7 nights cruise on Nile river on grand rose
Grand Rose public rooms full of character and ornate decor. Staff very friendly and helpful. The Grand Rose needs a serious refurbishment and a higher standard of cleanliness.. Don't expect a view whilst docked as you will be sandwiched between 2/3 other boats!

Simply at ride to the pyramids
Let’s be very very clear. This is a round ride to the pyramids and nothing more. We arrived at the Giza pyramids after a short drive from Cairo. The driver was very nice and very friendly and he handled the insane traffic every very. Once we arrived we saw the camels and the excitement began to really build. We were then sat in a small room with a salesmen who advised us that the camel rentals were “under government control now” and not only was the entry to the pyramids NOT covered in this package but the 2 hour guided tour on a camel would be $300usd per person. To be clear, prior to this trip I had done extensive research on costs and the “tourist tax” but $300usd per person is beyond insane! Our stay at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza did not cost that much per night. It wasn’t until I was in full blown tears and advised them this was a trip for my birthday and they’d just ruined one of my childhood dreams by trying to milk every dollar in my pocket that he dropped the price to $100usd per person. I was ready to just go back to the hotel and call it a loss but my husband felt so bad bcs I was so emotional that he paid the $200usd for us to go. The tour was smooth. The guide was personable and knew lots of historical facts. The camels weren’t terrifying at all. The had no “smell” and didn’t spit at us. We were able to see all of the pyramids and Sphinx, even climbed up on a few steps of the smaller pyramid but opted out of going inside. The end... before we were able to return, the guide stopped us and asked us “did you enjoy your tour?” We said “yes, thank you.” He then said it was time to tip “from our hearts.” As a natural tipper I was ok with tipping, just not being cornered into it. We tipped the assistant who was with us. As soon as I unzipped my purse his eyeballs went to it. I literally had to turn around bcs he was THAT BOLD. I gave him a healthy tip bcs I mean he did guide us safely around 9 pyramids on a live camel. He looked at me like scum. “This is only like $6usd” ... correction 300egp is closer to $19usd. The guild got the same 300egp from me back in the office. He approached me when my husband went to the bathroom. We declined the “visit to local merchants to understand the history of how things were made in Egypt” bcs I wasn’t there to shop or be harassed into it. So, were transported back to hotel. My husband went back up to the room and gathered the $200usd for the excursion. Since we were separated when I tipped the guide, he didn’t know I gave the first tip. He ended up giving them another $20 each for tips. I would strongly encourage anyone booking this. Research further and get it in full description what’s included. I mean literally “camel ride, entrance to pyramids, ride to/from”. This was one of those things that were too good to be true. But hey, if you need a decent ride to and from the pyramids... this is it🤷🏽‍♀️
