On our first day in La Paz, we had the chance to meet Santusa and Marcello from Viajes Rutas et Recuerdos Travel Agency. They are running a small travel agency in La Paz, calle Aroma.
They are not only English-speaking, but moreover, they were very dedicated to help us organize our journey throughout Bolivia. We very much appreciated their welcoming and warm reception, their professional advice and their reliable service. We can only recommend them!

We did the half-day La Paz on foot tour, which started in El Alto and finished (at our request) in a saltenas cafe (El Hornito) in Sopocachi. It was a fabulous experience. Our guide Lea was great, and since it was just me & my partner, our tour became quite an exclusive one. Lea certainly knows La Paz, she showed us some of her fav haunts (which weren't on the official route). We discussed La Paz, it's history, culture, food, feminism, the (underground) radio channels, society, art, social issues, politics - a bit of everything. We travelled in trufis, micros, and collectivos. It was a great day, made special by the wonderful company and conversation.

We went on the 1/2 day urban trek and it was our favorite activity in la Paz. Our guide was amazing. She was an anthropologist who knew EVERYTHING about Bolivia and la Paz. We learned so much that wasn't in any guide book. She even took us for a Bolivian treat (api y un bunuelo) that we would have never found on our own!

I just finished my full day Urban Trek with Alejandra and didn't want to wait to write this review. It was terrific. The tour shows you so many different parts of La Paz - from El Alto you walk down through the hanging villages on the mountains into La Paz. I tried delicious moco moco fruit! We toured through the many markets and ate a lively lunch. Alejandra made sure to adjust the itinerary a little so that I could experience some of an inter-cultural parade and it was brilliant, a completely different experience. From Calle Jaen to San Miguel, the tour shows you so much more than the tourist traps of Calle Sagarnaga (although you see that too). Alejandra has such a passion for her city and country and taught me about Bolivian history, politics and indigenous cultures. I can't recommend this highly enough.

We took 2 tours with La Paz On Foot. Overall they are a good company and I will emphasis the positives first. The one negative, which I will mention last, is the reason I wouldn't use them again.

Urban Trek of La Paz - a 1/2 day walking tour from El Alto down to the center of La Paz. Our guide was enthusiastic, interesting and made the experience memorable. Snacks are included in the tour and the guide chooses them. Hers were foods that "said" Bolivia and were fun to try.

Lake Titicaca - again we had an interesting, helpful, well-organized guide who we learned a lot about Bolivia from. When we wanted to adjust our itinerary once we reached the Lake she instantly had a great suggestion. (We took a 1/2 day walk from Copacabana through the village of Sampaya , the views of Island of the Sun & Moon were fantastic - I highly recommend this trek). Our driver was also excellent. He drove cautiously over the winding curves and I was even able to relax and enjoy the views.

Now for the one negative. Right before we left on our second tour I questioned one item that was not included in our tour but was included in their website. The answer wasn't that important (I still would have gone on the tour) it was the fact that they never acknowledged my inquiry. Before they received payment I would receive a quick email back. After the trip I included my inquiry on the trip evaluation form and and again after several weeks no response. A professional company acknowledges all inquiries, not just the ones they want.

We had an amazing 1.5 days with Teresa. She met us each day at our hotel and had a unique tour of La Paz, using a combination of public transport, plenty of walking and a car/driver for the sights a bit further away. She was incredibly knowledgeable and knew the city backwards.

It was a great way to visit to city, feel safe and do many things we otherwise would never have had the opportunity to do. It was worth every cent.

We did two tours with La Paz on Foot and both were excellent. We did the half day urban trek with Ale, going up to Satellite City in El Alto in a truffi, walking part of the way down, and then getting a micro (bus) to the market area. We also did the murals tour with Gabriel, making our way from San Pedro to the Sopocachi area. Both guides spoke great English, and both were happy to share their points of view on politics, history, and current events. Both also gave very good practical advice about the city. Another nice thing about these tours is the mid-way snack. Ale bought local treats and fruit, and introduced us to El Ceibo chocolate for which I'll be forever grateful. Gabriel took us for Api and bunuelo - delicious. Really enjoyable.

If you visit La Paz don't miss taking their walking tours. We took a half day tour to El Alto. This is a fascinating neighborhood where the indigenous population of La Paz largely resides, that epitomizes the social structure and class issues in Bolivia. Our English fluent (she was Australian) guide was a community activist working with indigenous women, and was extremely knowledgable about the politics, problems and achievements made by the people of this once-shantytown which has grown into a city of over a million people. Wait until you have acclimatized to the altitude since El Alto is over 14000ft in elevation! If you want to really understand LaPaz and Bolivia this tour was not to be missed

I took a package of 3 tours with LapAz on Foot- Urban Trek, Tiwananku and Titicaca and the gorgeous canyons of Las Animas and Palca. Milenka coordinated all of this well and provided me a detailed package of information. Grace was my guide for 3 whole days and she was absolutely wonderful, very knowledgeable, super freindly!. The neighborhoods of LaPaz are so original and full of character and Bolivian authenticity. This was the case also with the tiwanaku tour, the cute village and Huatajata totora reed boats, all added to the original experience!. The hike through Palca was awesome- what a place!. Overall, So happy to recommend this company to anyone looking for some offbeat experience!
