- Daniel W0 contributionsGood Clean Soviet FunThere are lots of Soviet themed tours offered around Tbilisi but this is the only one I could find specifically on Soviet Mosaics, and I'm glad I did. Our guide David was really decent, he was insightful, had a great sense of humour, spoke perfect English, and best of all had a never ending collection of interesting and funny anecdotes from Soviet times past. I'm fairly certain we wouldn't have been able to find many of the mosaics David showed us on our own, even with a hire car some of the locations were just too obscure, so all in all, a really worthwhile trip. If you're reading this I'd encourage you to give it a go.Written April 29, 2022
- IonaM1030 contributionsA fantastic way to see the fading Soviet history or GeorgiaI did both the mosaic and architecture tours as well as the day in Tskltubo and Chiatura. David was thoughtful, kind, knowledgeable and just a really nice person to spend time with. His stories about the past and his genuine interest in Soviet architecture/mosaics are invaluable. He has good local contacts and so we were able to go inside some buildings which are otherwise closed to visitors. I would highly recommend these trips if you are at all interested in the Soviet period.Written April 25, 2022
- Mik3_De0 contributionsA fascinating journey through 20th century history and pop art.AMAZING tour. David was an excellent guide. Definitely worth it for someone looking for that next level off the main tourism route. They know of and have access to some pretty incredible locations. Very highly and enthusiastically recommended!Written April 24, 2022
- RAF100 contributionsEssential Tour in Tbilisi! For anyone interested in the social, political and cultural history of Tbilisi then this is an essential tour. It is a great opportunity to depart from the well-worn typical tourist trail and learn about the rich and fascinating history of Georgia through visiting several buildings and sculptures throughout the city. Thank you to David for arranging a tailored tour that accommodated my wife and young children (7 and 4) and for engaging us all with your personable manner and expert knowledge. This is a tour that will live long in our collective memories. We will certainly be back to Georgia!Written January 4, 2020
- aachou0 contributionsLearn in a Lada!We had a lovely day with David, who shared his love of modern Georgian history, architecture, and culture. He drove us around in his bright orange Soviet-era Lada and took us well off the beaten path to explore Soviet architecture and how buildings are used today. David was engaging, informative, and creative while showing us his city. Highly recommended!Written October 31, 2019
- Janna W0 contributionsGreat Mosaics and entertaining GuideWe had a great tour with lots of interesting Information, as well as good jokes and great lunch! We loved the Mosaics and the drive around Tbilisi in the Lada! We totally recommend the tour!Written September 15, 2019
- RedHookGirl0 contributionsExcellent tour of Soviet TbilisiI agree with all of the other positive reviews. This is more than an architectural tour. It's a cultural experience weaving in David's family history during Soviet times. David is an engaging guide ... one of the highlights of my trip to Georgia.Written August 27, 2019
- 572caseyp0 contributionsThe “anti-tour” tourI don’t go on tours. But I was lured into it at first reading of what it is and where it goes. You have 2 options to choose. We went with the brutalist architecture and it was without regrets! David’s enthusiasm and knowledge zeroed me in right away and I was blown away.Written May 26, 2019

David was a wonderful guide to Tbilisi's history and architecture. He is a great story teller and was able to capture Georgia's rich and colorful past, its problematic relationship with its giant neighbor to the north and its amazing architectural features. He was able to help us to see his city in a wonderful new light. Highly recommended!

I went on the Concrete Giants tour and it was brilliant: showed me a whole new side of Tbilisi thanks to a great choice of sites and a very knowledgeable guide, David, who shared a lot of insight about the period of Soviet occupation.

I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic this tour was! David was both knowledgeable and very interesting in his delivery of the sites. We got a thorough understanding of life in Tbilisi during the Soviet times up to current day. He took us to the Chronicles of Georgia which was amazing as well as Soviet era apartments where we went inside the various apartments. We ended up having David stay with us the whole day so he could take us to stores with Georgian made goods. Don't miss this tour when visiting Tbilisi!

My friend Sue and I took the Concrete Giants tour last week. It was wonderful, we met David in his orange Lada and he took us to various Soviet buildings in the city. He has amazing knowledge and is a highly engaging guide. Some of the structures we visited, e.g. The Chronicles of Georgia, which is seriously impressive, had very few other tourists on site so we had the place virtually to ourselves. It was also interesting to have the opportunity to visit a typical Soviet era apartment block and go inside. I would definitely recommend this tour when visiting Tbilisi!

We were curious about everything and our guide David was knowledgeable and patient to answer all of our questions. We learnt so much about both the history and current situation of this incredible city full of unique architectures.

As a solo traveller who loathes large format whistlestop excusions I came to Tbilisi desperate to find a guide/ small group tour that would uncover a more complicated and nuanced side of the city. As an urbanist and lover of history, I was looking to learn more about the imprint communism left on the built environment in Georgia and how ideology influenced and was disseminated by design. And I was hoping to find a way to do this without blowing my budget on a bespoke private itinerary. Enter David and Homosoviet tours who went out of his way to accommodate my travel schedule. David's passion for interrogating Soviet era design and culture is palpable and we spent 5 hours conversing about a whole myriad of subjects from the IDPs to the role of the Church in today's society all behind the backdrop of awe-inspiring architecture across Tbilisi. David is incredibly afflable and professional which is a hard balance to strike and is generous enough to share family history and his own political observations with inquiring guests. I came out of the tour having learned so much and having even more questions about this fascinating country and the region at large. I highly recommend for those interested in architecture, urban planning, design and just social history writ large from a studied local perspective. Thank you, David!

I am so grateful to David for his historical knowledge, enthousiam, energy and generosity!
We first spent a day with him around Tbilisi, were so impressed that we booked a second day to Chiatura. This was again amazing. All these places that we would never have discovered by ourselves.
A visit with David will make you see Georgia with different eyes!

We can only confirm what others have said before, David is an amazing person and guide. He knows so much about the Georgian history, also linked to his own family. He has a great sense of humor and is extremely generous. He showed us places we would never have discovered by ourselves like insides of old Soviet buildings. We will definitely book another tour with him !!!

We did both the "Insiders" and "Concrete Giants" tours in Tbilisi. Alexander, our guide for the Insiders tour, was very knowledgable about the history of Tbilisi. He was very flexible and added some additional sights to the tour, combining the insiders tour with a tour of the old town and other parts of town. We went to a great restaurant for lunch, where we sampled authentic Georgian food. David, our guide for the Concrete Giants tour, was fantastic - one of the best guides I've ever had. We learned so much about Tbilisi during the Soviet era, and his life experience - and that of his parents and grandparents - was truly educational. On this tour, we visited Soviet monuments and residences and saw interesting mosaics and went to other sights off the beaten path, and ended our morning tour with lunch at a restaurant that, I'm sure, doesn't see many tourists. The food was amazing! We loved our tour - and David's company - so much, we kept him on for the afternoon and did a totally bespoke tour, visiting Georgian fashion designers and local shops.

The concrete giants tour was great. We really enjoyed zipping around Tblisi is David's orange Lada. He was super informative, packed with interesting tidbits about Tblisi and soviet times. I would highly recommend if you are at all curious about the Soviet Union and peeling back the iron curtain.
