Long day but worth the trip!
Feb 2020 • Family
Our family (no young children but there's no option for family with no young children) went to join the trip from Jerusalem to Petra and back to Jerusalem. It can be exhausting as you'll be travelling from 3am to 12 midnight but it'll be super worth it. The tour was well-organized and we didn't have any trouble crossing the borders.

Hi ryezelabbyc, thanks for your review. We know this tour is a long and tiring day but, as you said, it is worth it to see Petra if you don't have more time. We are glad everything went smoothly and we hope you'll join us again!

Ideally you’d spend longer in Petra but I had a day from Jerusalem. This tour is an impressive feat of organisation, multiple buses, assisted border crossings, two countries....Really well organised very professional and for me the only time I’ll ever see Petra. Do what the company says... bring USD cash for visa/border fees.. you can’t use credit cards.

I would definitely recommend this tour! We were only in Israel a week and had to see Petra. For us the one day tour was enough and I personally didn’t feel like I needed more time there. Everything was great with our tour. Representatives were present and explained all parts of the process from getting to the border, crossing, the tour, and then getting back over and back to Jerusalem. We were impressed with how seamless it was. Our tour guide in Petra was terrific! Have already told friends they need to do this!!

Everything went fine and in hindsight it is ok but things could have gone differently. The whole operation just seemed off.

We woke up at at 3 am and arrived at the border in Eilat at 7 am. A young man with long hair gave us brief instructions on how to walk across the border. When we started the process, we turned around to ask questions and he had disappeared. We had no instructions about who we were meeting on the other side or how to contact them.

Once we got across, the guide from Tourist Israel/Jordan was no where to be found. We were instructed by border agents to sit on the curb until our tour guide showed up. This took over an hour.

Once he showed up he did not apologize he just said we arrived too early and that he was on time. Once we got through, this man dropped us at the bus and our tour guide through the rest of the day took over.

This part was fine. We drove the 2-3 hours to Petra. Stopped once at a truck stop and did the tour. We came back after dark and did the whole border crossing fiasco again and then we were off to Jerusalem/Tel Aviv again.

The point is the entire trip was just uncomfortable. It is extremely expensive and there is no effort taken to communicate or offer customer service. We should have known our tour guide’s name who would be waiting for us. We should have known what to do if he hadn’t arrived yet. The truth is Tourist Israel does not care and will never see you again. The only way to hold them accountable for poor service is through these reviews.

Advice: Just stay in Eilat and take any bus to Petra then hire a guide on site. Eilat is beautiful and the resorts are supposed to be amazing. Another option would be to stay the night in Wadi Musa (the town next to Petra). There are nice hotels there and tour guides for hire that are much better and cheaper.

There is virtually no reason to do the Tourist Israel One Day trip to Petra.

Hi W2750WWmarkm, thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate and do our best to use it to ensure better experiences for future travelers. We understand that sometimes the border crossing can be tricky, which is why we provide representatives on both sides to make the experience run smoother than doing it alone. We would be happy to look into this incident for you if you email info@touristisrael with your reservation number. We hope you enjoyed your time in Petra, as it is a truly amazing site to see.

Adventure of a lifetime!
Nov 2019
My wife, 8 year old daughter and I just took two incredible, adventurous, back to back trips with Tourist Israel and we were blown away by everything, from the places themselves (of course), as well as the VIP treatment and amazing value! We took the 1 day Petra from Jerusalem immediately followed by the 1 day Cairo 2 hours later. These were trips of a lifetime and expertly planned. For the price, unbelievable tours, facilities, tickets included and extras.

Better yet we’re the Tourist Israel representatives and other folks contracted to lead us. Lais, Yasmine and Julia online (sorry if I’m forgetting anyone) were able to help by phone and from a distance, even with some complicated passport situations on my end, which we got through together. Trager meeting us at passport control provided calm, expertise and good humor, making everyone around happy to be there. And then the guides and drivers! Fatima, our guide in Cairo, is incredible- knowledgeable, smart, fun, colorful, helpful, and knows exactly what visitors need and want to see and learn about for an unforgettable adventure. AND she is a great photographer and knows all the great poses and spots people love to put on their feeds and on the mantles of their homes. Methgal in Jordan is a charming and smart guide, full of information and color. Drivers in Petra and Cairo (Mohammed and Mohammed who drove us from Taba to Cairo and back in 24 hours through Egypt) were amazing and the buses were comfortable and first class. Finally, Magdi, our assigned security detail throughout Egypt was an incredible presence, making us feel like VIPs (he clearly has an amazing background just waiting for a screenwriter to put his story in a movie). All in all, unbelievable trip and we can’t wait to travel with Tourist Israel again.

