Amazing tour with Ami from Bein Harim tours!
Feb 2020
Major props to Ami, the English-speaking guide from this tour company! It was a cold, rainy day in Jerusalem, and he was a total trooper, guiding us all around the maze-like streets of Old Jerusalem, all the while maintaining a great sense of humour and providing great insight into the history of this ancient city. I'm extremely glad I took this tour instead of wandering Jerusalem on my own, as I'm sure I would have gotten lost without a tour guide!
I would recommend this tour to anyone who doesn't have much time to spend in Israel, but who still wants to make an informative quick stop in Jerusalem!
-----------

best tour if you only have one day do a tour with Yoav Malachi
Mar 2020
I only had a day of on a business trip and booked as a recommendation from my hotel the tour with Bein Harim. Our tour guide and driver Yoav made it the best tour. He has a profound knowledge of the history of the city combined with good sense of humour at the right time. Thank you for an unforgettable day.

The best full-day tour I've ever enjoyed. Amir was our guide, and he was terrific!
Feb 2020
First, let me say that I enjoyed the full-day in Jerusalem so much that my wife and I are considering coming back, and bringing our children and grandchildren. The only "bad" thing about this trip was that after taking it I felt like it wasn't enough...I wanted to do it again. A single day is simply not enough to truly take in everything there is to see and experience.

I also want to make a strong point about our guide, Amir. He is, by far, the best tour guide I've ever seen...highly knowledgeable, easy to understand, and totally invested in his work. It was obvious that the man loves Israel, and that he wanted to give us more than just a few facts and a day-long experience. He wanted us to have an emotional investment in Israel, and the history of Jerusalem and the Jewish people. If I'm ever able to return and bring my family to tour this area, the "deal-breaker" for me will be my ability to book Amir to guide the tours we want to take.

The tour, itself, was fantastic. I highly recommend it. I won't list the details, because the tour guide already does that.

Be sure to wear appropriate clothing (see their booklet instructions). Wear comfortable walking shoes with ankle support if you have it. You'll be walking pretty long distances going up and down steps and angled hallways that have uneven walking services...these streets and alleys you'll be walking aren't laminate floors, honey...this is hand-laid stone with a drainage gutter down the middle.

Also take:
- a bottle of water (there are places where you can buy drinks, but the tour moves pretty quickly, and you might want a drink sooner than you'll have the opportunity to buy one
- wet wipes
- a small fanny- or backpack
- sunglasses (it's not all covered and indoor)
- if you wear hearing aids I suggest you take them. The tour guide is easy to hear, but there will be a lot of background noise in some of the places you'll stop. If you have trouble hearing, get closer to the guide and tell him/her that you're having trouble hearing. The information is important to the tour...be sure you can hear it
- a hat might be important, especially on a sunny day (wish I had taken one)

Be prepared to see anything. And don't overreact to what you see. You might see disabled beggars (we did), and the image may be troubling.

Be exceedingly careful for your valuables

The bus you travel on is locked when you're out of it. Take only what you need, and leave the rest on the bus

Men, if you carry a walled in your back pocket, button the pocket. Better yet, most the wallet to a fanny-pack, and wear that pack across your waste. Guard against pickpockets. They're there

Don't be aggressive with people, but keep a "solid profile" when walking through congested areas, or you'll have trouble keeping up with your group. Especially in the Muslim section, where it was very crowded, the people walking the opposite way were taking up virtually all the walking space, and if you didn't keep your "shoulder pointed outward" at people coming the opposite direction you were likely to get pushed up against the wall. I'm not suggesting you men put an elbow into someone...just don't allow yourself to look like someone who will be pushed around

It's important that you stay with your group. If you get separated in the Old City it's very difficult to find people. Try to keep up, and if you're having a hard time keeping up, tell your guide. He wants to get the group together, too...it's easier for him.

Don't expect to enjoy cell phone service in the Old City. I use Verizon, and I got no signal at all...nothing in or out, except in the large open area near the west wall.

Again, this trip is very much worth the time and money. I highly recommend it.

Jerusalem in a day
Feb 2020
Based on reviews, I booked this trip for myself and my two teenagers, leaving from Tel Aviv. Well, we almost missed the first bus and that is my fault! Be prepared to meet on time, because they do leave punctually. We then switched to another bus, after about 30 minutes picking up other passengers, and then on to Jerusalem. Our guide was nice and super informative, but, he was very dry in tone. My kids especially appreciate a bit of humour, which goes a long way in keeping attention. While the company was very efficient in changing our date at the last minute for us, we didn't realize the new tour date would include both Spanish and English. I think it is so hard to do a tour in 2 different languages. Our guide fluently switched from both languages, but then this left basically no time for questions, and for me, sometimes it was just hard to follow. If we were not close enough while he spoke, we would miss the English version entirely. In any case, we thoroughly enjoyed this trip, even if we didn't always catch all the details. The points where we stopped were incredibly beautiful, and this was all-over a great first experience traveling to Jerusalem, gleaming some interesting history along the way. I wish we had time to venture off on our own for lunch (the lunch place we had 2 choices either falafel or schwarma, had a great view, but totally catered to boat-loads of tourists). We stopped in a very large touristy shop, and while the prices were decent, it was just not very inspiring, for us. One of the highlights of this tour, and why I would really recommend it because most tours do not include this - after Old Jerusalem, we made a visit to The Holocaust Museum. Wow, what an amazing museum, and if you have the chance, you must go. Also - I must say, the driver of our bus was an exceptional driver.

Thanks so much for this detailed account of your tour with Ben Harim. Eyal sure deserves your feedback for his efforts professionalism and bilingual skills. The arranged lunch stop at a designated restaurant is mainly for the matter of the order of a group. We have to stop at restaurants that can cater for groups, yes tourist groups, so that travelers do not disperse throughout the old city, get lost (very easily) and cause schedule delays. We appreciate you mentioning that the Yad Vashem visit was meaningful and significant for you. 5 stars for your mention of our driver, cautious and with passenger safety as his top priority.
