Samar was a fabulous tour guide. In Madinet Habu a couple randomly stopped us after overhearing her talk to us to ask for her contact info because they wanted her for a guide too! She did three days with us: east and west bank of Luxor and Dendera and even took us to fruit stands, falafel stands, and a restaurant when we asked. We would not have learned or seen nearly as much without her expertise and she answered our many questions. I would recommend her for anyone.

Samar was excellent. She has energy, a lot of knowledge of all the excursions we did with her and very enthusiastic. No question was to much and she took always the time for us. Although the Old Cairo Museum is amazing and a must see, be careful if you purchase anything in their gift shop. I was tired, and bought a paperback book and cheap necklace and the charge on my card was $369. My fault for not noticing but be aware!!!

I have wanted to see the Tutankhamen treasures since I was 13 and have managed to miss the two London exhibitions owing to force majeure! I was well aware of the ongoing delays in the opening of the Grand New Egyptian Museum, to which many artefacts have already been moved. I had hoped that the latest opening prediction (Jan 24) would enable me to visit the new one during my recent trip, but no. It now looks like much later this year, but so many predicted openings have come and gone, that I wouldn't hold your breath. Naturally, all the money (as well as many exhibits) has been directed at the new site. Which leaves a splendid old building in a bit of a dire state, with dust everywhere, a shocking lack of labels for many of the remaining exhibits, no printed floor plans, no directed lighting and a very old-fashioned feel. Obviously, packing crates, piles of boxes and so on are to be expected, but the general lack of labelling and directions was disappointing. There are still numerous astonishing items, but their jumbled presentation does not do them justice. Cleverly, just enough of the blingiest bits of the Tutankhamen treasure have been retained here to justify the admission price (not that steep, but rather more than the state of the rest of the museum justifies). The chariots, beds, personal items and one of the tomb guardians have gone, but the modern, well lit and labelled section for the amazing gold (with photography banned, presumably to encourage you to buy a book) is effective. It also shows up the rest of the museum. You were allowed to photograph the tomb guardian, Anubis, canopic casket, throne and the few other remaining large items, but their old glass cases meant heavy reflection and poor images. So visitors to Cairo are currently rather between a rock and a hard place. But nothing can deflect from the breathtaking splendour of the gold sarcophagus, death mask and jewellery.

Excellent tour guide that is friendly and knowledgeable, better than others we had in Egypt Samar showed us around Luxor (Kings Valley, Queens Valley, Karnak Temple) and has been giving us very helpful information on the history, religion, culture of Egypt, better than all other guides we had in Egypt

The museum houses exquisite artifacts from ancient Egypt, but it was poorly presented, in a state of disrepair, and disrupted by loud tour guides. This collection showcases some of humanity's most stunning discoveries, yet I left thoroughly disheartened by the broken cabinets, dustcovered pieces, and the absence of informational labels.

What a wonderful 2 days in Luxor with this amazing guide. Samur was very knowledgeable and also very patient with all our questions. Excellent English made a huge difference. I highly recommend Samur for an all round good experience.

This museum is worth going to. You could spend a few days here and still not see it all. Be careful paying for a ticket - we asked for two, paid on card and had been charged for three. Lots of "tour guides" around the ticket booth eager to help. No air conditioning in the building..You exit via the gift shop into an outdoor area with cafes. It's a one way deal. Security scanners into and out of building. Tonnes of tourists there.

Wonderful guide Samar with an impecable English, all the needed information and a sweet maner. Really enjoyed our time with her.

The collection in the Cairo Egyptian Museum is so voluminous in quantity and of quality in depth. The pictures here are only a small capture of what exists. There was so much to see and absorb, that it's almost beyond comprehension.

5 days of square dancing, 25 through 29 May. I am so pleasantly exhausted that I will be dancing again this weekend!

SPLENDOR IN EGYPT Review of Oxen of Egypt Samar was our guide for the temples of Luxor, Karnak, and Habu as well as the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Nobles and a variety of sites between Luxor and Abu Simbel, including the Aswan. Samar’s open and joyous personality (and humor) alone made the tour thoroughly enjoyable, and her knowledge and presentation elevated the excursion to a higher level. She conveyed information in impeccable English. Her mastery of Egyptian history is expansive, enthusiastic, and not only includes description and interpretation but a deep appreciation of the art. She was tour guide and art docent but quickly also became a friend. Samar was sensitive to the group’s needs, providing an immersive experience of Egyptian life while still affording us “free” time to do things on our own or relax. She negotiated with vendors to ensure that we bought souvenirs at a fair price. She brough her joie de vive to the occasion and ensued that we fell in love with Egyptian culture and cuisine. Frankly, Samar became our favorite tour guide across our many years of travel. Visitors who engage her services will be lucky indeed.

Samar guided us through the Luxor, Karnak, and Habu temples as well as the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Nobles. She joined us as we cruised the Nile on a luxurious Dahabiya and visited the temples at Abydos, Dendera (not to be missed on any visit to Upper Egypt), and Kom Ombos. We stayed in a Nubian village at Abu Simbel, perhaps the most majestic of the ancient structures. Samar was thorough yet afforded us “free” time to do things on our own or relax. She negotiated with vendors to ensure that we bought souvenirs at a fair price. She enjoyed the delectable foods of Egypt with us at every meal, bringing her joie de vive to the occasion and ensuring that we fell in love with Egyptian cuisine. And she willingly discussed modern Egyptian life with the interested tourist. We highly recommend Samar as your tour guide in Egypt. And lucky will be the visitor who follows our recommendation.