Horrible communication and extremely long transfers. Would not recommend to a friend
Oct 2019 • Friends
I was really unhappy with the organization of the tour. While we arrived early in the morning at the agreed upon meeting spot I asked the organizer if I needed to pull out money at that time to pay for the crossing fees or if there would be ATMs along the way. She explained there were ATMs along the way and I would be fine "Great!". We then boarded the bus and were chatting with someone else on the tour. At this time the incredibly rude driver (who had explained nothing to us) told us no talking that it was quiet time... This is odd I thought we were the customers...

Later in the day we stopped at a local place to use the restrooms after switching buses (unknown to us). We AGAIN were explained nothing by the bus driver. As a tourist in a foreign country in the middle of nowhere this makes me very nervous and unsettled. Who knows where we are going?

Later in the day we arrive at the border in Eilat and I am told to get my money ready. But wait... there are no ATMs... NO ATMs... and I was told we would be fine. So I had to either pay an arm and a leg to withdrawal money from the border or awkwardly borrow from some random person I didn't even know.

Eventually we cross the border and head to Petra (no complaints there it was great). When we got back however at the border we were forced to wait for everyone to gather on the bus (which was delayed by 30 minutes because the organizer couldn't find these people).

Then another 6-7 hour ride back with no explanation by the drivers. We were left exhausted and highly frustrated by the complete lack of customer service in a place that we were in no way familiar with.

Avoid this tour if possible! Overpriced for an experience that was poorly explained and executed.

Dear Adamrome We truly regret your frustrating experience. I see our Customer Service Manager already reached out to you personally. Further to this, we advise everyone who books any tour to Jordan with us that the very best is to ensure you have the necessary cash with you. This is stipulated on our booking site and on the booking confirmation sent to you. While there are always ATMs "en route", if they do not happen to be located at one of the tour's designated stops, the bus will not divert there; this would cause delays and frustration to the group as a whole. We also of course cannot guarantee any fees or conversions charged at the border as this is under Jordan's jurisdiction. We are glad you enjoyed Petra, it is an unforgettable place! Again, we are sorry for your frustration with the lack of ATMs en route. We hope you might join us again in the future.

Petra trip from Jerusalem
Two of us did the one day trip to Petra from Jerusalem with Tourist Israel. We did all the asking questions, booking and payment electronically by email and web site, which went well. We had a private tour in Jordan, meaning after taking bus from Jerusalem to Jordan border at Eilat, we had a car and driver drive us from border to Petra and we had our own guide in Petra. Getting up at 2 am to be on the bus at 3 am in Jerusalem and getting back at midnight are the most difficult parts. They gave us a pillow, ear plugs, and eye mask for sleeping on the bus, but the roads were not that smooth so sleeping was difficult. Petra itself was incredible. And we got a box lunch. Just be sure to bring water, sun glasses, sun screen, and hat.

Dear 173markd We are glad your tour to Petra was a good one overall. This time of year it can be especially hot but still well worth it, as is the very early wake up at 2am! We hope you got some great photos and that you will join us again soon.

By far the best option for a day trip from Israel to Petra!
Sep 2019
We took the 1-day Petra tour from Jerusalem last month, and it was awesome! Obviously Petra was astounding, but Tourist Israel made the complicated logistics and multiple hand-offs to get from Jerusalem to Petra and back work as smoothly as I can imagine being possible, and I can't imagine doing this without them. They walk you through all the fees, what to do where in customs, and even what to be aware of when negotiating for a donkey ride in Petra. It was smooth and positive experience across the board.

Doing Petra in one day is really exhausting. But if that's the only way you can fit it into your trip (and it was for us), this is absolutely the way to do it and it is definitely worth it!

Israeli tour side was ok...except on the way the tour guide virtually did nothing and rode his skateboard around the bus..on the return leg ...he slept, played games and viewed some episodes on his phone...so I’m not to sure what guidance he was providing. The Jordanian side of things got worse: the guide was more interested in finding rocks that resembled animals than giving us any useful historical data.Secondly, lunch was a combination of rotting fruit, juices that needed refrigeration, and a main lunch item of a chocolate bun of some sorts. Also, we were at Petra for only 3 hours when it was clearly stated that we would spend four hours there.Overall, Petra was great but this tour company was poor.
