After doing the three day Huayna Potosí trek with Jiwaki I can say that I couldn’t have asked for a better company and group of guides to do this trek with. Jiwaki provided us with gear to supplement the items that we already had to ensure we were fully prepared for the trek, and throughout the lead up to our summit attempt our guides kept us VERY well fed (literally so much food and snacks).

Our guide was Alex and he did an excellent job at ensuring that our pace was steady enough to reach the summit by sunrise, but not too fast that we couldn’t keep up (although when you get close to 6000m/20000ft things get tough no matter the pace). Also noteworthy was that our group of 3-day trekkers had a 100% success rate for the summit which it was clear a lot of the other companies leading treks were not achieving.

Would recommend Jiwaki to anyone looking for a good company to do this trek with at a good price!

Out of our group of 12, only two of us submitted. Whilst the tour company is highly rated here, your experience will be dependent on
1. The weather
2. Your guide
3. Preparation and acclimatisation

This was the case for our group and due to the inconsistent experience, this tour company is not 5 stars. I will give the activity itself a 5. The experience and view is amazing regardless of whether you summit.

You cannot control (1) the weather. We had a terrible snow storm during our ascend. In any other country, the tour will be canceled but this company went ahead, except most of the guides obviously did not want to go up. Our head guide, Johnny was pushing his group to go faster than needed and scaring them about safety. This resulted in most of them giving up on the trip. I was told he also made some sexist comment about the girl slowing the group down which is not true.

My guide EULOGIO LLUSCO was patient and encouraging. I was the least experienced/fit of the group and had a lung infection, but managed to summit because of him - he allowed me to rest, prepared tea, give me lots of information/encouragement and pushed me to continue when I wanted to give up. I recommend asking for him or a good guide if you want to maximize your chance of success.

My other tips are
- do the 3 day tour to give you time to acclimatise and rest
- take diamox (and/or panadol) and chew coca leaves to give you a boost
- pay for a porter to save your energy if you can afford it
- slow and steady wins the race - I took lots of rest and went at a steady pace and ended up overtaking others and getting to the top
- just focus on the moment - your breathing and steps - each step is further than the past

Good luck!

5 star rating for food, shelter, guides, and clothes and climbing gear from the company.

However, the office states that 70% reaches the top. In our case this was 25% (2/8). Personally I reached the top, but my girlfriend didn't. Please understand it is not an easy thing since you not only need to be fit, you need to be fit at this altitude and you need some pace to reach the top by sunset.

Conclusion, if you really know where you are getting yourself into, i would definitely recommend this company! Well organized and experienced!

It’s hard to write a comment to express the mix of emotions that I had. Literally best experience of my life. Couldn’t make it without the help of our guide Reynaldo that had the patience and good words to keep us going . I spent around 6 weeks at around 3400 - 3600m altitude in Cusco and la Paz ,but everything above 5000 is a game changer. I would recommend to take the 3 days and 2 nights .I’ve met people that unfortunately didn’t had the necessary time to do the 2 nights and tried to rush it and they didn’t make it to the top. Take 1-2 altitude pills just in case and always ask advice from your guide before taking them.

We had the best experience with our guide Pedro! We did the 3-day tour to Huayna Potosí. We were in awe by the level of service in the base camp and high camp. Our Guide Pedro was incredibly skilled and experienced! In addition, my husband was interested in learning a few phrases in Aymara. Pedro was patient to teach him some Aymara.
The trip was once-in-a-life-time experience! Our group had a top-notch experience. Thank you Pedro! This company has one of the most spectacular’s high camps. The views were incredible!

All of us made it to the top with the help of our great guides and we had an amazing experience. A special thanks to our great guide, Pedro.
