. Samar was thorough yet afforded us “free” time to do things on our own or relax. She negotiated with vendors to ensure that we bought souvenirs at a fair price. She enjoyed the delectable foods of Egypt with us at every meal, bringing her joie de vive to the occasion and ensuring that we fell in love with Egyptian cuisine. And she willingly discussed modern Egyptian life with the interested tourist. We highly recommend Samar as your tour guide in Egypt. And lucky will be the visitor who follows our recommendation.Written March 4, 2023

Very do able in 2 hours or so. You do not get the "overwhelming" museum claustrophobia like many older museums. Surprising , not a lot of walking involved. Nice gift shop, however, only pay station was open and taking several currencies. Inspecting bills to make sure they were "new". This caused paying to be a extremely slow process, folks on large tours gave up in frustration. Very nice overview of 4,000 years plus. This is NOT the Egyptian Museum in downtown and soon to be located near pyramids.

I was in Egypt 9 years ago and this museum was not here. What a great place. So much to see, including the mummy exhibit on the bottom floor. It was a shame my guide could not come with me to this part of the museum, I am sure she could have shed so much light on what I was seeing vs. just reading about them. There were various places to see everything from those mummies to clothing worn by various ages to excellent tools under glass. The museum was very crowded when I went but it had a big airy feeling to it vs. the claustrophobic feeling you get from so many other museums so I did not feel rushed or overwhelmed by other tourists. There was only a few times when there was a group in front of something and I could not get close enough to see it. Give yourself 2 hours at least to see everything. The area outside the museum is very pretty and you would never know you were in a major city like Cairo.

Very impressive museum which was inaugurated in 2021 and where the mummies are kept. The museum refers to all Egyptian history but of course focuses on the ancient Egypt. You can see a lot of artefacts but the most impressive exhibits are the mummies who are kept on the basement of the museum. There is a gift shop as well. I believe that this museum is in top 5 must visit places in Cairo. Highly recommended.

Very elegant well maintained place with needed services and very cooperative stuff.
The museum is an experience you must have in Egypt, you’ll see something that’s not in any place elsewhere. The mummies partition is really majestic. The space design is matching the monuments inside in a complete harmony to help you enjoy each step of your trip.
The space is not too huge to make you feel tired yet not too small to be meaningless, just perfect.
I’m really project of this place in Egypt.
The only downside that it needs more cafes or restaurants specially around the lake.

Fantastic exciting museum with a lot of artifacts from different times in Egypt.
The most exciting thing was of course a visit to the basement to see the old royal mummies. If you find Egyptian mythology interesting, this is a “must-see”. There were many of the old mummies - several x Ramses etc. very, very fascinating to see the old kings and queens lying there as mummies.
A clear Recommendation: Book your trip with a local guide. We had Tarek, who works at a university in Cairo and is involved in the excavations in Luxor. He knew everything - and that gave the experience an extra kick up

The interior was great with all the artifacts in modern rooms, so everything was organized. There was a special walk through a dark room with lit up artifacts which was pretty cool, and would definitely recommend it!

Beautiful and modern museum. The Royal Mummies exhibit is well done. No pictures allowed of the mummies. The rest of the museum has a few nice pieces. Not very large but well worth seeing.

It has a beautifull collection of the old days but also of the newer days.
And a unique collection of Royal Mummies, you must see.
