          Best travel company in Colombia
My husband and I have nothing, but the best to say about Edgar and his team. When we arrived in Bogotá, it was stressful the moment we landed. The reason for this, we were receiving our dog, Buster (11.5 years old), via Amsterdam. Edgar sent German (who is his right hand man in Bogotá), German went above and beyond any service we expected. German waited multiple hours with me and our luggage, while my husband was frantically running around customs department trying to get Buster. Then, after resting in Bogotá for a week, German was the man again, who drove us to Medellin because we did not want to fly with Buster. German was so nice to Buster and stopped for him to walk, pee and eat as often as we wanted! German was not worried about time at all, he was concerned with ours and Buster’s comfort. Thank you so much. We appreciate all that was done! Highly recommend this company! A+++

Excellent overview of Bogota in one short day
Thanks to a very nice, knowledgeable guide (Edgar) I got a chance to make the best of my one short full day in Bogota. I got a nice overview of the many city neighborhoods, wonderful museums and some historical and cultural knowledge along the way. Since there was a long unfortunate wait for Monserrate , he kindly drove me to the north of the city to a nice viewpoint so I can get a sense of Bogota's vast expanse. I highly recommend this tour and wish I get the chance to visit this city again.

          Great Tour, Great Value
I am so glad I got to have this tour with Edgar. Edgar is a veteran guide with great knowledge and ability to bring the views of Bogota that one cannot get in regular tours. Different neighborhoods, special houses, unique food and great mood. Thank you Edgar for such a great time!

          Outstanding
We only had a few days in Bogota and Explora Bogota Day tours was recommended to me. My wife checks the ratings on everything and immediately began checking the company out and was very pleased with what she found. In short, Edgar was spectacular. Knowledgeable, patient, polite, entertaining and a joy to be around. I recommend both he and his company without hesitation.

          Best layover. Ever.
I would do this tour again. When I return I will book other tours with them as well. I convinced my friend to spend a long weekend with me in Medellin. The long layover on a Sunday made my job difficult. So I looked into different tour options. Edgar was prompt with his reply to my email, so he earned my initial business. But German took us on such a great tour that he has earned my future business. Our tour started early, since our flight arrived before 7am. German took us to Monserrat (I am sure I did not spell that correctly) and since it was so early it was not too crowded. After the breathtaking views, we went for a traditional Colombian breakfast. Yum! We walked off all of that food by exploring La Candalaria and visiting a couple of museums. We got back to the airport right on time....we even had time to shop the duty free. If you are thinking about doing a layover tour in bogota, or any kind of tour- ask Edgar!! You cannot beat the price or the quality!!

          EDGAR IS THE BEST
If you are thinking of booking a tour while in Bogota, do it and do it with Edgar! We were in Bogota at the end of April for an 8 hour layover between flights and wanted to visit a bit of the city while we had the short opportunity. Edgar's reviews we excellent so we decided to contact him. He was exceptional!! His communications were prompt and helpful. Not knowing what we could achieve in the time that we had, Edgar suggested an itinerary that would work. He was at the airpiort at 7am as promised and returned us in perfect time to catch our flight out again. He went to much extra effort to make sure that we had exactly the experience we were looking for and more. We wanted to visit a coffee roastery while we were there and Edgar took it upon himself to visit different businesses before we arrived to select the best one for our interests. We also had a tour of the La Candelaria area and visited the Museum of Gold. Edgar was very knowledgable with fascinating stories of the history and knew which highlights of the Museum to show us in the amount of time we had there. Bogota was cosmopolitan and lovely and Edgar was professional, friendly, knowledgable and a joy to spend time with! He gave us so much value for the very fair cost of the tour. Be sure to book Edgar and be sure to donate extra money to his animal shelter where he devotes a house and his time to care for stray animals.

          Best choice
I found this guide here and wow.. The day I had with Edgar was one of the best ever.. So look no further if you want the best experience in Bogota. I had almost 10 hours layover and Edgar took care of me and showed me the heartbeat of this wonderful city. He was right on time, had excellent planning, and truly provided the best explanations everywhere. The day turned out amazing in spite of raining forecasts! Better ask Edgar before going if you have any concerns. In the end you will be satisfied like I was. Thanks for everything!

