        Convenient but challenging
Overnight train Cairo/Luxor/Aswan I make regular trips to Egypt and in order to save time always use the overnight train run by Watania . It is hard to find good points beyond convenience. The staff are very good, diligent and helpful. The food is not haute cuisine but (believe me)this is not the Orient Express. The hot meal in the evening is invariably chicken and rice but well prepared. The coffee is probably the worst one will ever experience. But that is not the staff's fault. The breakfast is ok but not to my taste - too much sweet bread and awful coffee. The bed linen is impeccably clean and fresh and that is where the cleanliness ends. Without exception, on all my trips, the cabin was grimy and poorly cleaned. Curtains were stained with food residue of uncertain age. The mirror had many fingerprints and smears. The tap and the wash hand basin needed a thorough clean. The mattress was far from comfortable. Hot water? Forget it. I would challenge one of the company's directors (or partner) to experience an anonymous overnight trip in one of these 1st class cabins. My description could be applied to every trip I have made on this train. Everytime I board, I know what to expect and the cabin lives down to my expectations. Why do I repeat travel - simply to save time (and grit my teeth). Don't ask about the quality sleep.

Sleeper Train from Cairo to Luxor
We booked the sleeper with Watania Sleeper Trains from Cairo to Luxor as I had read it was a real Egyptian experience, which it was but not in a good way. The train was a conventional slow train packed with locals, the train we were on stopped at many stations during the night. It had two sleeper carriages for tourists. These carriages are way past their use by date and dirty, the only clean element was the linen on the bunks. The curtains have probably not been cleaned since the sleeper carriage was built. I cannot say the carriages are comfortable on such old rolling stock and rails, bumping along up and down, side to side during the night and the constant use of the horn by the train driver who must be an ex demented taxi driver. The compartments are well worn, unmaintained and dirty. Toilets are shared and the usual unclean state, bring wet wipes and your own toilet paper. As the train passes so many crossings and urban areas this probably explains the incessant use of the horn. At $86 per person for a shared compartment it is also well over priced for what it is. I couldn't really recommend it unless you are an incredibly solid sleeper. Our train was over two hours late getting into Luxor after 10.00 and I was no more refreshed than when I had got on the previous evening. We returned to Cairo with Egyptair where you can get single flights for as low as $50. If you are an experienced backpacker used to sacrificing comfort for prices you will probably find this service acceptable but perhaps I'm getting a bit old to slum it like this. The only positive is the very attentive cabin attendant who did his best in the circumstances.

Overnight Sleeper Train from Cairo to Luxor
We decided that it would be easier to take the sleeper trains from Cairo to Luxor as we thought this would offer us a good opportunity to see the country side, take an overnight train and it was the most cost effective. Here are couple of things we found helpful. To book the train you can book it online or at the train station. When booking online log onto Watania Sleeper trains, run by Ernst. When trying to book online you want to purchase a double cabin with two sleeper twin size beds. When booking online the cost is 80 USD per person and it has to be booked in advance. The other option is go down to Ramses train station and purchase tickets at the Watania office which is located at the train station. We purchased our tickets the day before and there was lots of availability. On the day of travel when entering Ramses train station you want to go to the left of the building on to the platform. The train you will be taking is a green and white train with sleeper written on the side. The signage and announcements are in Arabic so you need to double check and translate. There are plenty of tourists that also take the sleeper trains when in doubt you can join in with them. Cons: The cabins are small and could use a thorough cleaning, the upholstery is outdated and dirty. The toilets are down the hall and are filthy so please bring extra toilet paper and disinfecting wipes. The room can be drafty depending on the time of year you go. We took the trains in February so it was a bit cold inside the cabin but you can adjust the heat although it did take a while to come on. Smoking is permitted in Egypt therefore the smell of smoke can be found everywhere. Lastly there is no wifi on the train and if your not used to riding on a train or if you suffer from motion sickness you may want to pack gravol. Pros: The train was fast and got us there on time. They served dinner and breakfast on the train and it was delicious, you also have the option of purchasing extra coffee, tea or juice for a small fee. The customer service on the train was excellent as well. Inside the cabin is a mirror and small wash-bin so you can brush your teeth and wash your face and fresh towels are provided. There is also a space in the cabin for you to store your luggage, in addition there are two extra locks on the door for safety; regular lock on top and chain lock on the bottom of the door. Overall it was an okay experience, it did the job, as long as you bring extra blankets, bottle water, sanitizers, etc. would I do it again probably not but the experience was unforgettable.

A value for money day tour
Everything was perfect. We really enjoyed the tour! Our tour guide, Saied Madbouly, was very helpful and polite! He took us wherever we asked, and patiently waited for us every time. Always better to give your money to those friendly people, than giving it to anybody else who tries to steal. Would do it again 100%!

