Perfect day!!
Nov 2020 • Friends
This trip was absolutely perfect - although it took a bit longer than advertized. You get a much better understanding of the extent of pyramid-building than just visiting the Giza plateau. The Saqqara area is amazing and you could spend hours just there. But Mohammad was excellent in showing us the important places - and accomodated us in adding a visit to an extra tomb. Entering the two pyramids was also a fantastic experience.

Excellent trip with Amr Samir.
Nov 2019 • Couples
Our guide Amr greeted us at our hotel and we headed out towards Memphis.
On the way we stopped off and Amr bought us a traditional Flafal wrap and delicious sugar drink which we wouldn't have experienced if we were on our own.
We talked the whole drive out to Memphis and the first stepped pyramid about Ancient Egypt and Amr was both extremely knowledgeable and humorous.
The three sites were well worth a visit and having a one to one guide and driver invaluable.
Needless to say the lasting memories of Cairo are not just the amazing wonders that you see but the people that you meet. The trip wouldn't have been as memorable without Amr, so much so that we booked another trip to the pyramids, through Emo tours and had Amr as our guide.
I can't recommend Emo tours and Amr highly enough for two seemless days in Cairo.

Inside the Red and Bent Pyramids
Nov 2019
Having a free day in Cairo I signed up for a private tour of Memphis, and the Dahshur Pyramids. Memphis was remarkable, but the highlight was actually going inside the Red Pyramid and Bent Pyramid. Plan on doing some step climbing to reach the entrances and climbing down a steep ramp like a ladder inside the pyramids. You will be amazed!!! One hint, if the tour guide offers to take you to see how they weave rugs or make paper, DECLINE the offer. You will experience high pressure sales to buy their product, unless you are looking for an Egyptian rug or papaya paper.

Half Day Tour to Memphis Saqqara and Dahshur Pyramids

On my recent trip to Egypt, I began my journey with EMO tours out of Cairo. I highly recommend this company for the professional personal service they provided. My tour guide was Mr. Ahmed Mohsen and personal driver. He arrived promptly at my hotel and we began our journey to the Saquarra and Dahshur pyramids. Unlike crowed bus tours, Ahmed began pointing all of the history and culture as we drove through the city of Cairo. Driving through the countryside you get a flavor of how ordinary Egyptian live and work outside of the big city. It may appear primitive because they have lots of dirt roads and trash is visible everywhere, but you are traveling through thousands of years of Egyptian life. Seeing makeshift farm vehicles made out of boxes and pulled by strange looking horses and camels makes you feel fortunate to drive a car. It was pointed out that 40 % of the agriculture workers never go to school. Hiring workers is too expensive, so families stay and work the land just like their ancestors.
As we approached Saqqara, my first view of the pyramids looked like a testing ground for engineers. Ahmed pointed out that the Step pyramids was the oldest one in the world built by the Pharaoh Djoser well before the Giza pyramids. I must say I never researched these pyramids, so it was a pleasant surprise to learn something new about Ancient Egypt. Ahmed explained the history of this complex and surroundings. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed inside for safety reasons. You can visit a small underground chapel of King Unas. I must warn you that the guides for taking a picture inside are very aggressive. The pathway into the chamber is very low, and I had to stop the guide from pulling me into the ceiling. Before taking pictures, they want money for their services which is common through Egypt.
The next stop in the Saqqara complex was a visit to the Tomb of Mereruka. Now, this tomb has much higher ceiling to walk through. This was my first glimpse of Egyptian hieroglyphics from ancient Egypt. You can’t imagine seeing such art work that has lasted for thousands of years. Lots of photo ops in this tomb. There are more hieroglyphic in this tomb than the great pyramids of Giza. Just unbelievable and I am glad that the Egyptian government is doing everything to preserve their culture for future generations.