          Amazing Tour
I had a long layover from Brazil back to the states and I reached out to Edgar for a five hour city tour. The tour was wonderful. Bogota gets a bad reputation. From Monsterrate, to the Museo del Oro to the centuries of varying architecture, this tour disabused those notions. Edgar is fluent in English, extremely knowledgeable and clearly known (as many security guards or other guides said hello). Drop what you are doing and go learn the mysteries and wonders of Bogota, with Edgar as your guide!

          Edgar is your man
I had only a couple of hours to discover the heart of Bogotà, and I reached out to Edgar through this very page on TripAdvisor. Fantastic, amazing, no other words. He knows the city, the country but more importantly he is an open book when it comes to history of Colombia and other surrounding countries. In a few hours, I dived into the past, through endless anecdotes, stories and enjoyable food. Many thanks!

          Wonderful layover tour of Bogota
My fiance and I had a 10 hour layover in Bogota en route to Peru so we contacted Edgar and arranged a tour of the city. It was raining slightly when he picked us up at the airport and he very nicely brought some umbrellas. We had been up very late the night before and I think Edgar could tell we were tired so we started the tour with a very good lunch in the Museo del Oro restaurant. (Note: Colombia in general is not the easiest place for vegetarians.) We then toured the museum and headed to the teleferico to Mont Monserrate. The view is amazing!!! After coming back down, Edgar showed us Plaza Bolivar and the Botero Museum and walked around the city in the evening before being taken back to the airport 2 hours before our flight. The tour was fun and informative and included much more than we would have logistically been able to get to on our own. Thanks again for a great day!

Edga and Carlos were excellent - we did the full day Bogota tour and the Salt Cathedral tour. Both were excellent - timely, knowledgeable, flexible. Would highly recommend them with no hesitation. Wish them all the best.

Edgar is a true gem! He gave 100% to making my tour enlightening and fun. He was prompt and courteous and very adept at handling the heavy traffic by going off the beaten path on many occasions. I highly recommend Edgar's services.

          Just must do
Edgar was absolutely reliable and charming. He met us at Bogota airport when we had a few spare hours between flights. He took us round all the sites up to Montserrat and to a fun restaurant. Just waited patiently and then returned us to the airport. Perfect!

          Salt Cathedral & city Tour
First of all apologize Edgar for this late review you should have deserved it much earlier. A) 3 mails and puncutally on the spot Edgar picked me up at the Airport B) he showed me the Salt Cathedral, Montserrat the gold museum and all over Bogota from 8am till 5pm. C) The best for me however was the conversation with Edgar, about politics, education, history etc. In this one day I learned a lot about this country, its people and problems/benefits I highly recommend to book the tour with him, I have done so from Germany without knowing him just relied on the references from tripadvisor and it was a lucky shot. Thanks Edgar!

          Nice overlook
It is a great place to overlook the city of Bogotá, it has an amazing church and some hand made stuff in the path. Its a good place to spend 2 hours or maybe 3 if you go and visit one of the 2 good restaurants.

Edgar was a perfect tour guide who shared with us so much about the city. We could visit the major highlights of the city as well as what we asked additionally in one day which was very productive. Rated as very good not excellent is because the information given initially on the website was different from what the tour was actually was. It was 8hour tour instead of 4, we spent more than 20mins at Museo de Oro etc. It wasn't a big deal and again the tour was amazing but it would've been improved.

My friend and I traveled to Bogota and only had about 8 hours to see the city. I sent an e-mail with specific requests for hotel pickup, Full day city tour, and drop off at the airport. Communication was great via e-mail. Edgar was our guide for the day. He was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor.
Our guide had a great day planned for us, including driving in a private car through various neighborhoods with commentary, a visit to Monserrate on the funicular, Gold Museum, walking tour of La Candelaria, Museo de Botero, Plaza de Bolivar, etc. The tours are very flexible and customizable, so if you have specific interests, let them know. We are foodies, so we ended up visiting a few of the best cafes and restaurants to try hot chocolate, tamales, pastries, and ajiaco (delicious soup). We highly recommend Explora Day Tours and hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!