Sayed Hamdy, my tour guide, and Mohammed, my driver, were both fantastic. Sayed was extremely knowledgeable about every site we went to, and you could tell he was passionate about history. He was also an excellent photographer that took numerous photos of my husband and me at each site. Mohammed was an excellent driver and safely got us to each place. Both Sayed and Mohammed were excellent conversationalists, which made for great discussions throughout the entire day. They also took us to a few local places to shop before lunch, where we could learn more about products particular to Egypt. I would absolutely recommend this tour as it was a wonderful experience and I will be booking another trip with them in the future. Since I recently moved to Cairo, they were even happy to give advice on restaurants near my home and the best foods to try. They made us feel extremely welcome, and we will absolutely be using their services again!

I did the private tour to Giza, Memphis, Sakkara and Dahshur. Both my guide Aly and the driver Sayd were absolutely amazing.
As a solo traveller, a private full day tour can become quite tedious if the guide isn’t very good, but Aly made the day into an absolutely incredible experience. He was very knowledgeable and gave a lot of information about everything we saw. He also made sure I had fun the whole day and was enjoying every moment. He made sure to take pictures from me with my own camera at every stop, and adapted the stops to what I wanted to do. He made sure I always had water, fruit and snacks available. On top of that, he was very nice, and we talked a lot throughout the whole day!

I have to say that Tonsi and Hamdi did an amazing job today with me. They were on time and the best part was that I was the only guest so it ended being a private tour. Tonsi really knows about the history of Egypt and I appreciate that he truly seems to enjoy his work something that most people do not seem to enjoy but he truly does. I was able to see how Egyptians live on a daily basis and lunch was included and food was great. I appreciate that Tonsi remained near my side at all times as there are many people trying to sell you things and hassle you. He was able to send them off and that made my experience even better because I focused on Egypt and not on people bothering me all the time. Hamdi is an amazing driver that knows well the city and finds shortcuts to get to the location quicker. Both guys made an awesome team and they are highly recommended by me 10/10. You will not regret doing your next tour with them so book them and they will take care of you as they took care of me.

Rami was a knowledgeable person and a well-informed guide about Egyptian history and the former kingdoms.
Also, his German was very good. Unfortunately, he wasn't really enthusiastic about the topic and it seemed more that he wasn't enjoying giving the tour.
The driver was nice and friendly and when you take the Cairo traffic into consideration really on the defense side.

We enjoyed our tour except that we would loved to have a guide who is more enthusiastic about the topic.
Additionally, we were also confused that we were taken into an Essential oil and papyrus shop. No idea if it belongs to the tour but you don't have to buy anything and can just say friendliy no.

This trip met my expectations of viewing the Pyramid of Giza and the other ancient sites at a pace where I didn’t feel rushed, and where I had the opportunity to ask the tour guide specific questions. Mohammed Hamid (guide) was able to explain to me key pieces of information about each attraction that made each stop intriguing. Navigating around Giza on my own would have been next to impossible because the roads and means of transportation are not as convenient or easily understood as those in Europe. You need an experienced guide who is also a local and understands the ins and outs of this great attraction, and can help you steer clear of vendors who seem to always want to sell tourists stuff at each site.

We had such a great experience learning about Egypt’s history at these locations from Emo tour guide, Tonsi! He kept our pace with abundant information! I even took notes!
He also gave suggestions as to where to get what. He was also our personal photographer! Crazy driving in Cairo/Giza, but we felt so safe with Yosef, our driver! Truly an experience!
Tonsi and Yosef took us to Restaurant Pharous (?) for lunch and had such a great welcoming music and dance prior to a wonderful meal. We enjoyed the day so much we requested them for our tour the next day. Thanks Emo for sending them our way!

OMG! This was the best experience my sister and I could have ever imagined. All I can say is go visit Egypt > Cairo and ask for “Mazen Maher Sammy” and be open-minded for a wonderful experience!!! Our driver “Bassam Elkhodary” was also awesome and gave us water and had little snacks for us along the way. Now back to Mazen! He is the most friendly & kind tour guide I’ve ever met and quite popular I’d say (because the locals know him which is a plus). We had no worries about security because he was very knowledgeable about the tour and was patient to let us explore all the sites. If you’re traveling solo, as a couple or a group, Emo Tours is your answer.
Thank you so much Mazen for an amazing customer service! I will be visiting again for sure with my family.

Great tour, well worth it. Our guide Tonsi was knowledgeable and did a great job of explaining some of the history behind pyramids and the dynasties / kingdoms as well as answering questions of Cairo and the surrounding area. He was very helpful navigating through the sites as well as helping us with setting up a driver for another day of sightseeing.

Tonsi, our guide, and waheed, our drivwr, were amazing! Tonsi showed us the pyramids and taught us a lot about Egyptian history. He also took us to places that we had requested from him like a place for papyrus papers and a place where we can find official Egyptian garments. They never made us feel uneasy and they were genuinely good people. Tonsi also takes amazing pictures!!! I highly recommend them for those who want to a tour of the pyramids.