After the Step pyramid, our next stop was the Bent pyramid which was another attempt at arriving at the correct shape of building pyramids I believe the construction started out at 54 degrees and was changed to 43 degrees and that how it got its name. The Bent Pyramid was the second pyramid built under the Old Kingdom Pharaoh Sneferu.
The Red Pyramid, also called the North Pyramid, is the largest of the three major pyramids ... The Red Pyramid was the third pyramid built by Old Kingdom Pharaoh Sneferu, and is located north of the Bent .pyramid. And if you look closely, the Red pyramid was the blueprint for the Giza pyramids, in my opinion. You can go into the Red pyramid through a long declining ramp to the bottom and see the burial chamber, but I didn’t go because my head was still hurting from the narrow chapel visit at Saqqara.
The first pyramid built by Pharaoh Sneferu, was called Meidum, but I didn’t see it anywhere. Also, look off in the distance or ask your tour guide point out another unknown pyramid called the Black pyramid.
I recommend doing research on these pyramids before going on this tour.
Our next stop was to the Memphis open air museum. , once the capital of Old Kingdom Egypt... That’s the beauty of traveling to other countries and learning about their history and culture. Now I know where the name of Memphis Tennessee came from and made famous by Elvis Presley.
It wasn’t very far from Saqqara and my tour guide continued to provide me with more Egyptian history as we drove through the local areas. Mr. Mohsen is very knowledgeable in Egyptian culture. If you go with EMO Tours, try to get him as a guide...There is a separate building for a gigantic statue of Ramesses II lying on his back. From the pictures, it is well over 30 feet. There are numerous pieces of archeological finding throughout the complex. A highlight is an alabaster statue of a sphinx, which is considered the second largest one found. You can walk around and have a close look at these ancient findings without being hassled by vendors on your visit. The vendors are located in a special location for you to do some shopping. Another recommendation is to shop around for these side trips because they are a lot more reasonable and personal than your tour company prices.

Ahmed Hamed , best tour experience
We visited Sakkara, Dashur and Memphis.
Ahmed was very knowledgeable , informative and professional.
He was very patient when we stayed a little longer at some stops. He took his time to explain things to us. We never felt rushed
The ride was very comfortable and smooth.
We really enjoyed the snacks he bought for us. And really appreciated him answering all the questions we had.
We would highly recommend Emo Tours and especially Ahmed Hamed. Ask for him when booking your tour.

Wonderful morning
Dec 2019
I was picked up at my hotel, in fact my guide and driver were earier than the time specified. My guide was very knowledgable and interesting, also extremely proud (rightly so) of his country. He spent the drive to Dahshur telling me the facts and history, which was great as it meant that I could enjoy taking photos and seeing the sights tranquily especially as most of the time there were no other tourists. The museum is small but interesting. I paid extra to go into another tomb in Saqqara, which was worth every penny, as still lots of artwork and colours to be seen. A highly recommendable tour.

Memphis and Dahshur Countryside Photography Excursion w/personal driver (no tour)
Dec 2019
Had a delightful early morning 6am-10am drive out to the Memphis and Dahshur area countryside. It was sooo picturesque--date palm groves, and green, green, green right in the edge of the desert,
Mohammed Haiba was my driver and though he didn't speak a lick of English, he was *very* adept at using his Google translate, and we communicated surprisingly well that way. He stopped wherever/whenever I wanted, and quickly caught on to what I was looking for, and helped spot fun pics from wildlife to quaint donkey shots. He walked with me out in fields, "charmed" the local farmers and helped me get the photos I was looking for. 6am was maybe 40 minutes too early for good light (December 26), but it wasn't long till we had beautiful light.
A fun, early morning photo run with a private driver, Mohammed Haiba.

Very knowledgeable guide; great to enter less crowded pyramids
Nov 2019
Housem was our guide, and his knowledge of Egypt was amazing. We were given sufficient time at each stop for our own explorations and photos.

It was great to visit pyramids that receive less tourists than the Giza ones. Also, it was simpler to go inside these.

I enjoyed the length of the tour and the things we were able to see. I feel that full day tours would be a bit of information overload, but the half day tour was great.

As always with Emo tours, our tour guide was ready prior to the scheduled start time.

I took 3 Emo tours in Egypt, and all were like this - I can certainly recommend them as a tour operator