I visited Bogota from November 2nd-5th and contacted Edgar a few days before (via email) to ask questions and schedule my full day tour for November 3rd. I was very impressed by the information he provided and his prompt responses. He gave me great tour recommendations and I decided to go with the Salt Cathedral and Bogota city tour with pick-up at 9am from my hotel.

Edgar came to my hotel promptly at 9am and we were on our way to visit the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira. Edgar was extremely personable and has an excellent command of English (in addition to Spanish, German, and Portuguese). As we traveled, he answered numerous questions and pointed out various landmarks throughout the countryside so I could take pictures as we passed.

At the Salt Cathedral, it was great to have a personal guide. Edgar's knowledge of the history and geology of the salt mine was very informative and his ability to explain each artistic station was insightful. He even gave me excellent photography suggestions and his rapport with the staff gained me a WiFi connection 600ft underground so that I could upload pictures and post to social media. Afterwards, we took a quick tour of Zipaquira before driving back to Bogota.

In Bogota, we took a driving tour through various neighborhoods of the city as we made our way to Cerro de Monserrat. In a city of nearly 9 million people, with countless roads, and insane traffic, Edgar definitely knows his way around. The entire time, Edgar presented historical facts about each area and allowed me to take plenty of pictures of the beautiful architecture, art, and people throughout the bustling city.

Edgar secured our mountain trolley transportation at Cerro de Monserrat and we made our way up the mountain. The views of Bogota were spectacular as we ascended and the modern city shrunk below us. The entire area was gorgeous and I appreciated the historical context Edgar provided. We ended our Monserrat tour with a delicious late lunch overlooking the city at the well regarded Casa San Isidro.

After a full day, Edgar dropped me off at my hotel around 6pm. I explained that I had such an amazing day and greatly appreciated his services. He told me that the next day was his day off, but if I wanted, he would be willing to take me for a walking tour in the city. I eagerly accepted and we agreed to meet at the Gold Museum at 2pm.

The next day, Edgar and I met as agreed and proceeded with the Gold Museum Tour. His comprehension regarding the history, artifacts, and implementations of ancient rites were very enlightening and a few stragglers couldn't resist following my personal tour. From there, we walked through the city streets through parks and colleges to tour Bolivar Square, where we witnessed a military parade, and then to the Presidential Palace. Afterwards, we walked to several museums, including the Botero Museum. Every aspect of the day was filled with wonderful Colombian culture and amazing photo opportunities. The tour ended with Edgar dropping me off at my hotel.

I am so glad that I researched tour companies and went with Edgar. In all of my travels (US and abroad), I have never met someone so personable, respectable, knowledgeable, articulate, worldly, connected, and generous. This man knows everyone and was highly regarded by people everywhere we went. I felt completely safe and genuinely had an amazing time. Not only did I have a phenomenal guide, but I made a friend for life. Edgar, you got my number whenever you visit Chicago and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I come back next year. Thank you, Brother!

First of all, this is not a review on quality of tours itself. We have booked a city tour, salt cathedral and Guatavita lagoon a few weeks before we travelled to Bogota. Edgar was very efficient in replying my emails. On the day, we waited for half an hour but he didn't show up. Our hotel staff called him on our behalf and I talked to him on the phone as well. He said he was at the doctors and would be at the hotel in one hour. But our hotel staff who spoke to him in Spanish first said the tour guide sounded like he didn't remember our names or the tour itself. I guess a simple phone call to our hotel saying he would be late or cannot make it would have been helpful. We were very disappointed since all the reviewers said great things about this company. We ended up organising tours through our hotel which were half the price.

