Stop At: Mosque of Amr Ibn El-Aas, Cairo Egypt

Start the visit with Amr Ibn Al Ass Mosque, the first Islamic mosque built in Egypt after the Islamic conquest to Egypt. Amr Ibn AlAss had chosen this spot to be the new capital of Egypt instead of Alexandria and build this mosque to for worship and to be a center for Islamic preaching. Later, throughout the ages, the original Mosque was destroyed and rebuilt several times.

Stop At: Church of St Sergius and Bacchus, Old Cairo, Cairo 11511 Egypt

Walk towards the Roman Babylon fortress to go through the old Christian basilica style churches. Years ago the Nile River was running close the fortress area. The spot were known during the Pharaoh’s times and it is believed that the fortress was built during Persian era however it was enlarged during the Roman possession of Egypt. Later, several churches where built on the ruins of the fortress and for years it was the residence of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarch.

During the tour you will visit the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga). It is believed that the Holy Family (the Child Jesus, St. Mary, and St. Joseph) visited this area and stayed in crypt at the site of this church

Stop At: Ben Ezra Synagogue, Coptic Cairo, Cairo 11511 Egypt

Step forward to visit Ben Ezra Synagogue the oldest existing Hebrew synagogue in Cairo. It was originally built as a Christian church but was sold later to a Jewish community in order to pay the annual taxes. Through the centuries, the Synagogue received extensive restorations and renovations.

Visit St. George Convent where you will see the chain that St. George the Martyr was tied with during his tortures. Christians visitors believe to gain blessings from touching the chain as it had touched the Martyr blessed body and blood.

Stop At: Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary), Shar'a Mari Girgis Street, Cairo 11511 Egypt

Walk outside the fortress to visit the hanging church of St. Mary (El Muallaqa). Will ascend some stairs as the church was built on the Roman Fortress. From the above church, you could see the ruins of the Fortress. The church houses a vast number of old icons.

Stop At: The Coptic Museum, No 4 Fakhry Abd el Nour street Abbassia, Cairo 11511 Egypt

End the tour inside the ruins of the Roman fortress where the Coptic Museum is located. The Museum displays around 1600 items go back to different centuries in the Coptic History. The visitor to the Museum could see funerary stelae that represents the transition between the religious Pharaonic and the Coptic art. It also occupies precious and rare pieces of icons, cloths, manuscripts, priestly garments, frescoes, wooden panels and also painted wooden ceilings and marble fountains all dates back to old Coptic times.
