About 1 hour 45 minutes drive by moto from where I was staying in Bogotá through the winding mountain roads brings you to this amazing serene place. There is a ticket both and parking at the base of a glamping site that allows you entrance into the hike to see both waterfall. The cheapest ticket was 35000COP and it included a little bag with some snacks, a water bottle, a rain poncho, and toliet paper. You could buy rappeling package that included lunch for 85000COP, but my friend and I just wanted to do the 4km hike. The hike is ranked as medium difficulty, and I would agree. The first waterfall, el Chiflon, I would rank as easy and a short distance from the ticker both to reach. You pass by a restaurant and the path is like a paved rock. But la Chorrera, the tall one, ooff, that is medium difficulty but bare in mind the altitude - you're higher than Bogotá and if you're from a city like me that is only like 100m above seal level, the hike feels harder. According to my smart watch, my heartbeat never went under 125bpm even sitting at rest and would stay at 163bpm average, topping at 179bpm. I am in decent shape for an American millennial, but that didn't mean I wasn't feeling the hike as cardio even when going at a slow pace. My recommendations for preparation: bring protein bars and a hydration pack; wear/bring a device that can track blood oxygen levels and heart bpm; wear boots with good tread/traction. As for weather/climate, I wore stretchy jeans and a long-sleeved polyester/spandex bodysuit with waterproof Chaco boots and merino wool socks. I left my jacket in the moto because I get warm when I workout (I typically box in a bra and leggings) but my friend wore his rain jacket, sweater, jeans, and hiking boots. You will get dirty because the path is always damp and muddy so avoid white or hard to clean fabrics. Sunglasses and a hat can be nice as some areas are not in forest cover, but the majority of the hike seemed to be in forest cover. What I liked most about this hike was you could see the tall casacda la Chorrera almost the entire time when you came to a clearing. It was great so you always knew what you were aiming for, but also it meant that is you needed to head back early you could because you did see what you came to see. The 4km took my friend and I 2.5 hours, but we diverted to the Monkey cave and the other paths along the way.

We had a lovely experience on this trip, and felt it was an excellent choice for our last full day in the Bogotá area. We loved Andrés, who is amazing knowledgeable, thoughtful, and kind. He took such great care of us on our hike and the following meal. The stunning drive into the Andes, on the edge of the sprawling metropolis, transports you to what feels like a world away. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the natural scenery of Cundinamarca. The hike is strenuous, but does not take more skill than a medium-level hike at any given national park in North America. Weekdays are recommended to avoid the local crowds (which we were told can be outrageous on Sundays). A Friday in March, proved perfect for few people, great cool temperatures, and a leisurely pace.

This was an excellent tour and hike. Our guide (I believe his name is Felipe) spoke great English and Spanish. He explained everything and gave pointed out lots of history and other fun facts during the hike. We got local snacks halfway up the mountain, and they were delicious! He also had a great sense of humor and our trip to Bogota was so much more enjoyable having done this hike.

We had no worries about safety. I recommend bringing a second layer in case it gets cold, and shoes you don't mind getting muddy.

I am embarassed by the amount of time that's passed (years) BUT the experience was so wonderful...who cares!! My friends and I had a wonderful time celebrating my 37th birthday. The guide was amazing, the hike is not easy (I'm pretty active) but well worth the effort, the views and waterfalls were so beautiful, and the experience is one I cherish!

This was a great trip, just a short distance away from Bogota, but it felt like a hundred km away. We were picked up our driver and our fantastic guide Juan who provided us with wonderful information about Bogota, graffiti artists, music and life in Colombia as we left the city and headed to the waterfalls. The countryside was stunning, drifting in and out of cloud forests and arriving at the waterfalls for a great hike, that many here have described. Wear a good pair of shoes/boots and the trail can be slippery, but your efforts will be well rewarded. Don't miss this trip

Hi Paul, Thank you very much for your comments. We are glad you enjoyed your visit to La Chorrera, which is one of our favorite tours. The amazing nature and vegetation found near Bogotá, with such a beautiful waterfall, is unique. We apologize for the inconvenience with the snack, Emilio forgot to offer it to you. Traveled on this hike with my family. It was definitely a challenging hike but so enjoyable in so many ways. First of all, we stopped at a little restaurant run by a Cuban man (SO warm and welcoming) offered us one Cuban dish and Mojitos and danced for us. :) Perfect start to the hike. There is one small waterfall in the beginning and a longer hike to the tallest waterfall in Colombia. The smaller waterfall you can actually walk behind and get some great photos with, the taller waterfall didn't have as much water. The hike itself was very hilly up and down, but with lots of breaks, it was worth it. Also note - there is not a place to swim in the waterfalls so don't bother bringing a bathing suit.

Definitely a MUST-do outside Bogota. This hike was excellent! Even with 60 year old parents and 5 and 3 year old nieces!

Hi Jodi, Thank you very much for your comments. We totally agree with you, La Chorrera is an amazing place to visit and get away from the city's noise and stress. We must be careful when doing the hike because some parts of the trail can be a bit difficult, specially when traveling with older adults and kids. However, it is a nice plan to share with friends and family. We hope you visit us again soon! Kind regards, Paula Duarte

We had Alejandro as our guide and he was great!! He knows a lot of interesting facts about Bogota and he's personable and nice on the 1 hour drive to Choachi. The hike was beautiful... it takes a couple hours to get to the big waterfall, but the scenery on the way up is beautiful and walking around the countryside is fun and you will likely pick up a couple dogs along the way! I loved Alejandro and thank him for such a wonderful time!!

Things to consider before you take this hike:
- It is a very strenuous hike. I don't know if my parents could have done this hike... think about that before booking it.
- Do NOT buy expensive sneakers before the hike and expect them to not get dirty (as I did...) The hike is extremely muddy and wet and your clothing will likely be damp/wet and your shoes WILL get muddy.