My brother and I just returned from a 9 day trip to Columbia. We had one long day in Bogota prior to a departure for home the following day. We booked a "City Tour" and Zipaquirá Village / Salt Mine Cathedral tour. What a wonderful day. We could not have hoped for a better guide than Edgar. He picked us up at the airport at 10:30 a.m. and dropped us at our Hotel at 9:30 p.m. He also recommended a delightful place for dinner and even joined us. A truly wonderful day with an excellent Columbian Guide. Don't miss an opportunity to spend some time with Edgar visiting the heart of Columbia!!!

I contacted Edgar through e-mail and was pleased he answered back right away. We set for a city combo (city tour and catedral de sal). He e-mailed me the fees, which were ok for our small group (4 adults). We had problems with our flight and the day before we were supposed to make the tour I called Edgar and he promptly agreed on postponing the tour. Next day he e-mailed he would be late, which was ok too. When we started the tour we could notice that he is really an expert. But he was definetely in a hurry. We could hardly follow him up around Casa de la Moneda, Botero´s Museum and Museo del Oro. Then we understood why: he would take another couple along to the Cathedral of Salt, so he couldn´t make the tour in our own pace...
At the end of the tour, he charged us 30% more than he had informed in the previous e-mail. Also, he didn´t take us to a souvenir shop, which is part of every city tour I´ve been to. Well, I wouldn´t describe it as a great experience...

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Edgar and his company, Explora Bogota Day Tours. I was a solo female traveler and booked the City Combo tour which was roughly from 0800 to 6:30 pm. Edgar picked me up at the airport and when the tour was done dropped be back off at the airport so everything was hassle free! He is extremely knowledgeable about the city and gives the most interesting facts. To be honest, it felt like I was being shown the city by a friend, not a tour guide. I felt completely safe the entire time as well. I will hold the most fond memories of my day in Bogota with Edgar and would not hesitate to book tours through his company again when I return to Colombia. Look no further than this company, the prices are worth every single

Just spent the last day and a half touring Bogota/Monseratte with Edgar. He is a great guide, loves the city and did a great job of explaining the context and history of all the places we visited. I very highly recommend and look forward to another visit in the future.

My mother and I visited Bogota. Since we had limited time and we were only staying one day. we decided to do the City Combo Tour to get everything in. We are glad we did! We were picked up by Herman, fifteen minutes early at our Hotel. Herman was an excellent guide. He was full of knowledge about every aspect of the city, historical, political, economics. etc...We were lucky to have Herman as our guide. You will be amazed of the Salt Cathedral Tour, you have to see this and its right outside of Bogota. Well our tour lasted about ten hours and we never felt rushed through it. I highly recommend this tour if you have limited time in Bogota.

We were picked up promptly by Juan Carlos at our hotel for our City Combo tour. It was a Saturday, so traffic leaving Bogota was cumbersome. However, Juan Carlos was sure to point out all of the interesting sites along the way to keep the ride interesting. The Salt Cathedrals were great- Juan Carlos knows everything about them and it was great not have to figure out how to buy tickets and wait for a group tour guide there. There are 14 sections of the cathedral, so doing the private tour enables you to move at your own pace through this. We are not Catholic, so much of the symbolism was lost on us, so I would not have wanted to be in a long, group tour that went over every tiny detail. If you want this detail, Juan Carlos can surely provide it.

Traffic was bad again on the way back to the city. If this would bother you, I suggest booking a weekday tour or leaving earlier. Juan Carlos drove us to Monserrate and took the cable car up with us, detailing the history and interesting parts of the city. We were also happy to have Juan Carlos in the Candelaria, as it's a lot to see and a lot of people everywhere. It was elections so many of the plazas were blocked off. You can tell Juan Carlos is so passionate about his job and city, as he even talked some of the people blocking off the area to let us by for a quick peek.

The City-Combo tour is definitely long and all day. A great way to spend the day if you only have a short time in Bogota. If you don't like car rides or can't do a whole day of touring- I recommend you split seeing all of these sites into two days. Surprisingly, it's not a ton of walking, as you drive everywhere, so it's a good tour for all ages and fitness levels.
